  1. The amazing thing today was that Neifi and Macias were a combined 5 for 8.
  2. I like the way Neifi touched himself immediately after hitting that foul. It's almost a reflex with him. I think I'd rather shake hands with Moises Alou than Neifi.
  3. Definitley Prior's last inning. He's at 95 pitches and due up next inning.
  4. I wish Corey were back up, looking at this mess. Defense aside, right now is Corey really that much better of an option than Macias? Offensively Corey is a terrible option now. I don't know why he's being brought back. Not only can he not hit, but he'll create a logjam in the OF that will preclude Murton from getting more than a handful of oppportunities.
  5. Considering that Murton is being passed up in favor of Macias, I can't see him playing much at all if Corey is brought back, which is supposed to happen soon. Murton needs to go.
  6. This lineup does not bode well for Murton. He's probably better off in Iowa.
  7. The confidentiality agreement accomplishes nothing but allowing players to lie about "accidental" ingestion via nutrional supplements. I see no reason why details of violations shouldn't be made public. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/02/AR2005080202101.html
  8. I can't remember if Hendry promised Hollandsworth more playing time or if that was Dusty or if what he was promised was an honest shot at earning the starting job in LF. Does anybody have a link to a quote or something better than my shotty memory? And I think Cedeno's call-ups were out of necessity. Who else on the roster was going to play SS if Neifi got injured? Would you have preferred Hendry to keep Enrique Wilson around? Granted, it was far from the ideal situation for Ronny's development, I'm sure we would all agree that the best thing for Ronny would have been to play everyday no matter where he was, but at least he got to "watch and learn from the veterans". Seriously, though, there has to be some benefit from being in the bigs as a 22-year-old. Maybe he'll be a bit more relaxed and able to perform at his highest level when/if he actually does see the field because he feels like he belongs there. Hendry absolutely should have kept Wilson in Chicago and left Cedeno in Iowa. If Neifi got injured Cedeno could have been called up to Chicago within 24 hrs. Releasing Wilson and calling up Cedeno accomplished nothing but hurting Cedeno's progress. If Neifi's backup was just going to rot on the bench I'd rather have had trash like Wilson do the rotting.
  9. If you aren't under contract you could just sit out a year or play in Japan. If you are under contract you could retire, then stage a comeback a year later. No one is forcing these guys to play, they can walk away from the game anytime they want. Uh, I think you may have missed Swordsman's point. No, I didn't. Re-violating people for the same ingestion of steriods is not even an issue in my opinion. Bottom line is that if a player thinks he has junk floating around in his body that will get him in trouble he should walk away from the game until such time as his body is clean enough to pass a drug test. The number of ingestions is irrelevant.

  11. Since when is playing .500 ball something special? The NL pretty much sucks this year anyway, except for the Braves and Cards.
  12. If Palmeiro used roids a year ago then he perjured himself before Congress.
  13. From the front page of today's Tribune: Looks like a planned leak to counter Palmeiro's BS stories about this being an accident. I wish MLB would just come out on the record with specific details instead of leaking anonymously. Everyone who's been caught so far has claimed it was due to an accident or innocent mistake and the lies will continue until MLB starts issuing public rebuttals. It's embarassing to the sport to have these liars go unchallenged by MLB.
  14. Overall Hendry is good but sometimes he makes obvious mistakes. Both of Ronny Cedeno's callups this year were tragically stupid and a lot of us here knew they would be. Promising Hollandsworth more playing time was really dumb too.
  15. With Lawton and Nomar there are some very solid batting orders available. It would take a real bonehead to come up with a bad one.
  16. Hairston's bat is only useful if he's leading off, which won't happen anymore, and regardless of how good Patterson's defense is, he can't even hit minor league pitching at the moment and his defense won't even come close to making up for that. Patteron's had more success in the majors than Murton, and the league could catch up w/ Murton at any moment. I'm not giving up on Patterson yet. I'm not giving up on Patterson either but I still think it's ridiculous to call him up now and sit Murton.
  17. So who you going to bench for Murton?? Lawton or Burnitz?? I highly doubt Prior, Maddux and Z will appreciate either Burnitz or Lawton butchering plays in cf. A team that fields a subpar defense deserves to fail. Hairston goes to the bench. If he's not at the top of the order there's no reason to use him.
  18. Hairston's bat is only useful if he's leading off, which won't happen anymore, and regardless of how good Patterson's defense is, he can't even hit minor league pitching at the moment and his defense won't even come close to making up for that.
  19. Calling up Corey now is stupid. It's incredible that the organization would bench Murton for a guy who can't even hit AAA pitching right now. Crap like this almost makes me believe the Cubs deserve to fail.
  20. That doesn't surprise me. It sucks but I think we'll have to put up with below average defense to get the best lineup.
  21. Hairston's function was to lead off but Lawton can handle that now so Hairston doesn't have a clear role anymore. The OF ought to be Murton LF Burnitz CF Lawton RF But unfortunately Dusty gets to make the decision. The question now is which is strongest: A) Dusty's innate dislike of rookies B) Dusty's dislike for Hairston C) Dusty's romantic feelings for Holly
  22. Pujols is the main man in St. Louis, but that doesn't mean none of his teammates should make the Hall.
  23. Sure he will, I'm sure Ryno will fly him out there to show him his new plaque. I believe Bonds was tested earlier this year. Can't be positive, but I remember ESPN mentioning something about it. Pun intended?
