  1. Murton's production is fine at a corner because his low price tag lets us spend more elsewhere. There are lots of needs to fill and limited $. If next season is a bust it probably won't be due to Murton playing LF at the league minimum.
  2. I'm really down on Nomar. Relying on him to be next year's starting SS is like relying on Rex Grossman to be next year's starting QB. Another year of Nomar/Neifi at SS will probably not yield results as bad as this year's, but still bad nonetheless. I'd rather go cheap at SS with Cedeno and save money for other purposes. At the very least we'll get good defense from Cedeno.
  3. I just saw the lineup. I think we can officially say Nomar is too banged up to be a major factor in 2005.
  4. If Nomar comes back we need a supersub type guy, even if it means overpaying.
  5. Resiging Nomar wouldn't be so bad, but unfortunately I really think Neifi will be back for 2006. Just the fact that Macias and Neifi have both been on the roster all year shows that the organization highly values these types, and I don't sense any dissatisfaction with Neifi's performance.
  6. If I had a really crappy team like the Royals I'd have movable outfield walls. Defending team rolls one six-sided die when they take the field at the beginning of each inning. If result is 1-2, the walls come in 10 ft. If 3-4, walls stay at standard position. If 5-6, walls move out 10 ft. With lucky dice the Royals could actually win some games. If dice are unlucky, who cares? You were probably going to lose anyway.
  7. We're due for a good troll. This guy wasn't it.
  8. Perez has hit well at Coors would be my guess....along with a lefty on the mound. nefi vs lefties .290......walker vs lefties .368Yeah, but Walker doesn't switch hit, which of course is one of the most valuable skills a hitter can possibly have and far more important than your silly numbers.
  9. Perez has hit well at Coors would be my guess....along with a lefty on the mound. Who hasn't?
  10. Yes, yes you could. Name some better back-up SS in MLB. Please back it up with stats. You may think Cedeno could perform better than Neifi, but you don't know that for certain. AAA stats don't compare to ML stats. Please include defense. Not to mention intagibles like leadership can't be ignored either. are you saying that Nefi is a leader on this team? if that is the case we are SOOOOOOOOOOO screwed Neifi is constantly going out to the mound and "consulting" with the pitcher. Drama queen Dusty probably eats that crap up and thinks it's indicative of Neifi's leadership, which is also probably why Neifi does it.
  11. I do know for certain that Cedeno couldn't have been more than slightly worse than Neifi, and potentially he could have been a whole lot better than Neifi.
  12. Walker is hitting .322 with a .375 OBP in August, Perez is hitting .326 with a .383 OBP. Just throwing that out there. Oh, and Neifi's had 16 fewer ABs Neifi's hot streaks are so unreliable that I'm inclined not to rely on Neifi at all.
  13. Neifi's defense relative to Walker's is not nearly enough to compensate for the lost offense. Neifi is a very good defender but that "Gold Glove" talk is way overblown. He's good but not that good. This is 2B we're talking about anyway, not SS.
  14. Even Dusty admitted Murton has proved he is very good against lefties, so it's puzzling that Murton is being replaced by Hairston, who will probably only face lefties. I can't see this as anything other than seniority-based favoritism.
  15. Is this the best defense of Dusty you can come up with? That he made a decision that anyone with an IQ above that of a chimpanzee would have made? Your endorsement is so weak that it actually makes Dusty look worse, not better.
  16. What really hurts is that Dusty squandered an absolutely perfect opportunity to get a good look at Ronny Cedeno. Now we don't know if Cedeno is good enough to start next year and we have to throw more money at Nomar that could have been used for the outfield. I couldn't imagine Cox screwing his team by putting veteran trash like Neifi Perez on the field instead of the potential shortstop of the future.
  17. It's embarassing if a rookie outplays an expensive vet. The solution: don't give the rookie the chance to do it. Unless of course you're the Braves, then the best player gets the job regardless of salary/experience.
  18. What I don't understand is how an inexperienced player is ever supposed to take a starting job away from a veteran on a Dusty Baker team. A veteran starter is always going to have a multi-million dollar salary. When Baker says "we can't bench Lawton or Burnitz for a rookie because they make lots of money", you could insert the name of any veteran everyday player into that statement.
  19. Analyze his stroke? I'd love to hear what Dusty's analysis of Neifi's stroke told him.
  20. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/chc/news/chc_news.jsp?ymd=20030705&content_id=409599&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp
  21. I am glad to see I am not the only one who has noticed this. He does seem to me to have some baby fat in his face, and his whole physique lacks muscle definition. I wouldn't even care about his appearance if he could stay healthy, but since he can't I do care. The type of injuries he gets are consistent with trying to play sports while being insufficiently conditioned. I would like to see him show up to spring training with a harder-looking body.
  22. Best thing? If the Cubs sweep the Astros this week, they're 4 back in the loss column with 40 games left and a ton of momentum on their side. The goal is to win, right? I certainly know I am not rooting for the Cubs to fall out of the WC race. Hendry/Baker should be creative and open-minded enough to insert Murton and Pie (for the struggling Burnitz and so-so Patterson) into the line-up with the goal being to win games. The Cubs have too many teams in front of them and I don't think they're good enough to beat out all those teams.
  23. I'd guess about 2M. Possibly 3M, but not likely. And of course he won't get any more multi-year offers. In that case, I really think the Royals should offer him 2.5 for a year ... Their attendance is down and nobody in the state of Kansas cares about the team much any more. I might make the trip to the stadium if Sosa were playing. Sure, he isn't even a shell of what he once was, but I'd love to see my first Sosa homer live. I think he'd get 5+ from an AL team. 5+? I doubt it. Even if Sosa rebounds the best you can realistically hope for is an OPS in the high .700's, maybe .800, and that's a big if. I wouldn't pay 5M for that, unless he learns to play shortstop.
  24. Aram is doing his best in the games, but you could still say he's lazy or lacks heart, in the sense that if he worked harder on physical fitness he probably wouldn't even have these injuries.
  25. Aram's physique just looks a little soft to me when compared to a lot of other players. All these nagging muscle injuries he gets also make me believe he needs to get more serious about fitness. Next spring I would like to see him with a more chiseled appearance in his lower body. What he needs most of all is some serious work on flexibility so he doesn't keep tweaking muscles. I don't know what type of flexibilty routine he's doing now, but it obviously isn't working very well.
