  1. The California analogy is not entirely accurate. No one will ever build a system that can protect California from earthquakes, so if you want to build in Cali there is no reason to wait. If NO is rebuilt, the water containment system will of course be upgraded to withstand cat 5 hurricanes. As a person looking to build a home or business in NO, your choices are to start construction now, or wait until the upgraded containment system is finished a few years from now. I'd bet the vast majority of people would rather wait a few years than gamble on the current levees.
  2. Thought I'd bump the wagn. We've been out of the race a while now and Murton has started 1 of the last 5 games. I wish I could say I had more hope for his future with the Cubs.
  3. Argh. I want Burnitz on the bench, not on the field getting meanigless hits in meaningless games. He will continue to play as long we are in sniffing distance of .500.
  4. Absolutely. If we were in the race I'd say sit Patterson but since we're not there's no reason not to play him. Murton should of course play instead of Burnitz. Burnitz's presence has became a cancer. how so? :? It's not Burnitz's fault, but our dumbass manager is wasting valuable at bats on him every day.

  6. Burnitz is the guy who shouldn't play. We already know everything about him and he's not very good.
  7. After today Murton will have started 1 of the last 5 games. I'm starting to think Dusty just doesn't like him.
  8. If he did it every day for 2 months, then yes.
  9. D. Eckstein ss A. Nunez 3b A. Pujols 1b J. Edmonds cf L. Walker rf M. Grudzielanek 2b J. Rodriguez lf E. Diaz c J. Suppan p There is a reason that line-up wasn't posted. Most people here don't care about the Cardinals. That's funny. I was a few seconds away from posting "who cares about those punks?".

  11. Don't have that ratio, but... Macias leads the NL (3rd in MLB) in % of the time he hits into the DP among players with at leat 20 chances to do so. In 23 DP opportunities, Macias has hit into 7 twin killings - 30.4% Next best/worst Cub - Neifi at 8th in NL with 18/76 - 23.7% Awesome numbers. It would be super cool if Macias could end the season with a 2-1 GIDP/BB ratio.
  12. We're out of the playoff race and Cedeno still starts less than half the games while Neifi starts the majority. It just seems so silly to me that anyone would believe Cedeno would start over Neifi next year.
  13. Macias has 6 GIDP and 4 walks. I wonder who leads the majors in GIDP/BB ratio among players with at least 120 PA?
  14. This harks back to the Macias threads when he was resigned. I and others were astonished he actually got a RAISE - 750K to 825K. I wasn't even sure he would be in the big leagues this year, let alone make more than twice the minimum.
  15. Not according to Hendry. But then again, what does he know? Yeah.... wasn't he the same guy that told us Sammy would be playing right field for us this year ??? In the preseason he also talked up Dubois as a potential Rookie of the Year, then it turned out Hollandsworth was the starter. Hendry says a lot of BS for public consumption. Judging by how quickly Dubois was dumped it wouldn't surprise me if Hendry was looking for offers for Dubois even before opening day and the ROY talk was just hype to inflate Dubois' value.
  16. My understanding is that Neifi is coming back too. There is zero chance of Cedeno starting over Neifi at SS. I suppose we could see Neifi at SS and Cedeno at 2B. If it were up to me I'd go with Cedeno at SS and Walker at 2B and dump Neifi.
  17. It's really a Murton vs. Burnitz comparison. We've obviously seen more than enough of Burnitz, and not nearly enough of Murton.
  18. And Murton even hit a home run to deep center which is what Dusty said Murton needed (power). Yeah sure, but we need a better look at Burnitz, therefore Murton must sit.
  19. Put yourself in the shoes of a businessman or homebuyer looking to return to New Orleans after the water is drained. Now that you've seen what a cat 4 hurricane can do, would you invest hundreds of thousands or in some cases many millions of dollars to construct or repair a building before a new containment system is built - one can that withstand a cat 5 hurricane? How could you justify such a reckless decision to stockholders or family members? I certainly could not, nor do I think many other people could. Another question - what bank would be foolish enough to issue loans to people reckless enough to rebuild before a better containment system is in place? How about insurance? I can't see how rebuilding can begin with the same crappy levies.
  20. Jeez, Murton and Cedeno have only started one of the past 4 games. I would fire a manager in a heatbeat for this type of bullcrap. This is deliberate malfeasance.
  21. Is that the lineup? Where did you get it so early?
  22. 5 yrs. is a very low estimate IMO. NO will not be rebuilt as quickly as a city in California because the new containment system must be completed before any sane person will even consider breaking ground on new contruction projects, so you have to add a few extra years to any estimate. If another hurricane hits the city before the new containment system is finished you may have to tack on another year or two.
  23. 26 starts, 146 PA. In 2005 Jason Dubois got 35 starts and 152 PA before being dumped. A whopping 6 PA more than Lenny Freaking Harris.
  24. I can't find words to express how strongly I disagree with this statement.
