  1. Um, I think we're overlooking quite possibly the best option out there and he won't cost us anything in terms of players: The one, the only. . . Ernie Banks.
  2. Just from my own petty Cub fan perspective: 1. Realign the divisions so that the Cubs, Royals, Pirates, Devil Rays and Rockies are in the same division. 2. Ban Albert Pujols from the game. 3. Relocate the White Sox to Omaha. 4. Institute a rule that at least one Yankees player must be beaned every game. 5. Keep Mark Prior and Kerry Wood in hermetically sealed packages from the end of the season to spring training.
  3. Looks like you did:
  4. So basically, every Cubs player should wrap themselves in bubble wrap and sit quietly in their basement until April 21? I think the team would be well within their rights to forfeit any game on April 20 if it keeps us all together for the rest of the season.
  5. I can't remember if this was mentioned anywhere in this thread, but let's all realize that this is the second time that Rafael Furcal has screwed the Cubs within four months (all non-scoring related too). What does he have against us? :x
  6. At the very least, we would know how the Royals feel every year.
  7. Or, as Boras likes to call it, "establishing a market." How long before Boras says that every team in the bigs wants Maddux based on three starts.
  8. Apropos of nothing, Mike Mussina has made over $103 million in his career. I mean come on! Of course, Maddux has made over $124 million, Clemens has made $121 million and Randy Johnson has made $127 million.
  9. This is like Lenny Harris telling Hendry to make the Lee trade. To think that our current situation was all left in Alf's six-fingered hands.
  10. That's who I was thinking of! So first Buehrle accuses Maddux of cheating and then he steals his belly-flop move? Ridiculous!
  11. 8-8-88. The first night of lights at Wrigley was a rainout by the 3rd or 4th inning. As the tarp was put out, several Cubs, including a Rick Sutcliffe, were seen slip and sliding across the Wrigley infield. Not only is Buehrhe un-original, he's still playing second fiddle to the Cubs.
  12. I know it isn't an option, but I'll throw my hat in for play-by-play TV guy! And if Hoops doesn't get GM, it will be a travesty and an injustice.
  13. Yes, it was only two years, but they were brilliant years for him. A Cy Young award and getting the team to the World Series for the first time ever. I agree that it isn't a HUGE possibility, but he still made a significant contribution to the team.
  14. Toilet humor: keeping men entertained for 2,000 years. :D
  15. Seeing as how Roger has been an icon with every team he's played, with the exception of the Blue Jays, whose cap does he go into HOF with? I would think it's the true match is between BOS and NYY, but seeing as how he led Houston to their first World Series and he's from Texas, you can't completely throw them out of the equation either.
  16. Eyre was the one who said that he had bad Chipotle (which to me is redundant, but whatever floats your boat). I wonder how far the run is from the bullpen to the clubhouse bathroom?
  17. I was actually at that game. I remember the crowd initially started laughing because it was so bad, then started booing because they realized it wasn't a joke. Well, it was a joke, but not a funny one.
  18. As the public relations coordinator for the American Association of Endodontists (dentists who specialize in root canals), I must stop you for that statement. Modern root canal treatment is virtually painless as endodontists employ expertise in anesthesia and modern instrumentation that cause little discomfort and can complete treatment in one visit. The myth that root canals hurt has been perpetuated through stereotypes that no longer exist. You know, like the fact that Neifi is a solid hitter. Whew. Now I feel better about posting at work, because I'm kinda doing my job now! I had one last summer and it was pianful as a mofo. Sue Daske!!! I have lawyers in place. Next time no anesthetic!
  19. I won't give you the full commercial, depending on the type of tooth being treated, how infected it is and whether you went to a general dentist or an endodontist factors into it. Meanwhile, back to baseball :)
  20. I don't mind that move so much. Have Cedeno between Neifi and the pitcher makes the lineup a little deeper than having 2 non-hitters in a row.

  22. I don't want to jump into the middle of this, but I take exception of comparing manager of year awards to the gold gloves. Yes, the gold gloves have become a joke in recent years because they seem to be rewarding offense and reputation more than actual defensive skills. But if you look at the past managers of the year, they really do deserve the honors for their accomplishments. This isn't like awarding it to Joe Torre every year because the Yankees made the playoffs. People like Bobby Cox the past two years for the NL, and Ozzie and Buck Showalter (2005 and 2004, respectively) really did good jobs as manager and led their teams to a higher caliber of play. Okay, carry on with your discussion.
  23. Maybe by "change of scenery" they meant somewhere other rehabbing in Arizona every season. I would love Prior to have a change of scenery to Wrigley myself.
  24. While I agree with that statement in concept, have you heard some of the things that have come out of Kruk's mouth? Or my favorite from last night's Baseball Tonight, Steve Phillips said that the WBC didn't negatively affect participating pitchers because they should have been ready to pitch when they arrived in March. Pure genius.
  25. Not to derail this thread further, but did anybody see Tino Martinez's debut on Baseball Tonight about a week or so ago? I'm not sure if it was the deer-in-the-headlights look or his stilted delivery, but either way he quickly became my least favorite new guy to be added to ESPN's payroll. Why isn't an Eric Karros or AL Leiter taking Kruk or Reynolds place on that set?
