    That would be great. However, seeing as the player's union dragged its feet this long for substantial steroids testing, I can't see it implemented in 08.

    For anyone with Gameday audio, the call is marked at 3:32:40. Love him or hate him, Ronnie speaks for all Cubs fans with his love for the team.

    I posted other because the Cardinal I hate most is Tony Larussa. Everything about how he runs a team rubs me the wrong way.

    For what it's worth, one of my female friends was out at the Hunt Club with Cliff Floyd, Sean Marshall, Mike Fontenot and DLee Friday night. (excuse me while I pick up those names I just dropped) Cliff told her that he was going to retire at the end of the year to raise his kids. So we may not have to worry about that one.

    Yes, it goes severely downhill after Penny, Lowe and Billingsley. With Schmidt and Wolf hurt, they are using guys like Hendrickson, Stults and Tomko/Wells in their rotation. They're like the Cardinals of the west coast, pulling everything off the scrap heap.

    It's hard hitting analysis like that that shows why ESPN is #1. I liked Jayson Stark more when he had the 70s porn star perm and mustache.

    Fixed. I firmly believe that if ESPN weren't based out of Bristol, there wouldn't be as much a focus on the Red Sox/Yankees. Fox at least does a decent job of showcasing teams regionally. Can you imagine if ESPN did that with Sunday Night Baseball? Maybe more people would be interested in teams nationwide. And we wouldn't have to deal with Joe Morgan in every broadcast.

    Tough break for Garner. He seemed like a good fit the past couple of years, but he just hasn't had a good team this year. I'm sure he'll land with another team next year looking a gritty old-timer.

    Len and Bob were talking about Murton the other day, saying that he completely changed his approach when he came to spring training this year. Bob was a little taken aback that someone at Murton's age and level would so drastically change his total approach. I blame Dusty. :)

    Actually, it probably is. I called the public relations department to get permission to use the Cubs logo on a groom's cake. The girl asked that I email the request and she would respond. Her name was Veronica Lopez and her email address was vlopez@cubs.com. On a sidenote. You don't need the Cubs permission to use their logo on a cake. You would only need it if you were somehow going to profit from the use of the logo. Unless of course you need it for the baker requested it. I highly doubt the Cubs would even know if you used it or not. You actually do need permission from the Cubs. Bakeries (regardless of you telling them that no one with know) cannot use copyrighted images on their products without written consent. I ran into this problem around the Super Bowl trying to get a photo of the Bears on a cake.

    I wouldn't mind adding an experienced pitcher either. With another long stretch of games coming up, it would be good to have a relatively "fresh" arm in the bullpen that can provide long relief for some of our younger pitchers. And I'm sure where the kids are ranking in terms of IP, but I would expect some of them being a little fatigued as September rolls in.

    Yeah that has heartbreak written all over it. I really really don't want to have to go in there needing to clinch, either have it done or be out of it. Shades of Victor Diaz haunting my memory.

    I think that record will be more than enough to win the central. Whether or not the Cubs are up to the challenge is the thing. I don't think we can assume winning every series, especially with a series against the D-Backs, a hungry Cardinals team and the Reds which somehow own us.

    Just as we learned in the 2000 election, just because you earn the popular vote doesn't make you the winner.

    Two posts in and already it starts. Personally, I was expecting it to be the first post. Let's step it up a bit people. Step it up? While its a hyperbole (he wont be COMPLTELY useless, and will be more like 1/7th of the payroll), the long term considerations of Sorianos contract is absolutely a reasonable concern. Sorry, I was referring to the fact that it took two posts in a Hendry appreciation thread before reality of his tenure reared its ugly head. I was expecting the first post to do that.

    SWEET Time to appeal (and drop the appeal after the Cubs play the Brewers). Wait, don't you want him to drop the appeal BEFORE the Brewers come to town? Like maybe, for the entire series?

    Same here. With the best seats I'll ever have in my life. Me too. I signed up for some Mastercard Dream Days promotion and I guess got selected. I will be on the field and in the dugout before BP, get to sit in club box seats for BP as well. Not sure where the game seats are. Cheers to you! How are you not proclaiming this from the mountaintop? If I got these seats, I'd be putting it in my sig! P.S. w00t! 1000 posts!

    In terms of additional weather conditions, it's going to be REALLY hot and humid. I recommend lots of water prior to the game if you plan on beering it up.
