  1. Soriano Fuku Lee ARam Soto DeRo Theriot Z/Lilly/Marquis/Gally/Liebs/Hill/Marshall/Dempster/whoever Edmonds Or if you subscribe to Yost or LaRussa's 2nd leadoff man in the nine hole (which I don't...) Soriano Fuku Lee Aram Soto DeRo Pitcher Edmonds Theriot In other words, I hit Edmonds behind the pitcher because he sucks and I have no hope for him, not because of the 2nd leadoff strategy.
  2. Where has anybody in this thread welcomed him with open arms? Some people are waving their torches and pitchforks; some are looking for a silver lining. I haven't seen anybody saying "this is awesome!" Far more torches and pitchforks than silver lining. I now hate the Padres for releasing him and putting us in this situation. I hate them right behind the Cardinals and before the Yankees.
  3. Does anyone here practice Voo Doo? Anyone? Please make a doll of Corey and every other Red that can play CF and poke them in the knees with a needle. You know Dusty would be foaming at the mouth to get Edmonds if he had a need. "Dude knows how to win, dude..."
  4. Ummm...Oswalt, um........ um...... Crap, I don't know.
  5. And I thought my language was bad when I first got back from Iraq...
  6. What! You can't commend that type of behavior. Bad boy. No dinner for you. Exactly. Don't set precedent for the rest of us. You know what Abe's wife has? A man for a husband. this You know what Jehrico and I have? A sense of humor. I don't know about you, but I have the sense of humor of a 10 year old.
  7. No, but the previous seasons numbers added to those do. Edmonds may be better than Reed against righties, but Pie would be even better than him against righties. Defensively, we'd be taking a big hit with him out there over either other option. I'd take Johnsons defense and offense against righties over Edmonds defense and offense against righties. The last thing we need is a weaker CFer causing Soriano to try to cover more ground. If Soriano gets hurt again, we'll be looking at outfields with both Reed Johnson and Edmonds out there, which would be a complete and total disaster.
  8. You have to give Lou credit for the same reason you ding Dusty. Dusty would never hire Perry because he thinks he has a flawed philosophy. Lou obviously believes in it, so he gets some credit for bringing Perry in. Perry for hitting coach of the year.
  9. Signing Jim Edmonds is like making a deal with the devil. I normally wouldn't mind that, because I bet the devil can rake. In this case, however, the devil is past his prime and sucks.

  11. Lou drives me nuts with some of his decisions. That said, I don't think there's ever been a manager that doesn't make some moves that fans find stupid. I'm happy with Lou because we have a good, fundamentally sound team. Dusty never did provide that. Even in 2003, we were a fundamentally bad baseball team, Dusty never had this team ready coming out of ST. This is MLB, there's no excuse to be fundamentally unsound at this level.
  12. The 15 would have to be in some cutesy font with curly qs and stuff like that. Maybe the front of his jersey can have a heart instead of a dot over the i in Chicago.
  13. he has to be somewhat popular, otherwise why would the owners sit back and watch him completely destroy two baseball franchises? In 2003, they beat the uberexpensive Yankees in the series with a small-market payroll. He gave all of the other cheapass owners out there an alibi. I think they like him. By "alibi" do you mean something else? No, I mean alibi. They can now say "we're not loosing because we won't open up our wallets. Look at the Marlins, they're proof!" whenever the fans get restless because the teams won't open up the bank.
  14. Lock and ban those who recreate similar threads! :banned:
  15. Everyone has been focusing on how the Cardinals are playing over their heads and exceeding expectations. Has anyone noticed that Houston has all but quietly caught up to them? They're only a half game behind them now, while the Brew Crew is sitting in fourth. And they've done it without a dominant Oswalt to boot. What is going on here?

  17. It's not a joke though to the best of my knowledge... So homophobia's cool then, just so long as the target actually is a [expletive]? No. Only as long as the target is actually Edmonds and only Edmonds.
  18. Meh personally I dont know why Lou deserves credit for this move. Melvin was the one who made the move look good by walking him. Personally I wouldve went with Cedeno, who has shown patience this year, that way if Melvin pitches to him, he has a better chance to put the ball in play. Or if he IBB's him, then you still have one of your best hitters still available, instead of being wasted to get IBB. Melvin should have pitched to Soriano and see if he would get himself out like he so often does. Lou makes a good call and he still gets critiqued. Cub fans are never happy. Just because a call works out doesn't make it a good call. If Fox struck out the first two batters he faced, it was still would have been a bad call. Fans tend to judge calls based on the results, but managers should be judged based on the situation, not how it turns out. I think that's true, but I do find it to be a bit of a double standard that comparatively few people give Lou credit for the good moves he makes, but entire threads are dedicated to the bad moves. Very true, but that's a fact of life of anyone in the public eye. It's not fair, but hey, for his salary, I'd let everyone put me under that magnifying glass too.
  19. I'm in the camp that thinks it was not a good start, but that doesn't matter. Despite not being a great start (last minute conditions notwithstanding), he showed he's got the arm and the "stuff" to succeed at this level. This start only reinforced my excitement for him in the future regardless of what the final box score said.

  21. Trust me...it's true. Remember the old donut shop? That became media relations in 2005 because there was no place to put them when they expanded another department. Now Media Relations is in a trailer in the parking lot. One very small department has people in four different areas because there is not a space to accomodate them all. It's an old ballpark and there is no more room to add office space. So if they redo the grandstand, I think the current employees might be quite happy. It was why everyone was looking forward to the triangle building on the corner of Clark and Waveland as it would have included office space. How hard would it be to rent some office space somewhere? It makes no sense that they allow the space in Wrigley to constrict them. Maybe this might prove to the masses that the Cubs don't print money under the grandstands???? No. That's why they're short on office space.
  22. If Corey continues to suck or gets hurt, I could see Dusty going after him.
  23. Good question. I don't think there's enough space in the Cubs clubhouse for all of them. In all seriousness seeing Jimmy in a Cubs uniform would be depressing. For everyone involved. Hopefully he wouldn't cause a stir in the clubhouse trying to grab someone's crotch.
  24. I just don't read anything on mlb.com. It's a horrible (collection of) website(s).
