  1. Bold prediction: St Louis signs him and finds their next Edmonds, without the three-steps-in-the-wrong-direction-followed-by-spectacular-looking-diving-catches-on-routine-flys that the Cards fans used to love.
  2. You have no idea how much this depresses me Makes me glad we didn't trade both of the Seans for Roberts. Can't have enough pitching depth.
  3. I hate to throw you under the bus, but after the "best record in baseball" thread, I have no choice but to call for locking this thread and.... :banned:  :nutkick: :club: Okay, maybe this isn't as bad as that thread, but still...
  4. + 1 agreed, Toronto should look into dealing Halladay to us since they can't win a game for him :-). They can have Pie, Zamardja, Colvin, whoever they want for him. As much as I'd hate to trade Ronny right now, I would gladly throw him into a package for Halladay if needed.
  5. What on earth has Cedeno done to convince you that he will be above average? At the risk of falling into the sample size trap, .367/.417/.545 in 44 ABs this year, working more deep counts than ever, going oppo like a pro and generally owning most of the ABs he has had in 2008. And everyone else already mentioned the AAA numbers. More than just working deeper into counts, he finally looks like he has a solid approach at the plate. He always had the talent, the question was whether he would ever "get it." He now looks like he "gets it."
  6. this helps explain his RBI total. his line with the bases loaded -- 833/833/1.667/2.500 IsoD of .000? Loser. Proof that IsoD is snake oil
  7. Hard to say that Soto's '07 experience didn't help him...
  8. Someone tell Cuban he can stay in Dallas with the original copy of his crappy film that no one wants to watch.
  9. Which is also in line with my point. With guys like Lee and Utley if the HR's are not there they get replaced by doubles. It doesn't work that way with Dunn. If he only hit 30 hr's last season he would have seen a drop in his slug% buy 80 point and would take him down to an .820 OPS. He still had a superb isolated obp last season of .122. If that simply dropped down to .100 which is superb for any player in baseball his OPS would have been right about .800. Thats would have been around 14 less walks last season. So we are now looking at 24 PA that resulted in a .100 increase in his OPS. Statistically he is walking on very thin ice from looking solid with his OPS to very crappy for a guy with his power. Walks and HR's play way too much of a factor in Dunn's stats, more so than any other player in baseball. He's a modern day Rob Deer, with more walks. I'd take Burrell over him in a heartbeat, due to the rest of his game (and the fact that Dunn doesn't strike me as too agile, I see him being a DL-frequenter in a couple of years), but I wouldn't complain about Dunn in our lineup. He can't play CF, tough question as to whether I'd take him over Sori or Kosuke.
  10. Keep Wuertz around. He's always been a slow starter. If you're going to weather a historically slow starter at the major league level to begin the year, you don't send him down before the time when he starts heating up.
  11. So why is he writing about something that was low level a year ago and never gained any steam? Note to self: Don't read Tom Krasovic in the future.
  12. If he's pitching, some prospect starter isn't. How often do we complain about Hendry because we've got someone ready to go in AAA but they're blocked by some crappy, overpaid vet whose best days are long gone? Prospect? Dumatrait? You've got to be kidding me. If Matt Morris was starting and the bucs had a prospect who could be called up, then that'd be fine. BUT THEY DONT! Dumatrait is a bum who was released by the Reds and has never come close to having a K/BB over 2 since Rookieball/low A in 2001. We complain about Hendry because we have some legitimate pitchers in the minors, who are arguably better than some of the vets in the majors. The Bucs don't have that. Dumatrait is a reliever. You don't cut a guy like him out of the bullpen to free a spot and take a starting prospect in the minors who has never worked out of the pen before unless you're in a position of contention and there's just no other alternatives. See Pignatiello over Marshall at the beginning of the year. Dumatrait and Morris are apples and oranges. Dumatrait shouldn't be in the conversation as to whether or not they should or shouldn't cut Morris. What should be considered is who they are going to bring up to fill that hole in the starting rotation. If they bring up some AAAA filler, then you have a complaint. If they bring up a legit prospect whose time has come, then you can't really complain about the move. That said, I don't know if they have any better starting or relieving prospects than what they have in Morris or Dumatrait. I just won't advocate or condemn the decision to cut Morris because Dumatrait is on the team, because Dumatrait is pulling an entirely different role on the team. Also, if you're thinking Morris could have been moved to the pen in lieu of Dumatrait, Dumatrait doesn't have the history of arm problems with no prior experience getting up and working consecutive days like Morris. I wouldn't advocate that move either. Also, Dumatrait is sporting an ERA+ just over 100 this year (for now), so maybe he's not doing as horrible as you think. Plus, at 26, there's no reason to believe he can't become a serviceable reliever. Morris is going on 34, has posted an ERA+ of 90 three of the last four years, so there's really no reason to expect that he might return to his 25 year old form again. I can't really tell if you are arguing with me or against me. I never said anything about moving morris to the pen. And Dumatrait absolutely is part of the discussion as to whether or not you cut morris because hes the one whos replacing him int he rotation. Hes the AAAA flyer you speak of. They aren't bringing up a legit prospect, because they don't have any (pitching that is). If we are going to be dumb and quote ERA+ over 20 innings of baseball, then I'l site his major league ERA+ of 31 last year. Yes, 31. Or we can talk about his 13 Ks and 13 BBs in 20.6 innings this year and that stellar 5.23 FIP hes sporting. Yeah, he is as horrible as I think. Defending Dumatrait is a losing battle buddy, don't go there. Listen, I'm not saying Morris is good, or will regain what he once was. What I'm saying is that IT DOESNT MATTER. The bucs are goign to be well out of the playoff race with morris sucking, with morris doing well, without morris and his replacement sucking or without morris and his replacement doing well. The bucs don't have anyone worth a damn to put in morris' place, so if you are going to lose anyway and don't have anyone worthy of a spot in the rotation that will have any promise, whats the point in sending morris home? You keep him, best case scenario you can pawn him off for a couple guys near the deadline. Worst case scenario is you don't make the playoffs, can't trade him and pay him his full salary. You get rid of him, best case scenario is you give his spot to some piece of garbage who is going to pitch just as bad as him. Worst case scenario is you don't make the playoffs and pay him his full salary. When you originally posted, did you know Dumatrait was going to replace him in the rotation? Apparently I had missed that fact, and I thought your whole argument was that cutting Morris didn't make sense when you have a reliever as bad as Dumatrait in the pen.
  13. We have a new public enemy no 1. I hate SI and their jinx...
  14. I wouldn't do Pie and Cedeno for Green, they'd have to throw in another prospect. Theriot and Pie? Oh yeah.

  17. I still think Zito can bounce back. He had some good starts a year ago. Plus, he's way too talented to keep on performing like he has. I don't know. His peripherals have been more or less declining for about half a decade now. He hit his peak young, and it doesn't look like he'll ever be that pitcher again.
  18. The Pirates weren't even the ones that gave Morris that horrible contract. Ironically, it was Sabean who signed Morris to that deal, just like he gave Zito that horrendous contract. He luckily found someone dumb enough to take that contract. I don't see him getting lucky again with Zito if he keeps this up.
  19. For anyone who is still worked up over this, remember this is Will Carroll. If it isn't injury related, he's the worst source out there. Remember when he scooped that we had signed Pudge? He has no inside sources for that aspect of the game.
  20. Don't you even think about finishing that post...
  21. Know how to spot someone with a broken sarcasm reader? They're the colorblind ones...
  22. uh, no We're pretty good, the Brewers are also pretty good. If the Cardinals keep playing above their talent level (which isn't unusual for that franchise), they're off to a good start. The East is better on paper, but right now the Central is playing the best.
  23. I'm still scratching my head why Hendry would trade for that contract for our AAAA team
  24. Just to reinforce what SouthsideRyan said, Wuertz historically takes 6-8 weeks before we see the lights-out Wuertz that we all know and love.
  25. We should do better against the west this year. The NL West = last year's NL Central, as the worst division in baseball. If it weren't for AZ, there wouldn't be one decent team in the division. Ironically, I think the NL Central may be the toughest division this year in the NL. As for whoever said the only thing making SD tough is Peavy and Young, Young put up a 4.80 ERA after the AS break, went on the DL, and is sporting a decent 3.77 ERA this year. Last year's first half was a flash in the pan. He's an above league average pitcher, but nowhere near ace consideration, and shouldn't be mentioned in the same league as Peavy.
