  1. I thought his deal was longer. Then Colleti is just really stupid, and not monumentally stupid like I previously believed.
  2. Jones maybe, I don't know about Pierre. Jones put up production worthy of his contract in 2 of the previous three years to his contract. Pierre not at all.
  3. They're not above making bad trades like everyone else though. See: Julio Lugo and Coco Crisp. I supposed the Crisp deal wasn't horrible at the time, but I'm sure they'd love to take both of those back now.
  4. Oh yeah, one more thing. Zito would suck as a Loogy too. Lefties are hitting close to .300 off of him.
  5. I would love to see Yost fired, LaRussa retire at the end of the year, and then see Yost replace LaRussa next year. It'd be like all Cubs fans winning the lotto.
  6. Boras is quite happy. He already got the rich long-term deal that extends through the last of his prime years. From an agent stand point, mission completed.
  7. Besides Hinrich, Deng was easily the most frustrating player to watch on the Bulls this year. I was very disappointed with his performance this past season. Deng would be my runner up for frustrating player behind Hinrich as well. I think I would have him in front of Gordon for MVP though...you can count on him for more minutes, and for better defense.
  8. Hey, I'm in favor of anything that saves the boobies.
  9. True, but Jones not even trying to report to camp in shape does reinforce his claim that he doesn't care. For $1 mil a year, I'd hire an entire training staff and a personal chef specializing in healthy cooking to get myself into the absolute best condition I could be. For his salary?
  10. http://www.sportsline.com/nba/teams/report/CHI/10821550 Interesting roll up of the Bulls offseason. They discuss who is deserving of the team MVP award, most disappointing player, etc. What's funny is that Loul Deng should be considered for both most disappointing and the MVP award. I think Gordon could be considered for both, but not as much as Deng on the disappointing side.
  11. I wonder how much of his suckiness is due to his physical conditioning? Some guys can rake with their fatness (ala John Kruk), other guys performance direcly correlates with their condition. If I were the Dodgers, I'd make his fat ass lose the weight and find out of that enables him to return to form, or if he's just lost it.
  12. Zito's. Ditto. At least Hampton could still hit a little bit. Also, Hampton was one of the better pitchers in the league right before signing that contract. It turned out badly, but at the time the only criticism Colorado was drawing was for giving him such an unprecedentedly long deal, not for the annual salary. Zito, on the other hand, had gotten progressively worse each and every season since winning the Cy Young. Sabean gave him a deal that would have been appropriate had he just come off of consecutive Cy Youngs like Santana. That contract was a stinker from Day 1.
  13. All I can say is...wow... I could only be happier if it were the Cardinals that signed him instead of Colletti when he put him right next to Juan Pierre. It's amazing the Dodgers aren't in last with the crap Colletti has put together. You really have to give Torre some credit. http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/dodgers/la-sp-simers11-2008may11,0,532491.column
  14. Awareness for organizations that raise funds for breast cancer treatments and research? And which one was mentioned in the article? This is the trib we're talking about.
  15. This is Theo Epstein we're talking about here, not Ned Colletti Okay. Theriot and Ryan Harvey. ;)
  16. Not even close, IMO. You mean Edmonds isn't close to Jones and Griffey, right? Jones is easily one of the best CF ever. Edmonds was a great fielder, but not better than Andruw. Jones isn't even in the Top 15 of all-time CF. He couldn't carry the jock of players like Mays, Mantle, Cobb and Snider. Can't say I've seen any of those guys personally to compare them to defensively. Are there any annually adjusted defensive metrics to compare those guys? Heck, are there even any good defensive metrics without adjusting for the year? Anyone here ever see all of those guys play?
  17. Awareness for organizations that raise funds for breast cancer treatments and research?
  18. I don't know anything about Lowrie. If he really is a solid SS prospect, I'd offer Theriot. Sell high.
  19. Z's going to be decked out in pink when he pitches against the DBacks today. Unfortunately, I'll be watching from work and won't get to see it. Hopefully he won't be throwing like a girl while he's dressed like one. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080510-carlos-zambrano-chicago-cubs,1,180654.story
  20. don't get too confident True, we do have a tendancy of getting pwned by crappy ex-cubs. See most recently: Augie Ojeda.
  21. In that case they can only give it to Geovany Soto as no one else is worthy of the name. No, future rookies have to be of the quality of Geovany Soto in order to win the award. What happens next year then? Geo can't win the Soto award anymore because he won't be a rookie. Only once every 10-20 years does a Soto-quality rookie come along (if that often, we had ARod come up in the 90s). Do we not award it? I think next year we return to the original title of Rookie of the Month, and change the MLB player of the month to the Soto award instead. Because, let's face it, veterans as well as rookies should also be aspiring to be more good like Geovany Soto.
  22. I don't know how I feel about that. It's like a teaser. We pound him in the first, he gets the quick hook, then we're all left sitting there like "dang, I was really enjoying watching that."
  23. Hopefully these guys are intimidated by Eyre's 0.00 ERA.
  24. Bingo What happened to Fukupatience? I've been waiting a long time for another fukubomb.
