  1. It's not all that long ago that the system was very highly regarded. I would consider almost a decade ago to be a very long time in baseball. Okay then. So to you, "in the past" means 5-8 years ago? No. I consider it the future.

  3. Ahhhh, the sweet smell of average. Smells better then the crap that was the system in the past. Also, I hate these types of articles. It's clear that the writer didn't really look into the system at all and only perused a couple of old articles about the system. I wouldn't trust this article for any info or opinion on the Cubs system or any others.
  4. Torn ACL: http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/08/12/mri-shows-jones-has-torn-acl-agent-said/?cxntlid=brkng_nws_bnr Crappy way to end a career if he does retire.
  5. I predict: Cubs lose 5-1 Dempster goes 7, 4R (3 ER), gvillecubs or whatever his name is shows up to moan about how he didn't throw a perfect game and therefore is over paid.
  6. Whatever happened was during an inning. Boise was losing 2-0 with 2 out in the bottom of the 1st. The last play was a run-scoring double. Nothing in the game recap indicates the reason for the forfeit. Jody Davis told the umps to suck it. Seriously though, there was a rain delay and Davis didn't think the field was playable, but the umps did. He refused to have the Hawks take the field and the umps called the game a forfeit: http://www.ktvb.com/sports/boise-hawks/Hawks-forfeit-at-Everett-100207394.html
  7. I just got home from the Peoria game and damn did they suck tonight. (Both teams did) The 1st inning took almost an hour to complete and ended with the Chiefs leading 3-1. There was 1 hit in the entire inning, a 2 run single from Mercedes. (It didn't help that the River Bandits pitcher was trying to be Steve Trachsel and take as long as possible between pitches.) Wallach did not look good. He had no control and little movement. Hopefully whoever worked with Archer can help him, because if he doesn't improve dramatically, he isn't getting past Daytona at best. There were two plays by the Chiefs that pissed me off. One was a bunt where Logan Watkins didn't bother to cover first. Luckily Wallach was able to run and barely tag the batter. The second was a possible DP fielded by Bour to Lee, but the pitcher at the time once again didn't cover first. This is just stupidity. I guess the entire Cubs organization is infected by it. Lee looked okay at the play and had a couple slick plays at short. Bour sucks. Ha is improving but still needs to build his pitch recognition.
  8. I think Jason Kubel did it last year, but I'm too lazy to look it up. I think the walkoff was a grand slam, too. It was the game-winning hit but happened in the bottom of the 8th.
  9. I highly doubt it since he has only thrown 28 innings in AA. With Bibens-Dirkx, Jay Jackson, Samardizja, Mathes, Atkins and Coleman all already in Iowa, they don't need another starter. I would hope for Cashner to go back down and get back to starting. Carpenter could also be moved up, I think.
  10. We already have too many outfielders. And I like Hermida. DFA Nady. Problem solved This. DFA Nady (31) and replace with Hermida (26)
  11. Bruce Miles thinks that is why Diamond was pulled early from his start a couple days ago. That's where I got the rumor from.
  12. I'm pretty happy with the return. Wallach could turn into Archer Part 2 which would be great and Dewitt is a decent player who can hold down 2b until Hak-Ju Lee or whoever may be ready. At this point, thanks to the Astros and the DBacks driving down the price of their stars, getting this much back for Lilly is great. I don't trust Hendry not to do something stupid, such as either not offering arbitration or just re-signing Lilly. I hope the Cubs dangle Fontenot, but luckily even though the trade deadline is in 25 minutes from when I'm typing this, Fontenot can probably get through waivers or at least be a waiver claim deal easily enough. I don't know what the Cubs could get back for him, but he is superfluous at this point.
  13. Rumor is that Thomas Diamond will be called up.
  14. I will give props to Howry for not flinching.
  15. Tejada to the Padres for a pitcher http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/miguel-tejada-josh-bell-scratched.html
  16. No, he had 670 PA in 1977 and 78. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grossgr01.shtml
  17. Drop Fukudome Add Vladimir Guerrero
  18. Buzz Aldrin exactly. Third guy on the moon is the much better question. Ooh Ooh what about who was the LAST guy to walk on the moon. Gene Cernan. (Didn't even have to look that up)
  19. There are several teams I could see at least making an attempt at ARam this off-season if he opts out (budget numbers according to Cot's): Red Sox: Lowell is a FA, Ortiz has a club option that I doubt gets picked up, and Beltre is likely to opt out, especially with the weak FA class. Further, V-Mart is a FA and Bill Hall could be gone. They have the money and the need. Angels: The have a lot of people due raises next year, but are still only at ~$80mil right now. Their current roster sits at ~$120mil. With their 3B options not being stellar (Brenden Wood hasn't developed the way they wanted and could be trade bait), they could be looking for offense. White Sox: 2011 budget currently sits at ~$66mil, with ~$100mil being their probable cap. Konerko and Pierzynski are both FA, and they only have 4 or 5 players due raises through Arb. at this time. Their current 3Bman is Teahan, who isn't exactly a stellar bat at a position where you're usually looking for some power. Tigers: Also losing a lot of budget restriction is the Tigers, who could have nearly $80mil coming off the books (depending on Magglio's option vesting or not). Otherwise its still ~$65 mil. (Bonderman, Inge, Willis, Robertson, Damon, and Laird are all gone). Cubs: Duh. Also to consider: Mariners: Losing ~$20 mil from the books Dodgers: Have $40 mil coming off the books Discussed but not likely: Phillies: Already near their budget without Arb raises. (Blanton is going to go from $3mil this year to $10mil next year)
  20. Aram wasn't a good defender in Pittsburgh, was he? If I recall, that was the one major knock on him when we traded for him. He had a good glove but tended to throw balls away. Having Lee helped and he has become better with the throws.
