  1. Ron Kulpa lost his horsefeathering mind.
  2. Colorado got 1 pt against the Blues, putting them 7 pts up. If the Hawks end up not getting any points against the Jets, which seems likely with them now down 4-2 with 3 minutes left, their season is officially over. Turns out it was an offsides play, the Hawks are only down 1, but really, it's still over.
  3. July 10, the Wednesday after the ASG
  4. On one hand, he gave up a homer, on the other, he went 4 batters and not only didn't walk anyone, but only threw 1 ball...

  6. So what you're saying is that Ryan Braun is banned from Canada?

  8. ST can really be cut down by a week. Nobody cares about these games. Duensuck's spring ERA is now over 10. But I did find it funny that the last two pitchers today were Brach and Blach.
  9. I remember not liking AA up until he chestbelly bumped that ump that called Alou's double foul against the Cards. Ironically, apparently that ump is now the head of the instant replay umps.
  10. Back in college, I had a friend who tried to make a chicken dish using green pepper jelly. They came out about that color. We called it Windex Chicken. I don't remember how it tasted, but I don't recall it being bad.
  11. Those made me think of this one from last season: Might be the most pure, squared up ball I've ever seen.
  12. The Cubs don't do too bad in the first half, but really don't excel either. They enter July with a 43-42 record (1 game to be made up) and split the series against the Pirates. Addison Russell has been DFA'd after batting .190 through the start of June, when evidence emerges that he continues to harass one of his exes and him being out late at night at bars/clubs on nights before day games. Maddon makes more dumb statements, which is a marked difference from the rest of the season where he doesn't seem to be doing anything. They start July by splitting at the Pirates and the Sox, going into the break with a 46-45 record, but only a couple back of the Brewers, who aren't doing crap either. The shock comes on the Wednesday after the break, when the Cubs announce that Joe Maddon has been fired with Mark Loretta taking his place. The Cubs rebound in the second half and end up going 92-70, winning a NL Central where the teams beat the crap out of each other with no team really pulling away. The Brewers end up in second, but miss the playoffs as the Braves and Rockies take the WC spots.
  13. Yes, but it's probably less about the team and more about me just being happy that baseball is back.
  14. Same. I realized at some point that I hadn't been paying any attention to the game or the commercials and turned to something else.
  15. Offer him a 12 year deal with 11 opt outs, that way the average is really low.
  16. I was sure no one was ever going to get 100% just because some jackass would turn in a blank ballot or something.
  17. Edgar Martinez Roy Halladay Mike Mussina Mariano Rivera - 100% That's it. Pffft. At least Edgar and Moose got in. https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2019.shtml#all_hof_BBWAA
  18. As soon as NE won the toss I assumed the game was over.
  19. I know the guy isn't a regular kicker, but at least just have him put the ball on the tee and boot it on the ground towards the other team and hope for a lucky bounce/muff.
  20. From what I remember reading, Heyward only has a limited ntc this offseason. So I'd assume that the giants may be on the list of teams he can't block.
  21. What's interesting to me is that, according to the data on Fangraphs, the Cubs shifted the least out of any team last year. And in 2017. And 2016. Over those three years they were first in DRS.
  22. You guys are overthinking it. The Yankees were going to non-tender him, so the Cubs got him for probably nothing to have a crack at re-signing him to a minor league contract.
  23. I didn't want to bring back Brian Duensing after his good year in 2017, but I feel better about Jesse Chavez. We should be able to bring him back on a 1-yr deal. He's durable and seems fine with going multiple innings. His control and fastball command is amazing (at least during his short time w/ the Cubs). He won't be as dominant as last year, but I think he's capable of having another good season. I was fine bringing back Duensing on a 1 year deal again, but giving him 2 years was unnecessary. Likewise, I'm fine with bring back Chavez on a 1 yr deal and see no reason to give him 2. Maybe 1 and a team option.
  24. Realistically, if we're talking Arizona, I wouldn't mind bringing Avila back to be the back up catcher. I know he struggled this past season, but with the right deal it'd be fine, even if he continued to suck and had to be cut. I'd imagine they'd be willing to take pretty little to move on, maybe do a lottery ticket for him and $2mil to offset the salary a little.
  25. Good news, according to the announcers in the Yanks-Sox game, the Yankees are now the Cubs.
