  1. voters can vote for multiple things.
  2. A couple/few years ago I was out playing with my parents and getting real frustrated with how I was playing, to the point that I really didn't enjoy going out. I came to the realization that I had two choices: stop playing or try to get better. Since I still wanted to go out an play with my parents, I decided to try to get better. At the time I wasn't playing or going out to the range much, so I started going more. And I started watching videos on youtube. Since then I've essentially re-built my swing and made quite a few realizations that have both helped and hurt my game. Where I'm at now really boils down to a few things. 1. Grip. I was squeezing too hard with my grip. Now I take a firm but not tight grip with my left hand and keep my right looser. 2. Set up properly. Make sure the grip is right, the stance is right, etc. The big thing for me is making sure to set my shoulders. I realized that when I came set, I tended to close my shoulders, bringing my alignment off to the right (and then would wonder why I kept pushing things right). I tried to fix it by opening my stance and rotating, but then I was over-swinging. 3. Slow down. A smooth, loose swing will generate more power and be more controllable. 4. Rotate my shoulders, not swing my arms. By focusing on rotating the shoulders through the swing, I'm rotating my core and using my whole body for the swing, not just swinging my arms. I still need a ton of work on my short game, but otherwise I;m playing a lot better. I usually shoot in the mid to upper 80s (I don't know my handicap, I should probably actually calculate it). The one part of my game I'm surprisingly decent at is putting. I watched the Phil Mickelson video on his short game and how he set's up putts, and it really helped. If you look at the stats for PGA golfers, it's something like within 3 ft they're like 99%, but at 6 ft it's 70 % and at 10ft it's 41%. I'm (obviously) not anywhere near as good, but within 3 ft I'm easily over 90%, so my basic goal is to get within that 3ft circle from wherever I am on the green. Just by doing that I usually am guaranteed to at most 2 putt, so I rarely 3 putt.
  3. I voted DH, but don't appose the 3 batter rule and expanded roster. I'm against 7 inning double-headers during a normal season and really don't want to expand the playoffs. The runner on second thing I was ok with in the minors for the expressed issue of ending the games, and therefore would be ok with it in the majors, but not as an immediate step going into extra innings. I would be fine with it if it was implemented after the 12th inning. (The 10th, 11th, and 12th played as normal, runner on second starting the top of the 13th).
  4. Don’t be afraid to swing like 75% of your full speed. Good contact goes further than bad contact swung hard And in that vein, shorten your swing. Do what you think is 75% of your swing, it's probably actually how long your swing should be.
  5. Ya know, I want the season to happen. But if it gets cancelled due to the Cardinals, that's a decent consolation prize.
  6. Kinda: Technically no errors on the Rockies, just stupidity by the Cubs and poor decision making by the Rockies. It was also the game where Angel Hernandez threw Steve McMichael out of the game after singing the 7th inning stretch and McMichael threatened to meet him after the game from the booth. (Edit: I guess Hernandez didn't through him out, Randy Marsh did, but whatever)
  7. One thing: Don't buy blades. They're the ones that look like they're made of a single piece (like the TM p790 for example). They allow for a lot of control and shot shaping, but trade off that they're very hard to hit well. Basically just for very good players. You want the regular cavity back irons.
  8. I wouldn't over think it. Regular flex steel shaft will probably be fine starting out and you probably wouldn't be able to notice much of a difference at this point anyways. One major reason not to spend a lot on clubs is that you may find that you don't really like the clubs you buy after a while and want to try something different. A few years ago I picked up a set of TaylorMade's (I can't remember which set) that I never really felt I made good contact with and never felt comfortable. I switched to a set of Calloways and found them a lot more to my liking and am still using them today. For now I'd suggest checking out some of the various websites (globalgolf, rockbottomgolf, callowaypreowned) for a good used set from the companies Splendid listed. I bought the previous TM set through GlobalGolf and my current Calloway set though callowaypreowned. ETA: The one thing I would give thought to is that if you're over 6ft you may want to try to find some slightly longer clubs, I'm 6'2 and was playing a set that was a 1/2 inch longer. When I bought new clubs I looked up the specs to check out the lengths and the ones I have now in their stock form were only a 1/4 inch shorter so I didn't worry about it when I bought them. Once you become more comfortable with your swing, a proper fitting and a new set would be the way to go. Splendid's numbers pretty much match mine Calloway XR16 9.0 - 260-280 TaylorMade Aeroburner 3w - 240 Adams Red Hybrid 3 - 220 (Got this from GlobalGolf a couple years ago for $20) Calloway SteeleheadXR pro irons: 4i - 205 5i - 190 6i - 180 7i - 170 8i - 155 9i - 145 PW (45) - 135 Vokey SM7 Wedges: GW (50) - 125 SW (54) - 110 LW (60) - 80
  9. Its a cool concept. I wonder if them keeping some of the imagery like that (like the feathers and the face paint by the eye) would not be enough to please those who want to see change. Many many years ago I saw a cool concept on sportslogos.net that was a Blackhawk helicopter concept. I imagine some sort of change womt be too far away for the Hawks. I know they used to have an established relationship with a local Native American advocacy group that kind of deflected some criticism, but sounds like that relationship was terminated and the current director has zero interest in establishing a relationship. I should note that i don't think the Blackhawks are going to make a change, but if they do it'll probably just be a logo change, staying the Blackhawks.
  10. If the Blackhawks change, I'd assume they'd just drop the "Black" and just become the Chicago Hawks and adapt a bird logo. This one was making the rounds a few years ago that was pretty cool:
  11. And the owners counter with 32 games that the players play for minimum wage, 2 teams make the playoffs, and they can change that whenever they want. WHY ARE THE PLAYERS TRYING TO KILL BASEBALL?!?!?!?!
  12. Sosa, Aramis, DLee, Bryant, Rizzo, Starlin, Javy, Arrieta, Z, and Hendricks But in terms of weird choices, Todd Walker, Grudz, and Geovanny Soto
  13. Lucky for you I have it on my computer, I uploaded it to streamable: [bbvideo=560,315]https://streamable.com/9d8fhr[/bbvideo]
  14. Or, conversely, the two of us who actually entered get to be co-champions Screw you, I entered first, I'm the champion.
  15. Doesnt look like Javy has 2b elgibility $75 Javier Báez SS/3B CHC Good catch. sweetpeteman - you'll have to edit your lineup accordingly. I made some changes. In my haste to make sure I don't lose due to BS again this year, I misread his positions. Actually was surprised to see he didn't play 2b at all last year. That being said, I don't think he qualifies at 3b either though. According to your rules a player needs 7 games and 63.0 innings. Javy only played 1 game and 9 innings last year.
  16. C Willson 75 1B Sano 100 2B E Escobar 100 SS Lindor 100 3B Vlad Jr 50 OF Harper 100 OF Soto 100 OF Betts 75 OF Trout 200 DH Bryant 100 Total 1000
  17. I'm fine with it.
  18. I think its: Bears Cowboys Patriots Jets Lions Jaguars Bucs that haven't played in LA yet.
  19. The entire rule is incredibly stupid. The runner should have the right to run to the bag. Your throw goes into that path, then you suck, deal with it.
  20. Semi-interesting fact: At 50 games into the regular season, the Nats were 19-31, the Stros 33-17. After that they both went 74-38.
  21. That was terrible. I don't know about robot umps, but foul tips will probably be reviewable in the future.
  22. Started this last year, might as well do it this year. The Angels fired Ausmus one year after hiring him, setting up them trying to bring back Joe to the org. Current/Filled Openings: NL: Cubs - Grandpa Ross Padres - The Tingler Pirates - Giants - Mets - the guy the Cubs should've signed in 2005 Phillies - Angry Joe AL: Royals - LOL Angels - Hippy Joe
  23. That's annoying. Held the lead for the last month and a half only to lose on a technicality.
  24. Looks like that was his first pitching appearance ever too. If it is the end, that's a funny way to go out.
