He was only like 3-5 ft in front of wall where he caught it, have to think if it didn't hit beam and dropped down it would of carried out.

Padres had what would of been a 2 run homer in the 9th to take the lead hit the roof and came down and got caught for the 2nd out.

I think if Hoyer has high expectations of Conrad, Kepley, and or Hartshorn to take an OF spot in 2028, he'll be looking at OFers who are willing to take no more than a 2 year deal to bridge them. I also think that one of Ramirez, Shaw, and maybe Alcantara too, could be used in a trade to get a pitcher, with the others staying to be more of a utility player. I dont think any of the 3 will be considered for an everyday spot in OF. I think we might see a couple trades to get pitching and possibly a hitter, they have 4 position spots they can add someone new if they choose, DH, C, LF, and RF. The pitching is wide open for changes, Steele, and Brown will be question marks as far as health and if theyll be affective or not. Then they basically just have Garrett, Cabrera, and Assad. Bullpen has a bunch of guys they can go with but they obviously can use some upgrades there. I hope they prioritize pitching via trades and FA, they have 6 committed contracts for 103 mil, and 4 players in ARB (30 mil estimate).

Busch will absolutely get another season, and if he struggles again, then theyll likely consider Hartshorn for 2028 if he continues to play well

Was just saying Hoyer wont move these guys but new management might consider it even if its for little returns. I get both contract are high for mostly glove first players, was just using their names as examples

I think itll depend on how many years hes looking for as possibly a final contract for him, if its 4+ i doubt the cubs will offer that many

I get the bridge and all, but offering everyone a QO to return just pretty much brings back the same roster. Guessing payroll drops this year because Ricketts wont go over 2 years in a row, bringing those guys back on QO just means Hoyer will have to go out and do more cheap dumpster dives on rest of roster to stay under

Hoyer wont do it, but if they did get new management I think theyd consider moving guys like Swanson, Hoerner, Amaya, and maybe Busch to get a different look

I was looking at both more so for second half of season if needed, obviously we hope the 5 starters that begin on opening day stays healthy and perform well. But yea, their prospects like Wiggins and Birdsell are more likely for 2028 rotation and hopefully not desperately needed in 2027

I think alot of what may happen this offseason will be determined by how long negotiations last with CBA, and outcome of where they go with payroll. Do they continue with tax thresholds, do they have a floor, and or ceiling, etc... I'd be surprised if Ricketts allows payroll to exceed over the Threshold again and go through a second penalty. I dont anticipate any major signing as far as someone getting over 5 yrs at 25+ per . They basically need 2 OFers, theyll need to decide if they want Kelly back at 7.5 mil or look for a cheaper veteran, Ayers will likely start in Iowa, so Amaya will be looking over his shoulder up until the deadline. I fully expect them to start spring training with Steele, Cabrera, Brown, and Garrett in their rotation if all are fully healthy. I guess itll come down to making Holmes a higher offer to return or looking elsewhere. Wiggins and Birdsell may be the top prospects waiting in the wings in Iowa. I think we'll see a handful of guys return to the bullpen, the biggest question will be do they look for a new closer and add 1 or 2 high leverage arms. Bench is the bench, hopefully they can add a solid veteran bat like Conforto was for them

All the assets traded for 5 guys, and they only use 1 guy for 3 innings so far.

Most of us knew if the bats didn't show up this series, the pitching wasn't going to hold down the Padres enough to overcome it. These guys either score 5+ or nothing, PCA and Bregman aren't saving them and theyre doing nothing. Hoyer needs to go for someone with fresh ideas on how to put a roster together, but that wont happen. I dont expect too much of an upgrade this offseason, but we'll see
