  1. I didn't realize all they would lose because of the QO made to him, so I rescind, he's definitely not an option here.... Corbin Burnes rejected the qualifying offer this offseason, which attaches him to draft pick compensation. So even if he wasn’t seeking a massive bag in free agency (we’re getting to that news in a second), the Cubs seem wholly unlikely to go there. As a reminder, because the Cubs were officially over the luxury tax last season, signing a qualified free agent would cost them their second *and* fifth-round picks in the 2025 MLB Draft (including those bonus slots), plus $1M in IFA bonus pool space.
  2. Giants, BlueJays, Orioles, Dodgers, Cubs.
  3. Just saying if Suzuki is adamant about not wanting to DH, which he will be doing alot of now. Hoyer could move him to add pitching and obviously depending on cost with Alonso, he could be signed to DH and be the RH 1Bmen to go with Busch. this being Busch second full season, who knows how that will go, if he struggles they'll have Alonso.
  4. That what i was saying, and it happens if Suzuki gets traded.
  5. Telling you, he waiting on Sasaki decision. Also, who knows, maybe if Sasaki goes elsewhere, they make an attempt for Burnes if he still available. I think Burnes with the QO attached to him will likely have to agree or come very close to what any team interested offers. Hoyer other options via FA if Sasaki goes elsewhere. Morton, Verlander and Scherzer on a 1 yr deal... Flaherty, Quantrill, Lorenzon, T.Williams if Hoyer just looking for low cost depth for BOR.
  6. Supposedly Dodgers are interested in Suzuki, I would be ok with trading him for pitching prospects in return. Then, they should/could look to sign Alonso for 1B/DH Or Maybe trade for Vlad for 1B/DH and if needed he can also play a little 3B
  7. It usually quiet for the Holidays with transactions, so if nothing happens with them in the coming week, I can see them waiting it out til the 15th or sooner if they don't feel like he'll be coming if they do meet with him.
  8. Im still convinced that Hoyer is waiting on a Sasaki decision before deciding on if he wants to add another SP . Not saying the reason is money, saying Sasaki is plan A and if he don't come, then it'll be plan B of who left via FA or a trade if they're to add another starter.
  9. To clarify why I said what I said, when the report of Arenado came out, I thought it was just coming out that he had turned down the trade prior to the Cubs trade. I didn't realize it was something that just happened.
  10. https://x.com/670TheScore/status/1869571082271027412?t=UFJTkdCRnxSmcBs6BrcueQ&s=19
  11. I do, at least I'm hoping he is Id rather see them spend money on a true TOR then trade prospects/assets on a mid SP
  12. Main reason cubs ended up with Tucker
  13. Wouldn’t that be the guy they got for Bellinger yesterday in Poteet ? Or you looking for another ?
  14. Yeah, im kinda leaning towards that we won't see any SP moves by them til after the Hollidays and til we see where Sasaki ends up
  15. I was thinking Torres the other day, then noticed he hasn't played 3B.
  16. You think they'd go with 4 lefties in rotation? Im not that high on Luzardo as some of you are, id prefer them actually getting a guy like Burnes, I like to dream big..lol
  17. Any chance they spend Bellinger money on Bregman or no way ?
  18. Bellinger gone for a spot starter/ bullpen arm. I think Luzardo an option only if they don't get Sasaki, but like I said, theyll spend on pitching, I just dont see them spending on another bat or at least spending more then 5 mil for one to just be a bench guy or a just in case Shaw struggles.
  19. I agree they could use another bench bat but i just feel like Hoyer going to go with the depth he has now there over looking for a guy to spend 5 mil on that wont make much of a difference and if he spends on any position it'll be towards SP and Bullpen. I think theyre going to wait on Sasaki and if they don't get him, then they'll look to see who available to add for depth before ST starts. Imanaga, Steele, Taillon, Boyd, Assad These are likely the starters, Assad will go to pen if they get Sasaki or add another SP upgrade before ST. They can always add more bullpen depth I dont think they care what their payroll is going into OD as long as it under the tax threshold. they have somewhat of a legit reasoning if they use the fact that they have legit players at every starting position and in rotation now, especially if they keep Bellinger.
  20. Shaw is likely going to get the opportunity at 3B going into ST with Mastrobuoni being the just in case for 2B if Hoerner isn't ready for OD. I think the money they have left to spend whether they trade Bellinger or not, will be towards pitching.
  21. They still have Mastrobuoni and Vazquez 🙄 But yeah come to think of it, with the uncertainty of when Hoerner will return, they may need to add a cheap infielder.
  22. Im kinda hoping they keep Bellinger, i like the look of the lineup with him in it and the depth it gives the roster. I dont think they plan on adding another position player via trade or FA. I think outside of maybe another bullpen arm, they are probably just looking at Sasaki or another SP if they don't get him.
  23. Wonder if Hoyer will look at Scherzer if he'll take a 1 yr deal if they don't get Sasaki
  24. I'm still waiting for that big move that he said was coming a couple years ago 😅
