  1. Telling you, we won't see any real good signing or addition to the team outside of hopefully Sasaki, who won't cost much if he chooses the Cubs. Hoyer going to add minor league signings and 1 year deals to guys that will mostly be for depth off the bench and Bullpen. The roster as is, is pretty much set for ST Theilbar a good sign for the pen, he had a bad 2024 but overall he's been decent.
  2. Arb raises, paying players no longer with team, extensions, 1-3 yr deals Cubs will always have a couple players making around 25 per, and the rest of payroll will be spread out amongst other different situations that adds up.
  3. If they get Sasaki, that would just allow them to move Assad to the bullpen and use him there and as a spot starter. He would make the pen much stronger. They won't need to go and add another SP, as they have plenty of depth in AAA in case of injury. I know they are approximately 45-50 mil under the LT now, i think that should be used more towards any possible extension and or trade deadline additions that will allow them to take on a bigger size contract if needed to add a top tier player.
  4. Yep, i think for the most part their position players are set, maybe they add another depth piece or two. Meanwhile, they wait on Sasaki decision, and probably look to add more pitching depth for the bullpen.
  5. Cubs traded Mervis to the Marlins for their 2Bmen to start season while Hoerner recovers on IL.
  6. Not now but they will eventually... They invested so they can turn a huge billion dollars profit when they do decide to sell
  7. They spend, it just that they're spending on some bad contracts and not getting the performance for the money.
  8. Eventually they will, probably within 10 years, but not now.
  9. Amaya, Busch, ?(Hoerner IL), Swanson, Shaw, Happ, PCA, Tucker Suzuki, Kelly, Workman, ?, ? Imanaga, Steele, Taillon, Boyd, Assad Hodge, Miller, Pearson, Morgan, Merryweather, Zastryzny, ?, ? Bullpen, Bench, and a Sasaki hope or a mid/backend starter
  10. I didn't realize all they would lose because of the QO made to him, so I rescind, he's definitely not an option here.... Corbin Burnes rejected the qualifying offer this offseason, which attaches him to draft pick compensation. So even if he wasn’t seeking a massive bag in free agency (we’re getting to that news in a second), the Cubs seem wholly unlikely to go there. As a reminder, because the Cubs were officially over the luxury tax last season, signing a qualified free agent would cost them their second *and* fifth-round picks in the 2025 MLB Draft (including those bonus slots), plus $1M in IFA bonus pool space.
  11. Giants, BlueJays, Orioles, Dodgers, Cubs.
  12. Just saying if Suzuki is adamant about not wanting to DH, which he will be doing alot of now. Hoyer could move him to add pitching and obviously depending on cost with Alonso, he could be signed to DH and be the RH 1Bmen to go with Busch. this being Busch second full season, who knows how that will go, if he struggles they'll have Alonso.
  13. That what i was saying, and it happens if Suzuki gets traded.
  14. Telling you, he waiting on Sasaki decision. Also, who knows, maybe if Sasaki goes elsewhere, they make an attempt for Burnes if he still available. I think Burnes with the QO attached to him will likely have to agree or come very close to what any team interested offers. Hoyer other options via FA if Sasaki goes elsewhere. Morton, Verlander and Scherzer on a 1 yr deal... Flaherty, Quantrill, Lorenzon, T.Williams if Hoyer just looking for low cost depth for BOR.
  15. Supposedly Dodgers are interested in Suzuki, I would be ok with trading him for pitching prospects in return. Then, they should/could look to sign Alonso for 1B/DH Or Maybe trade for Vlad for 1B/DH and if needed he can also play a little 3B
  16. It usually quiet for the Holidays with transactions, so if nothing happens with them in the coming week, I can see them waiting it out til the 15th or sooner if they don't feel like he'll be coming if they do meet with him.
  17. Im still convinced that Hoyer is waiting on a Sasaki decision before deciding on if he wants to add another SP . Not saying the reason is money, saying Sasaki is plan A and if he don't come, then it'll be plan B of who left via FA or a trade if they're to add another starter.
  18. To clarify why I said what I said, when the report of Arenado came out, I thought it was just coming out that he had turned down the trade prior to the Cubs trade. I didn't realize it was something that just happened.
  19. https://x.com/670TheScore/status/1869571082271027412?t=UFJTkdCRnxSmcBs6BrcueQ&s=19
  20. I do, at least I'm hoping he is Id rather see them spend money on a true TOR then trade prospects/assets on a mid SP
  21. Main reason cubs ended up with Tucker
  22. Wouldn’t that be the guy they got for Bellinger yesterday in Poteet ? Or you looking for another ?
  23. Yeah, im kinda leaning towards that we won't see any SP moves by them til after the Hollidays and til we see where Sasaki ends up
  24. I was thinking Torres the other day, then noticed he hasn't played 3B.
