That most definitely would be his reasoning if he chooses to bring in a mid level starter that barely moves the needle for they rotation. He'll tell everyone how the have a top guy in Imanaga and an Allstar in Boyd leading the staff and felt how they just needed a guy to be an innings eater in the middle of rotation to balance them out.

Right, would of needed Nico to get on any way possible and then hope Shaw could actually do something before they get to Happ who hasn't been all that great lately. So yea, they were in a tough spot in the order to hope for a positive outcome being down 2 with 2 outs.

Ehhh, I mean they had a 2 run lead in the 8th with the normal 8th inning guy pitching to hold the lead, so how they got there becomes irrelevant because they were in the spot you hoped they'd be in even in a normal situation. Keller didn't succeed in his part today. This said, I dont care for bullpen games and I really dont see much of an advantage in using an opener.

I hope and pray Hoyer is able to and can go out and get the needed arms for the rotation and bullpen because despite a couple individuals the offense can put runs up on the board. Let get at least 2 back here to have a legit shot in the 9th
