  1. 93 MPH off the bat, that's on the weather
  2. Yes, but conventional wisdom is that since the NBA tolerates and even encourages its players to speak out on topics that mean something to them, they're happier to play ball on that topic. And in any case I think that's an old rule, made before this stuff blew up, that could be changed. Also, it was collectively bargained rather than implemented unilaterally.
  3. Yeah if we're going bat-only guys, give me Larnach over Beer. Though in that scenario, I'd be mighty tempted to take Groshans, Naylor, or Thomas. Those are three high quality well rounded high school position players. Though if we take a college bat I trust this FO implicitly that he's a good choice.
  4. [tweet] [/tweet]
  5. I've been crazy pessimistic about Lester but with how good he looked last time out plus striking out Jose Ramirez just now I'm nearly off the ledge.
  6. This reminds me of when Brian Wilson used to make an X with his arms (basically the wakanda gesture) after notching a save, and wouldn't tell anyone why he did it. Then eventually some batter did it after hitting a walkoff against him and he cried about how he it was meant to honor his dead friend or some other made up horsefeathers.
  7. I'm Renterially racking my brain trying to come up with a good Julio Lugo pun
  8. There is no way Manfred allows real money to be used for IFA money. The league doesn't like (doesn't allow?) straight money deals as is, something that would directly show that MLB is underpaying IFAs by 10x (or whatever the real number is) would be a real bad look. It's hard to say what those slots are worth now. My guess would be something like 5x their dollar value. That wouldn't be too painful of a prospect, even from our diluted system.
  9. Bauer's also been a reverse splits guy this year, so that might have something to do with it.
  10. Sahadev Sharma had a thing in the Athletic about this today. The Cubs actually have been inordinately inconsistent this year. He went on to point out though, everyone horsefeathered about last year's team for the same reason, and overall they ended up pretty normal. It's probably just SSS, made even more noticeable by the histrionics of the beat writers. Edit: Beaten...by like 10 minutes. Dammit Bertz, this is why you don't write 90% of a post and then go grab a snack.
  11. If they think he's actually a CF I could get behind that pick. Even as a RF I might not mind it if he's under slot.
  12. It's probably an Eric Thames situation. Hot start his first time around the league, then settles in as an averagish player. That'd still be a win for the Cardinalss considering his contract, but not quite peak Cardinals Devil Magic. Also, here are the team ranks in wRC+ for his opponents to start the year 22 (Brewers) 22 24 (Reds) 24 7 (Pirates 3 (Cubs) 26 (Padres) 20 (Twins) 23 (Royals) Good on him for beating the Pirates and Cubs in back to back starts but he's mostly benefited from a soft schedule.
  13. Except for the game tying 2 out double in the 8th earlier today Fair. But his approach has definitely not been as good as normal lately. Like the first inning of this game when he swung at a pitch at eye level. He's not a guy who normally does that.
  14. Let's see how they manage to get out of this one without scoring
  15. Quintana's sitting 93 during this AB to Scooter Gennett. Fixed??
  16. I really enjoy the lengths Toyota went trying to hide that Jan is pregnant in that commercial.
  17. Anthony has been absolute dog crap with guys on base the past week or two. I think the crummy numbers (even though they're on the upswing) are really starting to get to him.
  18. Happ was pretty charming during that Weather Channel bit. So I guess it's like a Dexter Morgan thing where he can turn it on to lure his prey into a false sense of security?
  19. Not a weatherman and all that, but looking at the radar, it looks like this soft stuff will continue for a little bit, and then it will clear up for a little while, and then there will be one last band of bad stuff (enough to cause a delay I'd guess?) before it clears up for good.
  20. South Bend with 7 errors through 4 innings
  21. I could see trading for a starter if things don't get better (I think they will), but Hamels makes no sense. He has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as the rest of our starters. He's lost a couple MPH off his fastball, so now his walk rate is creeping up because he's nibbling, and when he does throw strikes he's giving up homeruns like crazy.
  22. Law has us taking Naylor in his latest mock. He's my favorite prospect in our range so that sounds pretty good to me.
  23. The fact that you think a 92 wins is something that requires an excuse is proof that you're either trolling or outrageously entitled. They weren't a good team last year. They built a huge hole and spent the entire 2nd half digging themselves out of it and benefitted from playing in probably the 2nd worst division in baseball. And then when they got to the NLCS, they were gassed and admitted it. This year they were supposed to come out hot and avoid all this, instead it's the same exact team. Quite frankly, I don't think the players have let 2016 go yet and that's a problem.
