  1. I know he had a HBP so it's sort of just semantics but this looks like Albertos' first outing without a walk since August 10 of 2017.
  2. And the Brewers have a pretty strong chance of getting swept at home by the horsefeathering Marlins.
  3. Awesome. Really interested in how long it takes him to get onto a major league mound. Over/under of around July 1st?
  4. So with day 1 of the draft in the books, what's the Top 10 look like at this point? Something like this? 1. Hoerner 2. Amaya 3. Marquez 4. Alzolay 5. Ademan 6. Davis 7. Roederer 8. Jensen 9. Strumpf 10. T. Miller That's...pretty solid. And there's even a few more guys I tried to find a way to put on the list like Riley Thompson, Cory Abbott, and Nelson Velazquez. It lacks top end talent but I think the farm's finally back to being in decent shape.
  5. Yeah those are not at all the same. Those two were picked right where they were supposed to, it just didn't work out. Abbot wasn't in anybody's top 100 that I remember, for starters. Little wasn't ranked as high as he was drafted either. Pretty much Lange was the only on who wasn't a reach. Irrespective, their track record with college pitchers is truly grisly. They really need to try another tack. Fair enough on Abbott, but Little was #18 on Keith Law's board. Not at all a reach. And taking a College Pitcher this high *is* trying another tack. The Cubs haven't hit big on college pitching yet, but with the notable exceptions of Lange and Little they've taken the quantity over quality approach. And even the higher value guys they've taken haven't been big time fastball guys like Jensen.
  6. Every time? When's the last time? 2017. Not that long ago. To be fair, they didn't exactly reach on the two pitchers they selected that year. Just bad picks in retrospect. Yeah those are not at all the same. Those two were picked right where they were supposed to, it just didn't work out.
  7. I think it's pretty obvious the Cubs think they can get him to have a consistently plus secondary pitch
  8. Michael Busch was announced as a 2b??? Keith Law thinks he's barely a 1b/LF

  10. from Keith Law's top 100. Given that everyone else has him as a 2nd/3rd rounder I wonder if they're saving some money here
  11. I really want Busch and I've heard good things. Even has a decent chance to be average in LF. He's a better athlete than Schwarber (not super high praise I know). Busch's scouting report to me reads like Michael Conforto. A little safe and boring but fantastic value at the end of the 1st round.
  12. I would love any of Busch, Hoese, or Misner. The latter two could easily be trash but the Cubs have earned enough benefit of the doubt with college bats that I'd be super optimistic.

  14. - Keith Law I find it really interesting how everyone seems to be hearing us attached to arms but mocking us college bats seemingly out of habit. I wouldn't be shocked at all if we go HS Arm then College Arm with the two picks today.
  15. Sign Kimbrel and trade for Will Smith: CL - Kimbrel SU - Smith, Strop MR - Cishek, Kintzler, Ryan, Brach LR - Chatwood That's maybe the best Non-Yankee bullpen in the league, and leaves Montgomery to be used either in the Smith trade or in a deal for some outfield help. And if Morrow were by some miracle to come back good lord.
  16. Jhoulys Chacin just walked in 3 runs, including Chris Archer, in the Brewers-Pirates game
  17. I had wondered why Buckner had stopped coming through each year to do an inning with Len and JD and sing the stretch. He's so young I never considered anything remotely this bad. Holy hell, poor guy.
  18. Espino was at 15, Malone at 21, and Priester at 26 Thanks, did he have JT Ginn in the first? He’s my next favorite after Espino, came down on Matt Allan No Ginn, in fact I don't even see him on Law's top 100. Allan went 17 to Washington and it sounded like there's a real buzz there

  20. I think most of the folks in the media know the Cubs' reputation of drafting advanced college bats and are just picking one of the best remaining ones around there. I doubt many of the media guys are working too hard on the phone lines for rumors on a team picking in the 20s unless they're like the Diamondbacks with multiple picks or they're a team that drafts interestingly like the A's or Rays. I think this is definitely the case. Law did have an interesting note in his mock though: That would be an interesting departure from past years. I wonder if with like 3/4s of the entire league seeming likely to go college position player this year the pendulum has swung too far away from high school arms and the Cubs are going to zig while everyone else zags.
