  1. I'll be honest, I'm not too worried about the non-Kimbrel parts of the pen. This period was always going to involve feeling out which of the ~15 guys fighting for a pen spot were indeed worth a damn. We've gotten some indication on the bad end (Norwood is trash, Underwood probably is as well) and on the good (Brothers, Maples, and Tepera all looked good). I think you can get by the next week or two by leaning on Wick/Ryan/Jeffress and whichever guys have looked good thus far while you continue sorting things out. Kimbrel though... horsefeathersing yikes. You can't put him in a high leverage game right now. Hopefully it's rust. Last year he seemed to be finding it right before he had the leg injury. Focus on getting him into a game every 2-3 days just to get work in right now, and hope he justifies giving him high leverage work again soon.
  2. This is pretty much why he was able to be had for an (admittedly fun) reliever. Sucks for the guy though. I feel like his game 1 of the World Series was some of the most impressive stuff I've ever seen.
  3. This should be the benefit to the way they aligned the schedule this year. You have to certainly think about doing that for the East, but the Central and West shouldn't really be affected. This does show why it was so dumb for the owners to bleed so much time. The season should have had more off days, not fewer. Build in a mini ASB, in case an entire series has to be postponed.
  4. I love having 2 switch hitters in the lineup. Really helps with matchups later in the game, especially with the 3 batter rule. Those last 4 can be LLLL or LRLR depending on the pitcher Yeah I love it. I think I want this as the semi-permanent lineup. Let Souza spell Heyward a good bit, and obviously lots of Nico, but give me this most days.
  5. Burnes has massive L/R splits, so good on Rossy here
  6. Man what a relief to have Yelich be at worst the tying run
  7. Looks like he gave up a strike to Cain, and there were no more borderline calls. So +2 on strikes, and 4/4 on borderline calls. I am really interested in this because if Willson is a good framer now we're gonna win like 45 games
  8. Very inexact, but looking at GameDay Willson has stolen 3 strikes, and there have been four pitches on the line, all four called strikes as well
  9. Ummm I think DeGrom's back feels fine. He's basically sitting at 99 and his changeup is 92-93
  10. Love that lineup. I'm irrationally confident in Happ this year so I'd love him at 6, but I'm cool waiting for him to prove it out. Also with his patience maybe right in front of KB and Rizzo is better even if I'm right.
  11. I think NESN and YES each have another team or two to help fill out their programming. I know most of the Chicago ones are taken, but maybe we see them try and get rights to the Sky? Or some of the college teams around here (that obviously wouldn't help right now).
  12. You could also add him for Phegly or one of the pen guys like Maples too. True. Yeah that works while rosters are expanded. But if he's going to be on the roster past the cut down to 26 it'll have to be in place of one of those three I think. Though that's a full month to evaluate.
  13. I like this quite a bit, especially now with the DH. I assume whatever the intake process is means he's at minimum like a week or two from joining the team? So use that time to evaluate Kipnis, Hoerner, and Almora and swap him in for whoever's in the least good spot? (I think we all have an expectation of who that is)
  14. Yup. I think the current format is perfect. I go back and forth on the DS being 7 games instead of 5 but that's it. Have you ever been watching game 4 of some random AL division series like Angels-Twins or whatever and thought “man, I sure am glad we are guaranteed at least another week of this before moving on to the ALCS”? I mean, I haven’t, but I also don’t actually like baseball so maybe it’s me. There's frequently at least one really good DS I want a lot more of. So is the an extra week of the good series worth an extra week of the duds? It's close, that's why I waffle on that part.
  15. Yup. I think the current format is perfect. I go back and forth on the DS being 7 games instead of 5 but that's it.
  16. more shot at getting extra money from playoff shares. Yup, looks like straight cash
  17. Like 17 Seconds I'm cool with this for this year but not afterwards. Curious what the players got out of the deal.
  18. A little more detail on the accompanying roster manipulation. I probably would have done Miller instead of one of the relievers, but overall pretty happy with this group
  19. I hope he makes the team. He's probably not good and probably won't ever be good, but if not now when the bullpen is gonna be 10 or 11 guys then when?
  20. I imagine this will be the primary lineup against RHP, with the #7 spot being a carousel
  21. Good for Mookie. Sucks the Cubs didn't have a chance, but realistically given that they're now all but locked in over the cap this year, there's no way PTR lets then do anything fun next winter.
