  1. Morel's over 60 PAs and still kicking ass. It's still small sample, but that's 10% of a typical full season so not exactly meaningless at this point.
  2. Yup. They projected as a 75-80 win team, and the underlying #s (I.e. controlling for their horsefeathers 1-run game record) think that's exactly what they've been
  3. I think it's time to start cutting bait with some of these fringy guys and uncomplicate that situation. I'd be fine with Hermosillo, Leiter and Norris getting sent Packing to make room for guys with an actual future. The prospects have to be ready. I get the Cubs aren't playing competitive baseball but let your young players develop and call them up when they're ready. Yeah, the relief guys we can probably push, and Morel has shown enough that he'll have to really nosedive for me to be okay with him going back down, but elsewhere it's less black and white. Also, there are *so many* injuries right now, they might have to just play 40 man games for another week or three. I'd love to get Kilian up ASAP for example, but if we have to e.g. lose Espinoza just to get Kilian one or two more MLB starts this year, that's not worth it. Teams are rarely so up against the wall like that, but I'd buy that the Cubs are at the moment. Things should chill starting with the off day Monday.
  4. Really curious to see this one. I'd never heard of him and then Longenhagen put him in his Cubs top 30 and really gushed about him over the winter.
  5. Really curious if the Smyly injury makes a Kilian debut happen, or if it makes the 40 man situation that much more complicated, so they have to just throw Espinoza to the wolves for another turn or two through the rotation
  6. Cole's been coming on a bit lately but wow. I wonder if this is a sign he's way outperforming the box scores and they think he's ready (e.g. Nelly getting the bump to AA last year) or if this is kind of a horsefeathers or get off the pot deal. Basically he's lost so much time he's gotta catch up or get left behind?
  7. Of the many things I love about baseball this recurring bit is damn near the top
  8. Ortega has quietly gotten his batting line up to a smidge under league average. Obviously with how heavily he's platooned he needs to be north of there, but with this hot streak he's on he should get there
  9. I wonder if Clint could start shifting to 1B. There's not much in the org in terms of RH 1B option, and he's plenty athletic, just kind of a putz in the OF. Plenty of those guys have shifted to 1B and thrived. Obviously he has to start hitting though for the juice to be worth the squeeze.
  10. They're really spitting on the slider now. Time to let Anderson or Leiter have the 4th IMO
  11. With all the lefties on the docket this week and the team starting to get healthy (on the position player side at least), feels like this week ought to be Schwindel's last stand. Produce or get out.
  12. The slider is legit too. He's not going to ever be more than an up and down guy, but he might be able to successfully funk his way once through the order, especially since the Brewers aren't at full strength.
  13. If I were Ross the plan for game 1 would be Swarmer for 3-4 innings handed over to Espinoza for 2-3 innings. If the game is close switch to the real bullpen, if the game is already lost try to have Leiter and Gsellman close it out. Get as many innings in game 1 as possible from the chaff. Hopefully it works out but if not NBD. Then I assume Rucker or somebody takes Swarmer's spot between games? Unless Swarmer is getting a start during the Saturday DH too?
  14. Very surprised by Espinoza, but he was on the 40 and might be able to shove if he's airing it out for an inning or three
  15. After getting on base 4x last night, Owen Caissie has his batting line up above league average: .242/.307/.398, 102 wRC+ In May it's: .316/.386/.544, 162 wRC+ And still the 3rd youngest hitter in High A. Jordan Nwogu is much more quietly coming on. Similar to Caissie he's a smidge over league average for the year, but in the last two weeks: .333/.405/.533, 158 wRC+, and most exciting of all 16.2% K rate
  16. AAA filler who they're probably very comfortable DFA'ing at the end of the week. Kind of surprised it's not Leiter or Menez, maybe they're just not as stretched out?
  17. Myrtle Beach only scored one run today, so I assume they were playing in the eye of a hurricane, or pitch black, or on some sort of dwarf planet with 10x Earth's gravity
  18. Ted Barrett had a dinner reservation apparently
  19. Morel does not look like a guy who plays 6 positions when he's playing those positions. Very impressive.
  20. Pretty sweet tightrope walk from Stro
  21. Holy horsefeathers that play from Stro!
  22. Yeah it's really bad. Cease is having a big time breakout, and Giolito is Giolito, but you probably have to feel worse about essentially everyone else on the roster than you did on April 1st.
  23. Given how depleted this Sox lineup is and how pitch efficient Stro has been we're probably on shutout watch right now
