  1. Soto is holding everything up. If Padres lose out on Soto I think they grab the Happ/Contreras package. If the Cards lose out they pivot to Montas, and are probably favorites there. Montas is holding up the entire SP market, and Jed can't deal Contreras or Happ solo until he has resolution on whether the Padres deal, so that's holding up a bunch more stuff. I think basically everything is in a holding pattern, and once there's resolution on Soto we see an avalanche of transactions. I am curious how much longer the dam can hold. If the Nats are taking their sweet time, at what point do the Cards or Padres just have to move on?
  2. Looks like Brett jumped the gun and Hosmer is now so bad he gets removed for defense late in games?
  3. Cam has the swag of a reliever too. This kind of felt inevitable The Bailey Horn move continues to look like an instance of the org over-correcting and leaning too hard on the R&D department.
  4. Any idea what the package going to the Nationals would look like? We discussed on here a week or two back that Baseball Trade Values is probably a bit high, but if you use that as a benchmark you're looking at two of Carlson/Gorman/Walker, plus two of Liberatore/Graceffo/Winn. It's gonna hurt, but that's the price you pay to build a lineup that's gonna put up like 7 runs a game.
  5. Impossible to tell if this is a good shake or a bad shake but does kinda look like resolution one way or the other
  6. Extremely minor trade, or ancillary part of a larger trade?
  7. Even if we agree that the value is right, I don't love this fit. A 1B who could be called up immediately is great, but yet another RH bat low on contact for an org with a ton of those already
  8. After getting on base 3x tonight Miguel Amaya is hitting a cool .360/.429/.560 in the early going at Tenn
  9. Cubs Twitter is getting really melodramatic about Smyly getting knocked around
  10. I'm very done with Rivas. I'm hoping that Mckinstry takes his roster spot for good.
  11. Kohl Franklin couldn't get out of the first again. Apparently hit 101 but it doesn't seem to matter
  12. Starting to wonder if Willson doesn't finish the SF series
  13. Martin has another year of control. I know FG says that but I'm pretty sure he doesn't. I assume tied to his time in Asia?
  14. I hope his defense plays up to the glowing scouting reports and not the poor brief MLB performance The org is absolutely bereft of LHH infield help and they're gonna have ABs to give the final two months of the year. This probably ends up like Deichman but a very worthwhile gamble. It's funny, I think a month ago Martin brings back a good more. But Givens would have returned much less so hopefully at minimum evens out.
  15. Yeah I'm getting here too. I could see him not getting any time this September for purely roster-management reasons (the 40 man is fairly tight), but I'm getting pretty comfortable with the idea of not adding a dedicated 1B this winter despite how horrible this year's production has been. IMO add at 3B, either directly or by adding an OFer to push Morel there full time, and let Wisdom/Mervis own 1B. Feels free to add someone who could play some 1B if needed, e.g. Joey Gallo, but don't go get a dedicated 1B like Josh Bell.
  16. Yeah he's one of the funnest breakouts in the entire system. I don't keep a running list of top prospects, and at this point I'm waiting for the TDL, but he's gotta be top 15 or 20 in the system at this point.
  17. I wouldn't want 100 games of this but I think I actually like this Apple broadcast
  18. I feel like that was a huge overpay for a mariners team that's at least into next year until they are truly threatening Their playoff drought is nearly old enough to drink, the rules are a little different for them
  19. Stroman's been extremely unlucky this year with an inordinate amount of baserunners coming around to score. He's basically trying to completely even the scales in this one start.
  20. Willson likes to stir the pot on social but given what we know is coming this might be a sign it's happening imminently
  21. Gomez is in the Bob/Bowden school of usually wrong but right just often enough that you have to pay attention
