  1. Bieber had an elbow injury last summer so unfortunately this didn't come out of nowhere.
  2. I think against Texas he looked pretty cooked while against the Dodgers he looked good but just not good enough to hold down their insanely loaded lineup. Padres next time up should be a good test. Their lineup has some stars but also some holes, so he has opportunity to manage the lineup more holistically and like pick his battles.
  3. I clearly missed an opportunity for a "Jefferson Rojas goes all Acuna on us and conquers 4 levels in one year" in the bold predictions thread
  4. In what is probably the hardest two week stretch of the season this was the also the most lopsided pitching matchup out of our favor and the team still put up 9 runs. This offense might be a big problem for the rest of the league.
  5. Yeah he oozes swag. I definitely believe he has what he needs between the ears to be a late inning guy. He just needs to get up from 20 grade command to like 30 grade.
  6. In the very early going Cam Sanders is throwing 45.5% strikes after throwing 41.7% last year. 45.5% is still not a ton of strikes, but it's not bottom of the league mark like last year's number and might be more playable with his primo stuff.
  7. I think I saw that he was already throwing to hitters during spring training. So he didn't start with an affiliate but I would expect he's going to make his debut not too deep into the season. May probably?
  8. I believe this matchup is the hardest throwing SP in the league vs. the softest. Last year Bobby Miller was the hardest thrower in the league a smidge above Hunter Greene. Hendricks was the second softest tosser ahead of Adam Wainwright, who obviously retired. This series is going to be rough, just take one of three and combined with the Rockies series you had a nice little 4-2 homestand.
  9. I actually think because he's a year behind the others and right handed Alcantara is more likely to stay. His minor league option status makes that not a slam dunk though. But yeah attrition and trades will clear this up. I expect Jed makes his big trade in July or this coming winter (Jesus Luzardo?) and clears out some of this inventory that way, and then of course others will inevitably fail. I also think because of this situation next winter Jed's in a good position to do a reverse of the Busch trade. Trade one of these guys who looks blocked out for someone more talented but a few years away.
  10. 106 MPH and 407 ft according to Statcast
  11. I am very very much of the mind to push back on the idea that guys don't care about the game just because they're not red-asses. But Rendon's on record about it so it's gotta inform how salvageable you think the rest of his Angels' tenure is.
  12. From reading various things from Dan Szymborski, it sounds like it's WAY more innings than you think before you can start trusting it. Like 500+ innings. In this case too like Squally pointed out Assad's not actually generating soft contact, he's just stranding a bunch of guys on base. So it's overwhelmingly likely that Assad is not one of those unicorns like Hendricks that can do this year in and year out. Which is fine, even once his ERA catches up to his peripherals he's still very valuable. No one better complain about a SP with a low 4's ERA making the league minimum that still has a couple minor league options.
  13. Sloppy win but hard not to contribute some of that to the weather Sweep is huge, gives the team a bit of cushion to falter during this stretch coming up. Go 5-7 or better during these next 12 and you're at least .500 with one of the Dodgers series and half your west coast games already behind you.
  14. Amaya for the second night in a row and the 3rd time through 6 games. Looks like him and Gomes are slated to something much closer to 50/50 this year and I like it.
  15. Yeah Jared Jones might be a thing but otherwise Pitt's early success is really just the Marlins being a mess with the injuries.
  16. Similar to last night. But against a righty should be even more able to capitalize on it.
  17. Going back to August 1st of last year Javier Assad has mostly been a starter and put up a 4.17 xFIP. The 2.62 ERA keeps getting people all gambler's fallacy-y but the evidence keeps piling up that he's a roughly average MLB starter.
  18. Snow isn't sticking at all and the precipitation is supposed to let up by late afternoon. I'd be pretty surprised if they don't get this one in.
  19. Little -> Brown makes a ton of sense. Little takes care of Blackmon and Jones (and maybe McMahon) the first time through, and then Brown can go ~15 batters while only having to face them once.
  20. Sweep tomorrow would be big. The two weeks starting Friday are arguably the toughest stretch of the season. Pick up another win against the Rockies and you could go 5-7 and still come out the other side at .500
