  1. Didn't the SunTimes say Pudge was a Cub too?
  2. Wow! A real rumor?! Wow... just wow. I've never heard of such of thing! ;) What else am I supossed to call it?
  3. Which Cubs people do you confer with, and which does ITI? Ah, the unknown.
  4. This rumor is real, people. Scout.com is a respectable site and has been around for a while. Obviously no one KNOWS if it will go down, but it's at least real.
  5. Jerry, My question is about my team, the Cubs. Corey Patterson reminds me of another top pick of the Cubs several years back, Shawon Dunston. He was supposed to be the next great one, yet he could never get a handle on his skills. He had a long career but never a great one. Do you think this is the case with Corey Patterson? -- Doug, Mountain Home, Ark. Doug, At this point, Corey Patterson probably wishes that he could have a career like Shawon Dunston's (18 seasons, two All-Star appearances, 1,597 hits). On the surface, there are definitely similarities. Dunston was supremely hyped as the No. 1 pick in the 1982 draft, while Patterson has endured the burden of great expectations as the third overall pick in 1998. Dunston finished with a .296 career on-base percentage, 1,000 strikeouts and 203 walks, while Patterson has a .293 OBP, 552 whiffs and 111 walks in his first six big-league seasons. As Jim Callis of Baseball America points out, the Cubs didn't do Patterson any favors by rushing him to the majors before he embraced subtleties like strike zone discipline or the art of laying down a bunt. As a result, Patterson appears to be on his way out the door at age 26. Dunston was 32 when he left the Cubs for San Francisco as a free agent. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=2236329 Sad...does anyone at home or in the media really have any idea where this guy is going to be in 2006?
  6. They made it seem more like: Furcal, Soriano, Lee, aRam, Mench, Barrett, Murton, Pie
  7. With incentives. I'm sure if you get a 2M bonus for NL MVP or something, and he did it five years in a row, hey thats 10M.
  8. 1] F. Pie +10 +10 2] M. Pawalek +10 +10 3] R. Cedeno +10 +10 4] R. Hill +10 +8 5] E. Patterson +10 +4 6] S. Gallagher 7] R. Harvey +10 +8 8] A. Guzman +10 +5 9] R. Pinto 10] S. Marshall +10 +5 140
  9. I've linked to this website in threads before, they're usually spot-on. Still, I mean, it's the Cobs.
  10. Did you Know? Kevin Mench has the largest head and hat size in MLB. He has his batting helmets made just for him.
  11. Don't tell me these things! lalalala Btw, XZ77, I love your avatar.
  12. MSN me or something if you want to banter, it's not what this thread is about. A lot of times I cant respond immediately either, I really do live in China.
  13. Well, I guess they had to pay more b/c it is Toronto. I think they had $30M to spend this offseason. Giles and Burnett are still possibilities. It's only $9.4M per year. The years is what surprised me, although he is a very good pitcher. I'd rather have him at 47M/5 than eyre and howry at a combined 23M/3 (7.67M/year), but that dream is gone. You're insane and you owe me for trashing my support on Eyre and Howry's deals.
  14. Because you're misunderstanding my point. It's just as easy for me as it is for you to go to ESPN and see that Burnitz is near the bottom for NL OF's in OPS. My point is he did what he was asked, and I'd rather have a whole team of players like that than Kerry Woods.
  15. Uh, I'm sorry? I will tackle your agument that it's not a team game - go ask Ozzie that.
  16. From the logic in this thread, it applies to anyone that's ever played major league baseball. Yea, I think Carlos Beltran lived up to his deal. Nice blanket inference. It's been pretty clearly implied that you can't blame the player for poor performance, you blame his usage. If that's the case, then it applies to anyone. I said this before and this is the second time I'm saying it - you don't get it. Baseball isn't about 'blaming' players for anything. For example, do you really think Corey was making an active effort to suck last year? Do you think Neifi was trying to not be 6'0 250 and able to hit moonshots? Baseball more than any professional sport is a TEAM GAME. We got what we expected from both Neifi and Burnitz, that means they were not the weak link in the team chain. It's just like if a hacker is trying to penetrate your PC. He'll go to port SS, wait, thats blocked...ok lets try port RF...no, their plan is holding up there...lets try CF....hmm, here's an easy way to get in and sabotage something. The key to any successful franchise is A+ player development and scouting, whenever you get what you thought you'd get for a player - that is a success. When players go to the DL, forget how to swing a damn bat, and these are impact players, it blows a shotgun shell hole in the plans for your team. Neifi and Burnitz at least made it to work.

  18. You still lose. Burnitz wasn't the problem either. Take a closer look at LF and CF before you point fingers at RF. You'd rather of had Sosa? I'm sorry, but I don't understand how a player performing poorly is excused because another player might have sucked more. I thought the idea was to have fewer players that suck. Burnitz didn't suck that bad. His defense was above average. Every team has a hole, look at the Mets and 1B last year. You can't expect greatness from everyone, I'd say the Cubs got what they paid for from Burnitz. While that doesn't make Burnitz a critical cog in the Cubs machine, it puts him above Wood in my opinion, and Wood made 4 million more than Burnitz. You can look at it any way you want to - the point is, Neifi and Burnitz did what they were asked and how many Cubs can you REALLY say that for last year?
  19. Let me point something out, having a high post count doesn't allow you the luxury of personal attacks.
  20. You still lose. Burnitz wasn't the problem either. Take a closer look at LF and CF before you point fingers at RF. You'd rather of had Sosa?
  21. Sorry, I don't pay enough attention to financial detail to remember if Neifi gets 2.5 or 3M. I just really don't care. He's the backup infielder. Meh. is he? i don't remember Hendry saying that. Hendry also said Sosa wasn't going anywhere - who goes by what he says. It's widely assumed its going to be Furcal/Cedeno or Cedeno/Walker
