  1. Burke is 25. Corey is 25. Who has had more success? You have prospect fever. We don't need a guy who walks 100 times or hits 40 jacks, we need a guy that can get hit by a pitch, beat out an infield single, steal some bases, get dirty. Wood to Texas wasnt the purpose of my post, the purpose is that Dunn won't help anything and Murton may be more beneficial - plus we wouldn't have to trade anyone.
  2. What lead-off/high OBP guy were you thinking of? There aren't a lot of them, and many aren't as valuable because of poor SB rates or very low power numbers. I'd venture that Dunn will help out our offense more than any high OBP lead off guy. Not thinking of anyone in particular, but I'd make the argument that Murton would actually be more beneficial to our offense than Dunn.
  3. Couple other sources confirm this - sounds like it's about done pending a physical. Will this really help them anyway?
  4. I'd trade for Baez but Huff's defense is awful and he's not much of an offensive upgrade anyway. Let Murton play, and Hairston is the only leadoff hitter we have.
  5. You missed my point. It's not that Burnett is better than Wood. It's that we're better with Burnett and a lead-off/high OBP guy than Wood and Dunn.
  6. Whats Wrong with 2 years 16M or something? (6/10)
  7. Ok so let me get this straight, Burke is a prospect even though he hasn't done crap at the major league level and is 25 ---- yet corey is always ragged on, a player who has had continual major league success at a time, and is also 25? You'll stop watching Cub games if Dunn is traded in division? Good riddance, then. I still dont understand why you all want Dunn anyway, he's going to play LF, so say goodbye to your boy Murton. A BETTER idea - is to trade for Burnett, sign him, and then turn around and deal Wood (dont give me the no-trade crap, theres places he'd go, namely texas) or Zambrano for a bat who can get on base and not K. Man, I cant beleive some of you want to add the bigget K'er in the ENTIRE MAJOR LEAGUES but in EVERY OTHER POST on this message board we gripe about strikeouts and OBP. How does a walk or a strike out drive in runs? He's the white Sosa.
  8. Wow, dude. I'm not meaning this as attack, but that's one of the stupidest comments I've ever read. It's the MAJOR FREAKING LEAGUES. Kids DREAM about playing in The Show. You CANT be serious. I dont care if the Rays lose 150 games, they're still in the Bigs. Tell that comment to a kid who followed baseball his entire life, collects baseball cards, played prep league, etc - you are out of your mind!!! I'm no moderator, but you should watch the personal attacks (i.e. "you are out of your mind", "one of the stupidest comments I have ever read"). People have been justifiably disciplined for less. Well explain to me the point of posting on a forum about major league baseball, if you don't respect the league? I am a mod, and in the future, please express any disagreements (or questions) you have without throwing in personal insults ... like you were able to in this last post. Thanks! Good luck to JoeBo, wish he could have recaptured the magic with the Cubs. Sorry, I didn't say he was stupid, I said it was a stupid comment and it was. I stick by what I said. I think a lot of people on this message board have Joe Morgan syndrome, and gripe about everything as well. That's not to say there's a lot of great, outstanding posters - and there are, thats why Im here. But I'm still sticking by my point that a lot of posters just think they know too much, and come on - saying someone shouldnt play for the D-Rays? Would YOU pass up a chance to play in the show?
  9. How could anyone enjoy an organization that is located in his hometown - but has publically questioned his intelligence, and has sat him in favor of much worse players, when his services (OBP) were exactly what the team needed?

  12. Hairston will be traded because the Cubs think he is an idiot. Felix Pie is probably the most likely guy.
  13. Matt "Redrum" Murton The name matches, and he has red hair. It's perfect!
  14. I think Barrett would be really mad/insulted if he read these boards and saw that Cub fans think he is an excuse-maker. You forget how recently he was wasting away in Montreal - you really think he's given up on this already? Please.
  15. Although I cannot guarantee that any MLB player has visited the site, I do know that some Minor League guys have visited. I wonder if Hoops actually emailed that, or if Rozner just took it straight from the "Could this deal with Texas make sense" thread in the transactions forum. :D That was my thinking.
  16. Is it fair to assume that since the media reads the boards, that some of the Cubs (even Baker) read them too?
  17. Your sarcasm is appreciated, but you missed my point. My point was that neither Hairston or Hollandsworth can really play an effective LF at Wrigley, so it doesnt make any sense for Baker to assume Hairston would be any worse in LF than CF.
  18. I'd like to see Leyland come out of retirement to coach the Cubs, he's always been good at handling a pitching staff. Pipe dream, probably.
  19. I think Everett is an integral part of the ChiSox, mostly in the clubhouse. I dont think the Sox are interested in getting rid of any major league talent that isnt 50 years old and whos name rhymes with Montreras.
  20. I am curious as to what you all think of Sosa being benched? He doesnt seem nearly as upset as when he was dropped to 6th last year in the order. Is it possible even Sammy the Warrior realizes his days are numbered?
  21. I dont think anyone can quite grasp the LF area at wrigley without a lot of experience, and that includes anyone currently on the team, even Hollandsworth. The wind is too unpredictable. It is really unfair to assume anything about a player, Baker should know this.
  22. side note: Vaball, as hard as it is for me to say, you're a good poster even if you're a Cardinals fan - its actually fun hearing a differnet opinion. But onto the subject, I really dont think Hendry would acquire Wilson. Most of the names I have heard in exchange are Cedeno, Hill, players the Cubs will not want to part with. Especially Hill, after the Cubs brass watching Dontrelle Willis have so much success. Has anyone counted out the idea that we will acquire a pitcher instead of a hitter?
  23. I actually really support this idea, and I adore Dempster. I just don't think its realistic, but still, it IS a good idea. I dont necessarily think acquiring Hanley Ramirez is the best idea since we have Cedeno however. Maybe Millar (LF) instead?
  24. http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/sports/baseball/n0703sosa.htm I wonder what he thinks of this? Again, I hate to sound so negative, but is there really any argument anymore that he wasn't on steroids? It's sad to see such a sharp fall from grace. 20 million dollars for a bench player.
