  1. Using "100%" when talking about anything concerning baseball is typically foolish.
  2. For the last time - what do you care about finances for!? We're owned by a multi-BILLION dollar company! Go to a Cardinals board of you want to whine and complain over signing the best FA available to the Cubs.
  3. What's wrong with Murton and Pierre? For crying out loud Mabry wont start you sensationalist! Even Crusty said on the radio theres about a 0.1% of that happening.
  4. Who cares? I really doubt anyone has any more information on Furcal than we do right now outside of the Cubs management. The whole ordeal has been going on for a while. Besides, you guys get ripped apart other places for being such sycophants.
  5. That would be me. Len told me earlier tonight that he's "100%" sure that Furcal is coming to the Cubs and it may not be announced until Monday. He is expected to sign mid-day Sunday. He also said Pierre is more than likely on the way. Does anyone else find Sunday an odd day to be negotiationg multi-million dollar contracts?
  6. I'd have a tendency to believe AramisFan if he says he talked to Len over PM, actually. I've talked to Aramis Fan outside of NSBB and he seems like a well educated Cubs fan...
  7. it would be nice if you would tell us why you think this would be such a bad decision. Because when you have the payroll flexibility that the Cubs do, something like this should be inexcuseable and totally unnecessary!
  8. Aren't the Cubs offering a 4 for 40? Not that I want Furcal for that kind of money but I would take the Cubs offer b/c of the year. Why...he'll just be a free agent at 31, who's to say he can't even sign a 5/50 deal after his 3/40 with L.A.?
  9. I met Andy Sisco at a Peoria Chiefs game (but this was back when he was the visiting team on the Lugnuts), and he refused to sign an autograph for my friend an I. No matter his future MLB stats, he's a jerk. Arrogant, too.
  10. No offense to anyone, but is this the stupidest thread I've had the bad luck of reading. Trade Lee!?
  11. Like every minor leaguer we have is ever going to see significant big league time.
  12. No, but by only backing "your" players on this forum, you're definately inferring that anyone else is pointless, therefore we most surely "have to get" Player X. That's my entire point - you can't approve the best canidates only, you have to be selective. I'm not implying anything so important to start an argument about, I just think you're too picky man! Really, I'm not sure what can be said to this. What are YOU talking about? Since when can we sign every FA we want thats on the shopping list?
  13. Granted I'm only drawing my theory from media reports, but I don't understand why the Cubs are seemingly OK with trading Jerome Williams. The kid has shown promise, hasn't severely regressed ever in his career, and is still under 25 years of age. Shouldn't this be exactly the type of player we're trying to hold on to?
  14. Not the same situation at all. Everyone in baseball, including the Orioles, knew Sosa would have a horrendous '05 campaign. You're kidding yourself if you think the O's expected anything more than ticket sales out of Sosa last year. He's washed up.
  15. I don't think the situation is *quite* that dire. I will agree though that obtaining Soriano would be a simply idiotic transaction. We were tops in BA/SLG, bottom in OBP - Soriano does not remedy the ailment.
  16. Oh, I agree. It's a pandemic way of thinking around here. 8)
  17. Look for the Cubs to get heavily involved in Burnett if we fail to acquire Furcal, IMO.
  18. I'd just like to remind you that in naming "his" players, he was simply answering the question you asked him. So, essentially, you're saying that by answering your question, he's saying anybody else is pointless. I also would like to point out how counterproductive the line "you can't approve the best candidates only, you have to be selective." So...we're *not* supposed to want the best options? Huh? Sorry, let me simplify: I think CPatt is too critical and selective in players he views to be possible future-Cubs. My point was that he needs to be more realistic, and open to the idea that an upgrade is an upgrade, and to take what you can get, especially in a market like this. I've supported players like Juan Pierre and Jacque Jones, two players I view as improvements, and both have been lambasted by Cpatt, among others.

  20. Not that I'm, gulp, trying to defend Baker, but I think he was saying Corey usually came up in a critical situation, i.e., the bases loaded OR a man on third with less than two outs. Due to Corey's mental implosion during the season, he had no capacity to come through in these situations.
  21. What? All of the players I listed at first have been mentioned multiple times in rumors, some(in the case of Bradley and Wilkerson) directly to the Cubs. AJ Burnett has been linked to the Cubs in the media, you think we'll sign him? Manny Ramirez has been linked to Seattle, you think they'll sign him? You have to be realistic.
  22. I like all kinds of players, out of the targets that have been brought up this offseason, I'm a fan of Bradley, Michaels, Wilkerson, Abreu, Giles, Furcal(not a fan of his price most likely), Lugo, etc. While I agree with each player you listed except for Lugo (I question his commitment), you can't be so specific. If a team went into the offseason saying "OK, we have 10 guys to choose from, and we need to sign 4 of them" - you have a very low percentage of that happening. I think you need to realize that you're cheering for the Cubs, and be more satisfied with any upgrade made. I'm not advocating being ok with mediocrity at all, I'm saying an upgrade is an upgrade - and there are outside forces in baseball that Hendry can't control.
