  1. Furcal is as much a drunk as Farnsworth, but we're welcoming him onto the team right?
  2. I think he did an interview with them. They got him to do another one too. I like that site, it's hilarious sometimes. Forum leaves a lot to be desired however.
  3. clearly vance, the problem was with the statement that Jehrico was "making it up as he went along." This statement is definitely inflammatory, insulting, and contributes nothing to the topic. I enjoyed seeing the scouting report but could have done without the personal attack. Piggy's k rates are likely what excites people here more than the odds being stacked against him, but I'll speak only for myself on that topic. Ooh, you know what. Sorry, Jericho - I didn't see that "making it up as you go along".....that is sort of uncalled for.
  4. Don't forget about Steve Trachsel - he was on that team as well. And for some reason, I always liked Jim Bullinger. Maybe it was cause he was so goofy looking. And was '96 the year that Castillo was an out away from a no hitter in that night game at Wrigley? I forget about Trachsel all the time. Hell I forgot what was going on between each pitch he threw. He made Clement look like the Flash. I assume a lot of other people here were at the one game playoff in '98 that Traschel started against the Giants. He had a no hitter going pretty late in the game but he was taking so much time that it really did not seem like he was cruising along. They cut off beer sales in the bottom of 7th inning of night games so I went to make a final beer run around the bottom of the sixth to be safe but was told that they were already done because of the time curfew had passed. Traschel and his slow pace caused the stadium to go at least the last three innings with no beer!! Is there any sin greater in the game?
  5. Jehrico you condescend to me all the time. Diffusion on the other hand usually posts pretty detailed and intelligent stuff, including what you're getting upset about. It was just a breakdown on his stats, man. Those stats on "Piggy" come really, really far from impressing me btw.
  6. I don't think I'd even mind Little as coach of the Cubs. It's certainly not a good thing for us if he leaves, good for him though if so.
  7. I sincerely doubt that someone who has only been around the board a short time would know enough about the board to make such assumptions. Kind of what I was thinking...
  8. This is our only hope - Giles really doesn't want to go to New York. Still, money talks in the end. Always. It's possible Giles wants a ring, and thinks playing in New York is the most probable way of getting it. Definately within the realm of possibility that playing in San Diego and Pittsburgh would send him down that line of thinking.
  9. It's cool. I think things are as tense here as they are in some teams clubhouses. Theres just an air of uncertainty over everything. Everyone fears the unknown.

  11. I also despire the home blues. Zambrano picked them EVERY TIME.

  13. I'm sorry. I'll run it by you next time I want to post in my own thread, Mom. Maybe you should if your post isn't funny or insightful. What's the point of this? Please just continue the discussion and let the sarcasm die. I'm not starting it. People have it out for me because I like Jacque Jones. :P
  14. Me too, I'd say he's a little bit more of a 'sure thing' than some of the other choices as well.
  15. I'm sorry. I'll run it by you next time I want to post in my own thread, Mom.
  16. You and me both. He needs to bust a move as smooth as Casanova.
  17. http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/58436.htm Not much meat to the article other than Cashman is talking with Giles. In the last few weeks they were saying the two sides couldn't get a hold of each other or something. Everything I've read makes me believe the Yankees want Giles, they aren't coming anywhere close to paying Damon what he wants, and they're scared by the market as they haven't got anyone they wanted so far. In my opinion definately look for Giles in pinstripes next year. Damon? Who knows. My dark horse....? Detroit. We better pray Hendry gets Furcal, there's not going to be much left.
  18. Why do you think Kearns is better than Wily Mo, out of curiousity? I was wondering the same thing. Wily Mo strikes out 900 times a year.
  19. Did anyone else catch Bruce Levine talking about a Walker-for-Bradley deal? I didn't hear it personally...hence why I'm asking. edit: and playing Walker at first. They aren't enamored with his 2B defense either.
  20. I'd trade for Bradley and Wilkerson and play one in CF and one in right. I really doubt we get Abreu, but that doesn't mean I'd want to settle for Jacque Jones. I'd rather trade for Mench or Ibanez than play Jones. Juan Encarnacion is likely a better option than Jones, and I'm not really high on him. I'd see if the Diamondbacks would be willing to trade Tracy before I'd make a run at Jones. Jones may be a nice complementary player on the right team, but there's little about him that impresses me. I'd almost rather have Jeromy Burnitz back on a one year deal than to give Jones a three-year deal. Finally, if we don't trade for Abreu, the best option is still to sign Brian Giles. Hell, if we can afford to piddle away 7 million on middle relievers on three year deals, why can't we pay Giles 3/39? There's no way I'd play Wilkerson in RF (or Jones). Bradley could handle it. I think Encarnacion is a better option than both Wilkerson and Jones. There's no way the D'Backs trade Tracy if they have any sense, I mean why would they - doesn't he have a few years of arb. left? I don't want the Cubs anywhere near Burnitz, he was serviceable last year, but he's getting pretty old now. We're the Cubs, we have money, if Burnitz is back we should riot on Waveland people.
  21. Maybe, I was just trying to keep this one centered on what's going to happen with the demise of Patterson.
  22. That's because white guys don't play as well in the sun. Do you think if Piniella had made that comment he'd have been fired?
  23. Assuming we don't trade for Abreu, who the hell is going to play RF?
  24. Ha, are you ending the conversation by yourself? Batting eye won't help you if you can't hit the ball for power, and I don't really see Wilkerson or Jones as having high range power. Jones does have, by far, the faster bat. Plus more speed, which again, will die out long past Wilkersons. I also severely question Wilkerson's ability to play for a team like the Cubs being coached in such a horrible system, Jones comes from a team with a quality farm system and a quality head coach. I'd trust him to be more consistant and able to handle the different surroundings that Wrigley presents. Batting eye will always help you. It helps you get on base. Wilkerson has consistently gotten on base at a clip of 100 points higher than his BA. It isn't a one year fluke. Take a look at the numbers: BA/OBP 2005: 248/351 2004: 255/374 2003: 268/380 2002: 266/370 2001: 205/304 What that tells me is even if Wilkerson becomes a 220 hitter which I doubt, he'd still get on base enough to not be a complete black hole in the line-up. On the other hand, if he's a 260 hitter, then he's likely to be on base around 370-400. Your speculation about organizations and coaching is just that speculation. That and 75 cents will get you a candy bar about anywhere in town. As to Wilkerson's power, in the three of his four full seasons he has slugged over 450. He doesn't have prodigious power, but he can hit the ball for power. In fact, he probably has as much power as JJ. Jones: 01- 276/335 02- 300/341 03- 304/333 04- 254/315 05- 249/319 While he's obviously under Wilkerson, unless he's hitting 2nd in the order, is nothing that is overwhelming towards one player or the other. Like I said, neither one has high range power. Wilkerson has a .717 career OPS in day games.
