  1. I'd like to see the hard hit balls come. Cubs have a 317 BABIP, so we're finding holes. The thing is, we're not making hard contact (24th in the league) and are making a fuckton of soft contact (3rd most).
  2. Will the projection systems ever believe in the Cubs pitching that has maintained unsustainable performance for the last 300+ games?
  3. Man... A lot of ugly batting lines so far. 5 HR in 8 games... really seems improbable with these guys. Rizzo, he looks like he's only interested in swinging at middle-cut sliders that are diving below the zone. Kyle and Willy are striking out a ton. Team wRC+ of 87, big woof
  4. Sometimes it's hard to tell by tapatalk
  5. I don't hate it but I would be more in favor of moving further back; enough to collect a future first + some. And is Richardson somebody we want to give 50m to?
  6. Springer has hit his 4th leadoff blast in the seasons first 8 games
  7. This Pedro Silverio cat has 13 Ks in 6.1 innings with just 1 walk and no hits allowed but he's a 22 y/o in SB
  8. They really need to give Javy the red light sometimes IMO. He is not likely to get a pitch in the zone once a pitcher is ahead.
  9. From my not expert analysis of Willy vs Javy there from watching these early games. It seems like Willy takes one or two wild hacks in an ab where it seems like he's just guessing FB and swinging hard no matter where the pitch is, but then can generally reign it in and put together a quality ab after his one guess swing. Javy on the other hand seems like the same old Javy. Agree that Willy probably needs to cut the O-Swing rate down but I don't think it's just entirely him not recognizing correctly/not being able to control himself I think part of it is him cheating. I agree with this that it's not a pitch recognition issue but rather that he might be guessing. Hitters do this from time to time but some more than others obviously. Willy has the track-record of a disciplined approach so I definitely give him the benefit of the doubt. Javy on the other hand... honestly I think he got a little too gassed up on himself and he's not thinking about just putting the ball in play at all right now. Joe and Co. need to get him going middle-away again.
  10. It's too early for this to mean anything but I am still going to mention that Willy is chasing pitches at a pace not far off from Javy and making contact at the same rate. O-Swing Willy 41.2 (59.5 contact) Javy 48.4 (59.4 contact) Again I acknowledge it is only 20 PA but that is a lot of chasing from Willy whom I expect to be a disciplined hitter. Love the guy but let's hope that's early-season over-anxiousness and that he can rein it in. He's a beast but he's not gonna get many barrels like that. However, Schwarber is filling the void Dex left with a sparkling 21% and Zo, Russell, Heyward, and Rizzo are all below 30%, with KB trailing by just a tad, and likely to tighten his zone significantly and join that group soon. Love when these guys just spit on pitches out of the zone.
