  1. Well, that truly sucked. I think that awful ending to the season is warping our opinions on Maddon. Yeah, he made plenty of mistakes and said some really stupid things this year, but I don't think there are many better managers in MLB. His lineups this year were really bizarre, he played Murphy way too much because he knew our offense was horsefeathers this year, his bullpen usage wasn't great but injuries and under-performance conspired against him. The offense disappeared for long stetches and I don't know if you can blame that on Maddon and Chili Davis. There is only so much a manager/coaches can do to get them to perform. I would bring him back and even offer him a 3-year extension. I think he's still a very competent manager, but needs more micromanagement and advice from above. They also need to tell him to be less candid on issues he quite frankly doesn't have a good read on. His take on Addison Russell was horsefeathering terrible and the FO was pissed off about that. Bosio got fired partly for his dumb remarks to the media. Anyway, there are plenty of problems that need to be addressed this offseason. I think Maddon is fine overall. I think Theo and Maddon have a good relationship so I seriously doubt his job is in jeopardy. EDIT: If we want to sign Bryce this offseason we have to keep Maddon. I know Bryce was happy playing for Dave Martinez and he is a disciple of Maddon's coaching philosophy. I'm pretty sure one of the reasons Bryce wants to come to Chicago is to play under Maddon.
  2. Tomorrow's game will decide between 27th and 28th. Game 163 will be part of the regular season record. Oh right. Good catch.
  3. http://www.tankathon.com/mlb The Cubs have the 28th pick in next year's draft.

  6. It depends on what happens in the postseason and how far they go. If they reach the WS there really isn't any pressure on Theo or Maddon. Even reaching the NLCS will satisfy most critics.
  7. Cubs are making the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. Sox fans are not the same as Cubs fans; we're largely indifferent towards them (which drives them crazy). Also, some Sox fans are more interested in the Cubs losing than their own team playing well. I don't know any Cubs fans like that... I'm happy that the Cubs are in the playoffs again and that the BFIB are left out. Doesn't matter how we do it (obviously winning the division is the best way).
  8. Man, Norris really sucks. At least Castellanos is trying to make up for yesterday's gaffe.
  9. With the Dodgers winning the Redbirds are officially eliminated. I'm pretty happy right now. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/chibbqking/status/1045791767935832064[/tweet]

  11. There appears to be some confusion here about the definition of cordial. Not answering a straight question with a straight answer is pretty rude. It’s the only reason we are at this point. Doing it because no one but myself cares that you intentionally warped my words for your own purposes would also not be considered cordial.
  12. Yeah, I'm hoping the Tigers can take at least one game this weekend. Not sure which game it is. I'm not counting on Jordan Zimmerman to do much lol.
  13. Aroldis Chapman, as a Cub, in 2016: 1.01 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 1.3 RA9-WAR, 0.6 WPA Jesse Chavez, as a Cub, in 2018: 1.25 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 1.8 RA9-WAR, 1.2 WPA Jesse Chavez has been amazing and I have no idea how he does it either. He primarily throws the fastball like 80%-90% of the time just like Chapman except he doesn't throw upper 90's/hit triple digits.
  14. Damn, I wished I thought of this. Well played Duke... well played. You should have started with this: Then end it like this:

  16. I'd really like to be a fly on the wall as Theo watches this non-sense. Theo doesn't seem like the type to sit back and let things be just because things are mostly ok. Maddon nearly mismanaged the team into a loss in Game 7, is clearly a current liability, and its only going to get worse. Yeah, but we're not firing him. That will never happen. We will offer him an extension at some point. I just want Theo to micromanage Maddon and make him more accountable. He makes bad decisions and doesn't seem to ever: A.) Admit they were mistakes B.) More importantly, learn from those mistakes. He isn't the worst manager or even close to that in MLB. We've witnessed so many bad managers (like Dusty) that I think we're overreacting a tad bit right now. Just needs some more guidance on lineup construction and micromanagement from above.
  17. I fully expected this when we hired Theo. He's done an excellent job so far. I feel a little bit bad we keep ignoring Jed and how he's basically an afterthought. He deserves some credit too guys.* *I have no idea how much credit Jed deserves for the Cubs success. I honestly know nothing about some good trade or move or acquisition he recommended. Maybe he's just "Turtle" in Theo's Entourage...
  18. I don't have high hopes for the Cubs in the postseason. If we can beat the horsefeathering Redbirds and prevent them from getting in I'll take it and be happy with that. Something needs to be done about Maddon. Theo and Jed need to sit down with him and tell him to get his horsefeathers together. I was fine with his stupid decision-making in the 2016 WS because we won it all, but it's clearly getting worse now.
  19. I'm actually liking this 7th inning stetch lol. Winning makes everything better.
  20. Okay??? That just means he's been on a lot of good teams in his career. It means nothing. Mike Trout must suck by comparison right? He lacks heart or that winning attitude or something you can't quantify... I'm saying those dumb people who think Heyward is a "winning type" ballplayer probably think Trout sucks (or is partially at fault) because he's only made the postseason once.
  21. I'm sorry, but horsefeathers the Cardinals and their fans.

  23. [tweet] [/tweet] 1. Adley Rutschman, C, Oregon State 2. Andrew Vaughn, 1B, California 3. Shea Langeliers, C, Baylor 4. Graeme Stinson, LHP, Duke 5. Josh Jung, 3B, Texas Tech 6. Carter Stewart, RHP, Eastern Florida State 7. Zack Thompson, LHP, Kentucky 8. Nick Lodolo, LHP, TCU 9. Alek Manoah, RHP, West Virginia 10. Bryson Stott, SS, UNLV Huh, I didn't know Carter Stewart is going to Eastern Florida State. I'm assuming this is a junior college so this should allow him to re-enter the draft in 2019. I'm surprised he didn't go to Chipola junior college or some other well-known JC.
  24. Bryant has been okay so far in September. Rizzo is also fine for this month. Schwarber actually has an OPS over 1.000 for this month somehow...
  25. Albert Almora post-ASB: .222/.259/.272 in 162 AB. 7 BB to 34 K ratio right now and 1 HR during this time. So, basically no power, no getting on-base and I'm not even sure how his defense rates during this stretch. Just his stats in Sept.: .203/.206/.220 so far
