  2. first things first: second: if that were to happen, what options do the cubs have? can they force him to stay home and not be a distraction? could the mlbpa step in and block the cubs from doing something like that? I think Theo has told Addison that he can't be with the team while this active investigation/process is happening. I'm not sure what effect being on administrative leave has on a player. He's still getting paid while he is away from the team I believe (not sure). If he somehow manages to get off administrative leave I don't think he's rejoining the team and Theo will just tell him to stay at home/away for now. He can't seriously expect to rejoin the team after the horrible post revealing what a shitty person he is. EDIT: Yeah, a player is still being paid while on administrative leave. Not a suspension so you don't lose salary or service time.

  4. Not-So-Fun Fact: Quintana in 44 GS has given up 110 ER in 248 2/3 IP during his short run with the Cubs thus far. That leads to a not great 3.98 ERA overall. The Cubs have two very cheap options ($10.5 mil) for next season and 2020 so maybe he can turn it around. It's still too early to determine the winner of this trade since we don't know what Eloy and Cease will do at the big league level, but it's not looking good for the Cubs right now. I'm a big believer in Eloy and think he'll be awesome. Not as big a fan of Cease, but he had a good year in the minors.
  5. [bbvideo=853,480] [/bbvideo] Not the best video honestly. Definitely works at a quick pace and attacks hitters (which scouts love). Someone told me that his curveball occasionally (not often) flashes not just plus, but plus plus. Really good curveball some nights. It will be important to see or read how he bounces back from missing so much time. I'm not concerned with his health. He has a good clean delivery and it looks like he doesn't overexert himself on the mound. Then again every pitcher can go down in flames and get hurt. I remember reading Prior had "perfect" pitching mechanics and would never break down. You never know...
  6. I'm bothered by the part where he says, "isn’t doing their investigative work very good" in his quote. Definitely sounds like Trump right there. I'm glad you do your baseball work very good, Rizzo. http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/2012/08/well_done_sir.gif
  7. Yeah, I mean it's pretty easy to get a scouting report on Alzolay and find out why he's so highly regarded. There is video available. Lots of resources all over the internet. Now, is TBS Playoffs Insider asking why we like Alzolay and think he's the top pitching prospect in our system?
  8. Russell and Chapman and Lackey? Who else?
  9. I will say I've heard from multiple people that Rizzo is a genuinely good person. I saw the video of him talking to reporters and it's not a great response. His quote is bad, but again he isn't a trained public speaker and probably didn't think about what he should say. He should probably state that he'll read the post from Addison's ex-wife and ask Cubs officials about the matter. Maybe mention how baseball takes DV very seriously and how it's not acceptable. Rizzo mentioned how it's a tough situation (duh). Still, I don't think we should be too hard on Rizzo. Now, about Maddon's take...

  11. I could see Trump tweeting the same exact quote. I'm bothered by the part where he says, "isn’t doing their investigative work very good" in his quote. Definitely sounds like Trump right there. I'm glad you do your baseball work very good, Rizzo.
  12. At least Epstein made a better comment about this fucked up situation. I'm sure he would've said more about this situation in private. I'm sure he thinks Addison's take is BS and that he's lying.
  13. This whole situation sucks. The Rizzo comment sounds bad and probably someone from the Cubs should coach the players on how to respond to this shitty situation. Definitely, do NOT say "We support Russell during this difficult time" or something to that effect. I have no idea what happens to Russell going forward. I don't think we non-tender him, but he's definitely getting moved this offseason now. Probably similar to the Aroldis Chapman trade (sell super low).
  14. He's got a nice smile, enjoys long walks on the beach watching the sunset, calls his folks at least once a week, volunteers at a soup kitchen when he can, hates avocado toast... Lots of things.

  16. Yeah, I saw his list. It's not bad, and if he really does have an inside source then he probably knows more about some of these prospects than anyone here. I don't like DJ Wilson and think he's way overrated. He has great tools, but he'll never turn them into real baseball skills/ability. I think Christopher Morel should be higher and has the potential to blow up and become a Top-10 talent in our system. His Top-10 part is very solid. Mostly agree on that. Roederer got some Benintendi comps from scouts that really liked him, which has me super excited. That's high praise...
  17. This seems REALLY generous for what will be a 35-year old pitcher who has been mostly serious butt for his two most recent seasons. I believe in him and think he'll do really well next year (barring injuries). I'm pretty sure pitching in Texas really hurt him and I think he's fixed some mechanical problems since getting here. I have confidence in my prediction, but I also believed in Chatwood before the season started so I don't have a perfect track record.
  18. I'm still really high on Hamels. I think he's only had one really bad start for the Cubs (last start obviously). No one expected him to continue dominating with a sub-2 ERA. He's changed the way he's pitched since coming here and his fastball has ticked up. His changeup is still really nasty when he's on. I want the Cubs to bring him back next season and think it would be a mistake to not do so. If he is brought back I expect a great season from him -- 3.2-3.5 ERA, 180-200 IP, 8.2 K/9, and 1 or 2 CG (not a huge deal, but helps save the BP). Pretty sure we're bringing him back.
  19. Best Pitcher: RHP Keegan Thompson Keep an Eye On: LHP Brailyn Márquez Wow, Marquez is already 225 lbs. according to McLeod. If that's right, then he has a decent chance of being 240 or more when he reaches his mid-20's. I was wrong on that. I really thought he was closer to 190-195. He didn't look that big in the video or seem overweight. If you're trying to picture what Marquez would look like at 240 or around there, well picture Jon Lester. He's listed as 6'4" and 240 lbs. (probably weighs more than that).
  20. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of our fan base thinks Strop sucks, or at the least is nothing special. yea, I'd be stunned if Strop is thought of much at all outside of NSBB'ers. #5 might be John Lackey because of his legendary mound melt down in game 2 (I think it was game 2) last year, but not in a good way. Yeah, I was talking about how they'll rate all the Cubs pitchers that are viewed favorably lol. Yeah, Lackey makes the list if we're talking about Cubs pitchers that sucked. Honestly, most of the crappy pitchers will fade from memory. We won't even remember them in 10-15 years. Now, that probably won't happen with Lackey... ---- Strop has been around for a few years and was a key part of the turnaround for this franchise. He's been awesome every year he's been here. Fans are noticing how important he is with Morrow out. People were ripping Maddon on sports talk radio for letting him hit and get hurt. His profile has certainly increased this year. I think Cubs fans will remember him fondly in the future (he'll show up for every Cubs Convention and I wouldn't be surprised if he joins the organization after he retires in some coach/mentor role).
  21. Probably in 10-15 years they'll be rated this way (in the minds of Cubs fans). Cubs pitchers from this era: 1. Arrieta 2. Hendricks 3. Lester 4. Hamels (if he has a legendary postseason run that leads to a WS) 5. Strop
  22. I'm not positive about this, but I feel like Hendricks will be more fondly remembered than Lester in 10-15 years by Cubs fans. I certainly enjoy watching Hendricks more and appreciate what he does in such a unique way. I think he'll get his due from Cubs fans down the road.
  23. [tweet] [/tweet] This is awesome. I'd love to frame this and hang it up someday.
