  1. You guys remember Mike Olt? Do you really want this guy as a hitting instructor? Well, good luck to him. [tweet] [/tweet]
  2. [tweet] [/tweet] Interesting...
  3. Not Cubs related, but if Nate Pearson ends up being really good and Alex Lange & Brendon Little disappoint I'm going to be pretty pissed. Too early to know what will happen and pitching prospects are fickle creatures. Still, 100 is 100: [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  4. I'm surprised he doesn't remember Jerry Krause. He famously started off as a baseball scout before becoming the GM of the Chicago Bulls and leading them to 6 rings, with the help of MJ, Pippen and Phil Jackson of course. He was a decent basketball scout and was one of the key influences behind scouting and drafting Toni Kukoc. He then transitioned back to being a baseball scout after he was fired. Lol. Kyler Murray looked great in the Texas-Oklahoma game last week and I think he could go in the top 3 rounds of the NFL draft. They were discussing this in the latest UMP podcast on Fangraphs. I'm pretty sure he has a firm commitment to the A's, but I'd be really nervous every Saturday during college football season. the local media has been discussing this all week, but they capital-S SUCK, and have made little sense. But it's interesting to think about. He has a $5 million commitment from the A's. And if he takes that path he goes to A ball and is committed to riding buses for at least two years, making piss money. If he felt like he'd be drafted in the top 3 rounds, he'd get a signing bonus of about $900,000 and a four-year non-commited contract worth about $4 million (Mason Rudolph, 3rd round pick last year, got 920k and a 4-year $3.98 mil deal) baseball seems like the best bet. His odds of making a dent in the majors and getting a big contract are low, but so is the risk of injury and if he can hit at all, with his speed he'll linger for a long time. In the NFL, he also has a very very small chance of being a difference-maker because of his size. But he has the arm and can make the throws and he has athleticism that's elite even among the NFL elite. And even though injury risk is high in the NFL, they are doing all they can to legislate QB injuries out of the game. He basically has one hurdle to making big NFL money and playing at least semi-long term - his size. If he can overcome that, and no one in modern NFL history has played QB at his size, he's gonna make big money. There are many many more hurdles to him becoming a big baseball player. Isn't Russell Wilson the same size? I looked it up and it says he's 5'11" and that sounds about right. Now, obviously Wilson is unique and teams want a QB with size. I think Drew Brees is also under 6', but he's also an exception. I believe Kyler Murray is 5'10" so he's shorter than Wilson and Brees, but not by much. He's definitely a better athlete than those two. I'm not an expert or well-versed in scouting football prospects or how a player will adapt going from college to the pros. You probably know more than me about his chances (in professional football). I like Murray and think it's possible he could succeed in either sport, but I think he has a much better chance in baseball. He could be an elite CF if he puts it all together and develops as a hitter. He should be a legit 5-tool player if he reaches his considerable upside. Great case study for sure. I think Eric or Kiley said he could develop into a 4 or 5 WAR player.
  5. [tweet] [/tweet] He starts talking to Nico Hoerner at the 19:26 mark in the podcast. Nico says he feels great and is fully healthy now. Cubs have him doing pilates. He sounds really confident and is up for moving around and playing different positions.
  6. This doesn't really relate to the Cubs or their farm system, but I enjoyed these questions in his latest chat on Fangraphs: I'm surprised he doesn't remember Jerry Krause. He famously started off as a baseball scout before becoming the GM of the Chicago Bulls and leading them to 6 rings, with the help of MJ, Pippen and Phil Jackson of course. 7. [tweet] [/tweet] I don't think this has been shared here. Yeah, I love Baez but I'm not buying that product.
  8. Don't know much about him but I'm all on board. He's from my hometown of Carbondale, Il.
  9. Hopefully, that reliever is more Jesse Chavez and less Brandon Kintzler.

  12. [tweet] [/tweet] That's pretty good.
  13. I don't remember this...
  14. [tweet]https://twitter.com/2080adam/status/1049354814793109509[/tweet] We know the Cubs like UVA players/pitchers and scout them well. He was eligible for this year's draft, but sent a letter asking teams not to draft him. I think he could've gone in the late 1st round/early-mid 2nd round area. He'll be eligible for the 2021 draft. I think his fastball was better in HS. That's not great velocity for a SP, but maybe he's just taking it easy and building up arm strength. Should be a high draft pick in a few years.
  15. Yeah, LaVine looks great so far in preseason. I think his new deal won't be as bad as some people claimed earlier this summer. Jabari looks bad and I don't know why we signed him. We could have used that cap space to take a bad contract and get a draft pick/young asset. I'm really down on Jabari and also think he fits better with the second unit.
  16. [tweet] [/tweet] This is probably the best deal in the BR article. I thought a 1-for-1 swap of Khris Middleton for Jimmy Butler was the best deal out there, but apparently Mil turned it down.
  17. Man, Gio in game 1 and Miley in game 2. How did these losers reach the NLCS. The Dodgers are going to destroy them. They’re destined to just keep winning despite it making no sense. No reason to think otherwise. I think they're going down this series. My hope is Dodgers vs. Red Sox in the WS with the Red Sox prevailing. They might need to do something about David Price if they want to get there. Move him to the bullpen or limit how far he goes in starts. Dude looks bad right now.

  19. You didn't know about the Jimmy Butler drama? It's pretty crazy. He almost got traded to Miami a few days ago, but the deal fell apart. I don't think it'll last too much longer though.
  20. That's not bad lol.
  21. how are you responding if you have him muted? I saw what he wrote. I'm pretty sure he has me on mute and sees what I wrote as well. Nothing wrong with that.
  22. Just wanted to put everything you wrote towards me out there. It's over. I won't bring it up anymore.
  23. I do have him on ignore. You're right. I won't bring it up again.
  24. I don't know what his problem is or why he feels the need to respond to whatever I wrote in the past. Dude is a weird horsefeathers. Frankly, I generally ignored whatever he wrote in the minor league musings or draft threads because he isn't that knowledgable. That's the honest truth. I didn't really care that he got confused about trading Addison Russell for a similar package to what Washington got in that 3-team Wil Myers/Steven Souza trade. I just found it amusing is all.
