  1. So the only teams I think are worse than the Bulls, and it's hard to tell with injuries decimating the team right now, are the Hawks, Kings, Knicks and Nets? I think Dallas is better than us this year. Phoenix is better and has the #1 pick (Ayton has been amazing so far) playing for them. Orlando is stuck in perpetual rebuild mode, but they have talent. Honestly, it doesn't matter as much since the lottery odds aren't much higher for the team with the worst record now. As long as we finish with a bottom-5 record we have a good chance of landing a top pick. This draft class doesn't have a super talent at the top so teams shouldn't be blatantly tanking like last season. That said, the Bulls should still be tanking.
  2. Clickbait. Any mock before May 1st is clickbait. Yeah, I agree with that idea, but there are good useful mock drafts before May 1st. I think in the spring once college baseball gets going and once more information is available then the mock drafts start becoming better. This one is pretty good, and that's why I included it here. I've seen some really terrible ones online (or at least I think they're terrible and way off).
  3. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] Man, even the sound of the ball coming off his bat sounds different. He's such an amazing hitter. He's hitting .458/.491/.604 with 5 BB and only 1 K so far.
  4. [tweet] [/tweet] I don't understand the point of doing a mock draft this early, but they're fun to look at I guess. This one isn't terrible and they contain short blurbs on the players. In this mock draft they have the Cubs taking 3B/1B Brett Baty. Yes, his last name is Baty and I know next to nothing about this prospect. [tweet] [/tweet]
  5. I wonder how high his hit tool will be rated going forward? It should be his best tool. It should be a 6. It's a great swing and he's decently fast. Should get a good amount of infield hits. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018/?list=ss So according to MLB.com's Top SS prospects list they have Fernando Tatis Jr., Royce Lewis, Brendan Rogers, Andres Gimenez all rated as 60 for the hit tool. Bo Bichette actually has the highest rated one among SS prospects at 70. They have Nico Hoerner rated as a 55 right now, but that should move up. Not many SS prospects with a better hit tool.

  7. https://www.mlb.com/news/do-the-padres-or-braves-have-better-prospects/c-299691916?tid=151437456 [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/hecht74/status/1054440136111460354[/tweet] Not sure where Hoerner will start next season. He's doing really well in the AFL and I think he could handle starting the year at AA. [tweet] [/tweet] Not Cubs related, but I wanted to include this Q&A. So I'm not a big fan of Jonathan Mayo. He's okay. He makes a pretty bad blunder here when talking about 1B prospect Evan White. Says he has a "pretty left-handed swing"... umm, the dude bats righthanded. Like that's a pretty well-known fact. I like Evan White and think he would be a good player under someone like Maddon because he's a plus-defender at 1B and also capable of playing the OF, sort of like Cody Bellinger. Their swings are very different and I think Cody Bellinger is by far the better hitter. I believe Cody Bellinger is the better defender as well.

  9. 1. It doesn't matter! Using Jason Heyward's 2013-2015(which is like 75% of that 6 year span WAR) as anything representative of what Heyward is going to do in 2019 and beyond is crazy. That ship has sailed, Heyward is not that player any more, we have 3 years and 2000ish plate appearances as proof. 2. bWAR is simply less accurate. For pitchers it can be a worthy counterpart to fWAR because it is more descriptive while fWAR is more predictive(e.g. ERA v. FIP), but for hitters there's no reason to use anything you see on BR outside of using the DRS defensive values for comparison/validation to what UZR is saying. I’m not arguing that Heyward will play up to his best years. I’m fearful that the last two years of Harper are more representative of his future than his MVP year. Dude, just stop trying to make this comparison. If you have problems with Harper then just state that and mention how you think he'll be overpaid. Fine. That's your opinion. Making a comparison between Heyward and Harper really undercuts whatever point you're trying to make. WAR is great and very useful in context, but you also need to check other metrics and the good old "eyeball test". Harper looks infinitely better at the plate and has a much better swing, batspeed and power.
  10. I horsefeathering hate Duke and can't stand their fanbase... I really don't understand why he mentioned that like it's some kinda perk or bonus for acquiring Stroman.
  11. I think Keith Law saw him early during the AFL when he was scuffling a little bit? I think he's actually well-built and pretty muscular... He's not tall, but I wouldn't call him small. He's definitely not Altuve or Pedroia or Nick Madrigal. I agree that he can be a high-average/high-OBP guy, but I also think he could stick at SS. He will play 2B for us because we have Baez, but I think he's capable of playing SS. He might develop power as well, but I'm less certain of that because of his approach and how he uses his hands. He adjusts to the ball in mid-air really well, but he hits line drives and doesn't really get under the ball or hit it at a high launch angle from what I've seen. Yeah, I definitely think he'll hit for a good average. Just not sure about the power right now. That's just my opinion.
  12. Yeah, I heard some scouts have questioned Nico's arm strength, but there are many SS that have gotten by with a 5 arm. He has good range and it seems like he has good hands. David Eckstein had probably a 4/below-average arm and it worked for him. Also, no one cares about the weird arm stroke if your throws are accurate and you have good carry. I mean Russell also has kind of a weird arm stroke or motion. Scouts actually like it when you can throw accurately from weird angles/arm slots.
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] FYI, they have Nico Hoerner rated about the same. He's basically like a 45+ FV and he'll probably be moved up to 50 FV pretty soon.
  14. Not trying to defend the Bulls medical staff, but it's very possible to continue playing with a strained MCL/ACL and not notice it or have it affect you. Some players continue playing with a torn MCL/ACL if the inflammation and pain isn't too bad. It sucks that he's out now because Cam Payne is horsefeathering terrible, but I want the Bulls to lose. We need to emulate "The Process" and tank -- at least for one more year.
  15. There is so much content available now on draft prospects. It's kinda crazy. The 2018 WWBA World Championship event just took place and there were so many elite HS players/pitchers. This kid seems pretty interesting, but I could list a bunch right now. Good, simple delivery and I think he's very projectable: [bbvideo=853,480] [/bbvideo] Rece Hinds is already a top prospect leading up to the 2019 MLB draft. Tremendous power, but he has a good swing as well: [bbvideo=853,480] [/bbvideo]
  16. That's a good point. The Orioles worked hard to get that additional pool money. I agree there is no way they can spend it all now. Just trading it away might make them look really foolish, but they're at least getting some value back. Yeah, even $1 mil can go really far for the Cubs if they can find some young talent in Mexico/Venezuela/DR. We had a good pipeline going in Mexico. I'd be fine trading Duane Underwood or maybe even Dillon Maples for some additional IFA funds (only if our scouts feel like there is good talent still available/signable).
  17. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. Nico seems to have adapted to the better pitching in the AFL. Not saying I would do this or Cubs management, but he could start next season at AA. Most likely he starts at High-A alongside Ademan and Amaya.
  19. LaVine is playing like a man on a mission. He's been outstanding so far. I think he's even committed to playing hard on defense. I want the Bulls to lose a lot this year. We need another high draft pick and to get lucky in the lottery. I know Bulls management wants to win this year, but that's a mistake. We need to collect assets and draft picks to swing a big trade for a star player down the road. I doubt we'll be signing one anytime soon unless Jimmy really wants to come back (doubt it). Not sure I even want Jimmy back at this point.
  20. [tweet] [/tweet]Seriously lol? Lost his spot to MJ?
  21. [tweet] [/tweet] Well, they certainly have interesting names in the Jimenez household.
  22. [tweet] [/tweet]So the Cubs drafted players with the last name Hoerner and Roederer. This Fitterer guy seems to fit (no pun intended) that pattern... No clue where he's rated among prep prospects. Good arm and a nice delivery. EDIT: He's committed to UCLA so I'm sure Raisin knows more about him.
  23. [tweet] [/tweet] http://www.armchairanglophile.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/ouch-gif-3.gif I know he's not injured but that delivery and that velocity... only a matter of time till he gets hurt again. Man, those mechanics are terrible but he did hit 102 on that pitch.
