  2. I really thought Young was going to be a great supersub for the Cubs. He just never developed even close to average power and his defense wasn't good enough to overcome it. I always got the impression that the Cubs would trade Chesny Young to the A's for cash or some crappy prospect lol.
  3. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]I think he has the most raw power in this draft class. It's a good swing and hit tool as well.
  4. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26340671/after-making-roster-rangers-hammel-retire So I'm kinda bummed that Hammel is deciding to retire now. Hoping he could go out on a stronger note. I just calculated it and Hammel was pretty good during his tenure with the Cubs. In 446 IP over 3 years he had a solid 3.59 ERA. He was outstanding in 2014 (2.98 ERA) before he got traded to the A's. It seemed like he was always great in the first half before fading and struggling in the second half. I still remember some dominant starts from Hammel with the Cubs. Hope he rejoins the organization in some capacity and wish him luck in whatever he decides to do next. This one always makes me laugh.
  5. Really? Wow, that's weird. Maybe to make space to carry an extra reliever? I'm sure he won't spend too much time down there. Happ's swing did look bad at times last year, but you could say that for the majority of Cubs players in the second-half.
  6. Wait what? Can LaVine play SG? Do you mean PG? I'm very confused by your statement. Ja Morant is a very talented PG who could play next to LaVine. They both will need the ball in their hands and will lead the offense at times. I think the Bulls backcourt would be outstanding with those two guards.
  7. [tweet] [/tweet] On ESPN.com in the stats section they have Roederer with this insane line: 1.000/1.000/6.000! :-o So that's umm, a cool otherworldly 7.000 OPS.

  13. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]The title for best prep arm in this draft class is between this guy and Daniel Espino. Both have nasty stuff, but Espino has the more explosive fastball and better velo. I like both of them, but we're probably not targeting a pitcher (especially a HS pitcher). The Cubs are taking an advanced college bat that performed in the Cape Cod League. That is the smart play and safest choice.

  15. https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerprofile.aspx?ID=599947 Huh... I did not know he was Carlos Beltran's nephew. Good balanced swing. A solid all-around prospect and I'm surprised how low he is currently on THE BOARD! over at Fangraphs. Good target for the second round if he falls that far. [bbvideo=853,480] [/bbvideo]

It's shameful that the Player's Union doesn't fight harder for minor league players and their compensation. Yes, I know they aren't a part of the Union, but these players help support the game and some eventually do make it. Hopefully, the new CBA finally addresses this problem.

  22. https://mobile.twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1106291240851640320 Well, that sucks. Keith Law says Stewart still has the sick curveball, but it doesn't have the same power and tilt. More of a grade 60 CB. The fastball is down into the low-90's and the command is shaky. Still a first round pick, but probably more towards the end of the 1st round. He still has time to rebound. I think he's falling because his stuff is down, but also because of how many talented hitters there are in this draft.
  23. So MLB will designate players into groups. Most players will be listed as either pitchers or position players. To qualify as a two-way player (I believe) you have to pitch 20 IP and have played 20 innings in the field or at DH. Something like that to avoid teams trying this. Really, it's only like two or three "true" two-way players in my mind (Lorenzen, Ohtani) and maybe a couple more in the minors. I guess Bumgarner could qualify if the Giants ever used him as a DH.
