  1. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]So I could see the Cubs having interest in Noah Murdock in the later rounds. He's a UVA pitcher and has great size (6'8"). Pretty athletic and I liked him back in the 2016 draft, but his stats are terrible. Maybe a team that's better at developing pitchers might take a chance on him. Definitely a project, but one with good upside if you can unlock it.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Good Hot Take.

  4. From the latest K. McDaniel chat on Fangraphs: Again, I didn't even include everything draft related from this chat so check it out if you're interested. Kiley confirms what I was thinking in my mock draft about KC possibly taking Bobby Witt at 2, but I could totally see them taking Andrew Vaughn there (and he's the safest player in the draft IMO). Lots of good info overall.
  5. He would be a great guy to be able to get as an overslot in the 2nd or 3rd round, but I'm sure he will be gobbled up by then. With Arizona having such a huge bonus pool, they’re going to be hard to overcome for falling overslots this year. Hopefully Cubs scouts can outwork teams this year and find talented obscure or injured guys (like Roederer and Franklin last year). Yeah, most mocks have RHP Brennan Malone going in the first round so I'm not even entirely sure if he'll reach the Cubs pick (#27). I seriously doubt it right now. Good arm, but we should focus on hitting in the first few rounds IMO. I'm trying to think of a good talented HS arm that's fallen/injured (like Dylan Cease or Jeremiah Estrada) in this draft class that the Cubs could target... I can't really think of anyone right now. Plenty of talented HS arms, but no one in that category in my mind.
  6. We absolutely should get him [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1118199581295161344[/tweet] The Orioles will have the first chance to claim him I believe (and they're run by smart people now).
  7. [tweet] [/tweet]Pretty sweet tag there. Not sure if Baez has done one quite like this. No doubt he could...

  10. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/prospect-dispatch-two-new-jersey-high-school-prospects/ Another good update on RHP Jack Leiter and SS Anthony Volpe on Fangraphs. Both of them are rising prospects in this draft. It's not from Kiley McDaniel or Eric Longenhagen, but it's a good breakdown.
  11. Eh, he's a below-average runner and I think he's going to slow down even more as he gets older. I think he'd be pretty bad in LF. I believe he's a 1B only prospect. The bat is pretty solid and he has amazing discipline. Right now he has 43 BB to 25 K on the year. Overall, in college he's 109:68 BB/K. I think he'll post good OBP in the big leagues too, but maybe not a high-average.

  14. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/kiley-mcdaniel-chat-4-10-19/ From the latest K. McDaniel chat on Fangraphs: So there were a bunch of questions on the draft and I didn't even include everything here. Lots of good updates and info on draft prospects. Nothing about the Cubs or their plans, and no mention of a release date for their first mock draft.
  15. i know, i'm talking about ptr specifically. didn't he say something like that? Believe he did, more or less. Which yeah is a piss poor excuse and everyone should’ve seen through it. I still think KB is mostly going to be fine, but even at that it isn’t a good excuse to pass on Bryce because of ~30 year old FA in 3 years. Yeah, it was a bad reason to not go after Bryce because of potential FAs down the road. We have plenty of money coming off the books. I truly wonder if we're committed to bringing Rizzo back after 2021. Not sure I want to extend him or sign him beyond maybe another 2 years.
  16. HOTTER TAKE: You don't really believe that and just like the word "cromulent" and wanted to use it (twice).
  17. I'll always like Vogelbach for being a good sport and enduring this rookie hazing lol.

  19. Thanks. I was a huge fan of Carter Stewart last year, and I'm still a fan now. Not sure how much that wrist injury affected him or if it's still bothering him? I really don't think this Cubs FO is taking a pitcher in this draft. The pitching was WAY better last draft and we had a higher pick, and we still took a hitter. I haven't checked in on him since early in the year, when everyone was clamoring over how down his stuff was. Has he gotten it back? To the level it was last year? No. His stuff has backed up and his sick curveball isn't quite as sharp and powerful. It's more of a plus curveball instead of the 70-grade curveball from last year. I haven't read a report in a while, but it seems like scouts are down on him. His fastball is operating in the low 90's this year and the command isn't the same. Probably like 5-7 pitchers rated higher than him. Maybe more? [tweet] [/tweet]That curveball was insane. Hope it comes back and that he stays healthy.
  20. I doubt they did this on purpose, but showing no interest in FA and making it a hellscape for older players is looking real smart right now. Maybe the owners did this on purpose... "I doubt" to "maybe" in two sentences....this was definitely part of the plan. I mean it's also on GMs and Presidents of Baseball Ops making the call and refusing to spend on older players. It's not all on the owners. Teams that are tanking aren't going to spend serious money during FA. Teams are operating smarter and have better projections/models. I wouldn't say that was all part of the plan.

  22. Thanks. I was a huge fan of Carter Stewart last year and I'm still a fan now. Not sure how much that wrist injury affected him or if it's still bothering him? I really don't think this Cubs FO is taking a pitcher in this draft. The pitching was WAY better last draft and we had a higher pick, and we still took a hitter. Maybe it was just because we really liked Nico Hoerner? I'm very curious what the draft board was like for the Cubs last year.
  23. Damn. I hope it's not too serious an injury.
