  1. Who are you? http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=draft You'll find a scouting report on Greg Jones in the link. He's a solid draft prospect who probably has to move off SS to play CF. Some questions about how good he'll be with the bat and how much game power he'll develop. Probably won't be drafted in the 1st round.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet]I don't think I've mentioned him here, but RHP Evan McKendry has a sick changeup and maybe the best one in the draft. He could be a poor man's Kyle Hendricks if the command improves. Hmm, I don't think LHP Graeme Stinson has the best slider among college pitchers... That's wrong and I think scouts would list many power sliders over his now. RHP Alek Manoah has a really good one. I also disagree with Hunter Bishop being the best athlete among the college players. I mean he's a very good athlete for someone his size, but I'm pretty sure Greg Jones is the better athlete.
  3. Dude, seriously just look up pitcher injuries before you start spouting off on prospects and injuries and stuff... Cole Hamels didn't suffer a shoulder injury -- he broke his humerus in his left arm. It's a well-known story. It required surgery and pitchers don't normally suffer this kind of injury (which spooked some scouts). http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/postseason/traces.jsp?loc=traces_hamels
  4. [tweet] [/tweet]That's pretty good lol.
  5. I seriously doubt it. We don't have that many trade assets unfortunately. Memphis is taking Ja Morant so they have zero interest in Kris Dunn. I like Conley, but I think some other teams will push harder to acquire him like Utah.
  6. This may not be a bad pick. I agree and I've watched him a decent amount. Not a PG really -- he's more of a combo guard. He can make plays and setup teammates, but looks to score first. The jumpshot is inconsistent. Still very raw and has lots of area to improve. He's a good athlete, but not an amazing athlete. I think we're taking Cam Reddish if he's available. GarPax and this Bulls FO loves Duke players. I don't like Reddish and think that would be a mistake.
  7. Yeah, I have my doubts on Richan and Assad and how their stuff will hold up at the upper levels as well. I also dislike Assad because the name reminds me of the evil psychopath dictator (who is a horsefeathering medical doctor btw) in Syria...
  8. [tweet] [/tweet]I disagree about the Bulls being considered "boring" here, but most of the teams seem to be in the right place. I would place the Pelicans in the "undeserved" circle. Maybe add another circle for "incompetent" too.
  9. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Another great game from The Professor.
  10. Yeah, so when the Cubs are picking in their mock draft they still have Busch, Shewmake, Lugo and Nunez still available. I'd take all those guys over Davidson (who has had problems performing with a wood bat like Raisin said).
  11. Welcome to the Board! I'm assuming you've seen a lot of Kameron Misner and wanted to chip in here. If you watch a lot of Mizzou games please contribute on what you see in games. What do you think of LHP TJ Sikkema? ---- So in regards to Misner, at the beginning of the season I heard and read really good things about him and figured the Cubs had no shot at him. Great tools in a great frame with really good instincts. Makeup was also considered outstanding. It seems like the main problem is the swing-and-miss of late and downturn in performance. Just to be clear, I also consider the Hit tool the most important one for a position player. The Hit tool is also the hardest one to project accurately for most prospects. From watching video and BP, his swing seems fine mechanically and the raw power is obvious. He starts with a slightly open stance before taking a small stride forward and closing it up. I don't see a hitch or any holes in his swing, but I'd have to watch many games to determine if there was a hole(s) in the swing. Pretty well-balanced with good hands. Approach seems fine at the plate. Looking at his stats and the overall line is pretty good, but he was performing at higher level during his sophomore season. The strikeout rate is too high at almost 22%, but he draws a lot of walks as well (52 BBs against 52 SOs). Amazing basestealer and that should translate to the Pros. The strikeouts are alarming and you wonder about how he'll do against upper level pitching. I don't know if he's susceptible to good breaking pitches/changeups, or has problems identifying spin... This is where it's really important to have high level scouts and area crosscheckers come in and try to figure out what is happening. Is he pressing? Is he having problems mechanically with his swing breaking down? Is he injured? Is this a potential long-term problem with upper level pitchers exposing him a la Brett Jackson? I don't know the answer, but I think it's important to take a chance on great athletes with rare tools occasionally. Sometimes you hit on them or they make adjustments and become refined and move quickly. I remember reading an article about how scouts missed on Giancarlo Stanton and how many scouts thought he had no chance to make it to the Pros (too big/too long a swing and a serious problem with SOs). I have other college hitters (and some HS hitters) rated higher now and I'm sure the Cubs do as well, but we don't know how it will unfold on draft day. If Misner is available and the Cubs take a chance on him I wouldn't mind this selection if other advanced hitters are gone. Misner might not hit for a great average/high-OBP, but he should hit for good power with solid defense in CF (there are questions about the defensive fit long-term). We need to remember the Cubs are employing a player with a .245/.286/.349 line right now with a career wRC+ of 92 -- it doesn't take much to be an upgrade in CF.
  12. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Good stuff.
  13. I saw a clip of Robel Garcia hitting a HR at AA. The video quality wasn't great, but the swing looked pretty good from the left side (he's a switch-hitter). I wonder what other teams think of him and how much value he has? Robel will need to do this for a full season and even then teams might be reluctant to believe in this breakout.
  14. I'd be okay with this selection. The tools are all elite (except the hit tool obviously) and he has a chance to stick in CF. I'd hope the Cubs' coaches and instructors could help improve his swing and unlock his full potential. If he was hitting in conference play there is NO way we have a chance at him.
  15. Okay, I know Hendry gets credit for "drafting" Javy under his watch just before he got fired, but I seriously doubt he did anything special or got highly involved. Hendry tries to brush off the Hayden Simpson debacle in the 2010 draft by saying he let his scouting director choose who he wanted. Christian Yelich was selected seven picks later at #23 by the Marlins. There was lots of good talent available. If Hendry tries to deflect criticism for the Hayden selection then he also doesn't deserve credit for drafting Javy. I'm trying to find the article or the quote, but I remember Hendry saying he basically let his scouting director do whatever he wanted (within the draft budget) under his tenure. I think all the credit (or most of the credit) goes to the previous scouting director Tim Wilken. He liked Javy Baez over Francisco Lindor and was super high on Baez. Hendry just went along with the selection and doesn't deserve that much credit IMO. That's your opinion, but Hendry drafted Baez and Contreras. Found it: [tweet] [/tweet]That quote in the tweet is very illuminating. Also, Jim Hendry didn't "draft" Willson Contreras -- you sign young players from DR and Venezuela as FAs. Sure, he drafted Baez and signed Contreras, but he doesn't deserve that much credit in my opinion knowing what we know about Jim Hendry. Man, I really don't want to discuss this further and have this devolve into another weird "Jeromy Burnitz vs. Kyle Schwarber"-like tangent. No thanks, I'm done.
  16. [tweet] [/tweet] Good choice again. It's the same as Jim Callis in the first one.

  18. For anyone that missed it in the game thread: [tweet] [/tweet]
  19. It's not weaksauce trolling; I'm exposing all the dumb posts and scouting reports and things you've said over the years. Seriously, you've written SO many posts that are wrong about prospects here. Not to mention your views on draft prospects and the crappy mock draft you put out (that you felt compelled to share after I wrote one, which is kinda weird). Don't make bold proclamations and statements about prospects, especially before they've done anything in the minors like in LHP Bryan Hudson's case. I brought that up because you were talking about another pitching prospect in LHP Brailyn Marquez and posters here were disputing your take. The reports on Marquez are pretty good and I'm going to ask a scout about what he thinks when I get the chance. He's an impressive pitching prospect and arguably the best one in our system.
  20. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39&start=25 "... a strikeout artist of sorts." His SO/9 for his career is 6.2. The dude has 224 K's in 326 IP. Not great bob.gif Let's not even talk about his career ERA or how crappy his stuff is lol. He'll probably be released at the end of the season. It's coming... ----- Wow, a great report on LHP Bryan Hudson from Tom there. Why do so many people here even bother talking prospects and stuff with this guy?
  21. [tweet] [/tweet] Maybe I should stop posting their mock drafts because I seriously doubt the Cubs (and their scouts) are targeting a HS pitcher with their 1st round pick. It doesn't fit their MO. A bunch of good hitters are still available: Shewmake, Wilson and Hoese (who I don't really like). Espino has incredible stuff, but the track record of young HS pitchers throwing this hard this early in their careers is bad and very troubling. He doesn't have the cleanest pitching mechanics either with a long arm-action before delivering the pitch.
