  1. You might have to wait a while to get him in your farm system, but he could be one of the best SP in the draft. He should come at a slight discount since he's a senior too.
  2. Not a big fan of the defensiveness of this comment. Yeah, I also don't like the comment. I'm not a big fan of Jason McLeod. Viewers and people who follow the draft know where Ryan Jensen was ranked (on various sites) so that's probably why he felt the need to make that comment and defend this selection. This strategy and selection will either look really smart or really dumb in a couple years; no middle ground here.

  4. [tweet] [/tweet] There is more in the article, but I didn't want to post the whole thing here. They mentioned the underslot thing and how local HS phenom Quinn Priester would've been a good target for the new pitching philosophy of the Cubs. They briefly mention the "the organization’s long-running philosophical discussions about hitters vs. pitchers". Clearly, the ones in favor of taking hitters over pitchers lost to our dismay.
  5. Fangraphs had him at 51: I'm glad Chase Strumpf was still there in the second round and I'm kinda surprised. I thought he'd be gone by the time the Cubs' second pick came up. Solid hitter who would've gone much higher after his sophomore season. He's more of a high floor player that lacks the high ceiling of other players in the draft. A safe pick that shouldn't bust, and he could be a fast riser through the farm system. So if you flip the order and say the Cubs had taken Strumpf with their first pick and ended up with Jensen with their next pick I'd still be a little disappointed, but it's not a bad outcome. I don't think Jensen was lasting all to the way to their next pick and that was part of the calculus I guess.
  6. "I hope Ryan Jensen is really good (for the Cubs' sake)". We all know what he means there lol.
  7. Every time? When's the last time? 2017. Not that long ago. To be fair, they didn't exactly reach on the two pitchers they selected that year. Just bad picks in retrospect.
  8. I think pitcher health is largely a crapshoot (even pitchers with smooth mechanics get hurt), but I believe some teams are legitimately better at scouting/developing pitchers like the Braves.
  9. Definitely. Everyone hated Nico and one year later, he's a top 65 prospect. Hey, I was initially disappointed, but I came around like 24-48 hrs later after reading up on him lol.
  10. Not surprised. Some scouts think he could be passable at 2B with shifting and proper alignments and stuff. I'm not sure if he can stick at 2B, but the bat is legit. This is who I wanted the Cubs to take.
  11. If this guy bombs maybe Jason McLeod gets fired? Maybe? I'm looking for some silver linings here.
  12. [tweet] [/tweet] Ranked #109 on BA. I know we say this every year, but this has to be an underslot deal this time.
  13. LHP Brendon Little was considered a power pitcher in his draft year...
  14. Well, I'm not very happy with this choice, but eventually the Cubs have to get it right on a pitcher at the top of the draft? Right guys?
  15. [tweet] [/tweet]Interesting. Big time riser the past few days...
  16. Please take Michael Busch or Matthew Lugo. I'd be happy with either player.
  17. Kody Hoese is gone so there goes one good option... [tweet] [/tweet]Big surprise here if true.
  18. I really want Busch and I've heard good things. Even has a decent chance to be average in LF. He's a better athlete than Schwarber (not super high praise I know).
  19. Hoerner went to the CCL and hit .300/.356/.456 in 160 PAs I would never make a first round pick on the assumption that the ball will give me an impact bat Yeah, and his junior year at Stanford he only hit 2 HRs(!) and posted an amazing IsoP of .153 in a weaker conference so please stop talking. You don't know what you're talking about and I have no idea why I even bother arguing with you...
  20. You don't need a crazy IsoP in college to be a good hitter in the pros. Look at Nico's stats and get back to me lol. Make some good tweaks and learn to hit at a higher launch angle and get away from the college approach. Also, the ball is juiced in MLB so good contact hitters hit for more power than you'd expect when they reach the big leagues.
  21. Players I like that are still available: College bats: Braden Shewmake Michael Busch Kody Hoese Kam Misner (but I doubt we take him) HS bats: Matt Lugo Nasim Nunez Gunnar Henderson Maurice Hampton
