  1. So Almora is leading off again (sigh)... Hopefully, we get good Yu today and a not terrible Ump.
  2. I read his book on pitching philosophy and I really like Derek Johnson, but I'm not all-in on hiring him to be a manager. Great guy to be your pitching coach, but I'm just not sure about being a modern manager. He did say he grew up a Cubs fan so that's something. EDIT: I wanted Rocco Baldelli to be the next manager of the Cubs. There's no way that happens now, but I'm happy the Twins are doing well. I thought for sure an extension for Maddon was fait accompli. Hiring a mgr based on childhood allegiance should be the absolute lowest of low of any of the priorities Wat? When did I say that was something important or valuable? I take it you're not familiar with expressions in English? When someone says "... so that's something" that means it's usually not that important or worthy of much consideration. I was going to say "...so that's something (I guess)". It's a cool factoid, but nothing more and everyone knows that. Did you not read the rest of my post? Man, what a dumb statement (by you).
  3. Long post incoming on Robel Garcia: [tweet] [/tweet] Now it makes sense why he was playing professionally in Italy lol. I'm higher on Ryan Jensen after reading that and this area scout knows his stuff. He did a great job finding this kid. [tweet] [/tweet] Really exciting stuff in both articles on Robel Garcia. Seems like the FO is really high on him and that he'll get the chance to prove himself with the Cubs at some point.
  4. Really looking forward to this.
  5. Any chance of Kumar skipping his last two years to play in Japan? What (or how much) would it take to lure him overseas? I'm assuming you're referring to the whole Carter Stewart situation (which is not normal). So, yes, technically Kumar Rocker could leave Vanderbilt and play overseas and join NPB, but it would take an incredible amount of money and it might delay his FA in MLB down the road. It's complicated (no one is quite sure how posting will work for Carter Stewart when/if he wants to return) and top draft prospects don't really go overseas. Maybe if Carter Stewart is successful it might become an option going forward, but it's a difficult transition. So I'm assuming you're asking because you're trying to figure out a way for the Cubs to land Kumar Rocker? That's not happening lol. ----- It's funny that someone here asks me about Kumar Rocker. I was told in another thread that "no one wants to talk to you directly or indirectly" (which is clearly false). Strange how reality works... From the latest K. McDaniel chat on Fangraphs:
  6. Well, then the Cubs have been having "bad luck" hitting w/ RISP for multiple seasons now. I don't think it's just random noise at this point. Theo has mentioned it many times about needing a better approach and needing to do better in situational hitting. I don't agree with Maddon very often these days, but he's right about this issue.
  7. I'm trying to ignore you Tom... "Just the worst" what? Just the worst swings? Again, you made a post right after I made one with very little context here. If you're trying to attack me for "jumping" on the Kumar bandwagon I wouldn't recommend it... I've liked him for a long time now.

  9. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet](Not a strike but whatever) So he's the top prospect right now for the 2021 MLB Draft. He was a dominant HS pitching prospect in last year's draft as well, but the price was too high and commitment to Vandy was very strong. I'm glad he's doing well and I hope he stays healthy. He throws very hard so I'm a little worried about TJS happening at some point. Great kid with the potential to be a TOR arm in MLB someday.

  12. I'm wondering as a Bulls fan if I want them to go after Malcolm Brogdan. I'm intrigued by his stats and what I've seen in interviews. Seems like a really intelligent/respected/high character player. Mil has to re-sign Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez and maybe Brogdan at the right price. They already gave an extension to Eric Bledsoe so I'm not sure if they would match if some team offered a good amount for Brogdan. The Bucks are going to pay a TON in luxury tax and they have to do this if they want to keep Giannis happy.
  13. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/files/2017/04/adbert-Alzolay.jpg Super excited for this game. Alzolay needs to spot the fastball a little bit better and maybe not rely on the changeup as much. He threw some good ones in his debut, but it's his third best pitch. I'm glad he has confidence in the pitch now. Also, he works at a high tempo and maybe needs to slow down and collect himself at times in critical moments. Works too fast sometimes. I'm pretty sure opposing hitters are going to step out of the box and try to mess up his rhythm. Hopefully, it doesn't bother him or affect him. Just my two cents from watching him pitch in the minors.
  14. Yeah, I agree. I had problems thinking of one, but how many pitching coaches get the chance to be a manager? I mean Mickey Callaway is a horsefeathering disaster but that shouldn't tarnish all pitching coaches.
  15. [tweet] [/tweet]I'm glad he got paid close to slot value for the #1 overall pick. Totally deserves it and becomes the best C prospect in the minors (it's not even close).
  16. Come on dude. Win it every single year? You know MLB teams try to draft and sign almost every good prospect that commits to Vandy right? He's done a phenomenal job, but they can't be expected to dominate every year (this isn't college basketball and even Duke/Kentucky don't win the NCAA tournament every year). I agree Vandy has a huge advantage in terms of scholarship money and being a private University btw.
  17. This one went 438 happy feet. Please phantom IL Descalso already. I've seen enough of Descalso too. He looks just as bad watching him with my own two eyes in a live game as he does on TV. Banish him, release him, excommunicate him... I don't care at this point lol. He sucks and Tommy doing well just compounds the mistake. What a horsefeathering terrible signing considering how few moves we made this offseason... Also, Robel isn't bad on defense from what I've been told. He can be a decent utility IF.
  18. Losing him was a massive blow. I hope he’s the #1 choice to become the next manager when Joe is gone.
  19. Damn. That really sucks. Scouts in foreign countries really develop a close relationship with the prospects they sign because they meet them at such a young age and usually stay in touch and consider them family. Hope the Cubs honor him (like Stan Zielinski) and condolences to his family.
  20. [tweet] [/tweet]That was fantastic, but also a little depressing lol.

  22. From the latest Klaw chat:
  23. [tweet] [/tweet]I wish the Cubs had drafted this pitcher and fast-tracked him as a reliever. He was dominant as a reliever and really sucked as a starter. I think he could be ready by late 2020/early 2021 if he returns to the dominant form he showed as a freshman.
