  1. Awesome news. If he flourishes there might not be a need to trade for that elusive LHRP. At least not the ones that barely move the needle. We still need a good consistent LHRP. I wouldn't count on Hultzen just yet. Think of him as more of a late season addition/bonus. How he bounces back from being used 2 out of 3 days is important. The Cubs know they have to be careful with his injury history.
  2. Another local kid (or at least Northern Illinois) that I wonder if the Cubs were interested in. Great story. So he got hit in the face and nearly lost vision in one eye, but fortunately it came back. Sounds like the kid has great makeup and determination. Throws pretty hard as well. Shame he went to the Cardinals.
  3. I'm not a fan of the Cubs' efforts to identify/develop pitchers (and that's well-known here), but I will admit the pre-draft workouts where they invite top draft prospects and their parents to Wrigley Field and let them meet Theo & staff and ask questions is awesome. Both DJ Herz and Kohl Franklin said they came away really impressed with the Cubs organization, and loved the atmosphere and feel of Wrigley Field. This is a good way to leverage our advantages since the Cubs are capped in how much they can spend on the draft/IFA's.
  4. [tweet] [/tweet]My cousins in London don't care one bit about baseball, but MLB can try to build a market there lol. Maybe try comparing it to cricket? Some still enjoy and follow cricket, but not really the younger generation as far as I can tell. I'm pretty sure my cousins enjoy the NBA somewhat, but everything comes second to football (soccer) over there. It's bizarre how fixated they are around one sport from an American's perspective.

  6. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=596825#/career/R/hitting/2019/ALL Damn. So for the Cubs list on Fangraphs I was hoping they might add Robel Garcia (like as a 40 or 35+ FV). They have Alec Mills (27.5) on there with an advanced age and Trent Giambrone (25.5) is the oldest among the position players. Robel Garcia is 26 and won't turn 27 till next year. He has legit tools and what looks like decent batspeed to me. He's sporting a .299/.381/.614 line (.995 OPS) in the minors and is still raking at AAA. His discipline and strike-zone awareness isn't the best and he might get exposed by pitching at the big league level, but I believe he deserves a shot and that he's a legit prospect now. I'm surprised I haven't read any of the national prospect analysts say something about him in a chat or tweet or something. Hopefully, he gets some recognition soon. They even included Hultzen as a 35+. Yeah, I saw that and he has an ⬆ next to his name too lol. Very excited about Hultzen. I hope someone asks Kiley or Eric about Robel Garcia in their chat sessions on Fangraphs. Maybe someone has asked and they just haven't responded and/or didn't bother to answer?
  7. [tweet] [/tweet]Pretty cool. I could've sworn Ichiro hit for the cycle in Seattle...

  10. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet]https://twitter.com/TheStarters/status/1138222810826969088[/tweet] I'm pretty bummed out over their cancelling. It was an awesome show, and I've been watching them for close to a decade now back when it was called "The Basketball Jones". It's a shame NBATV decided to cut costs (it probably wasn't even that expensive a show to produce). It'd be awesome if some producer for Marquee Sports Network hired them to produce a baseball-centric version of The Starters. They're big baseball fans as well and Trey Kirby is from Chicago (I think he's a Sox fan though). I'm sure they'll find a new home pretty fast and land on their feet. It's a highly entertaining show and a real shame it got cancelled.
  11. That's what I was expecting for Schlaffer (~$250-$300K range) and I expect the Cubs to sign DJ Herz for a similar amount to Kohl Franklin's signing bonus ($650K). EDIT: Kohl Franklin signed for $540K last year.

  13. If there was true justice in this world this [expletive] would already be bald and suffering from ED.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]We need to make a Cole Hamels appreciation thread. I was one of the few people here that wanted to bring him back or strongly advocated for bringing him back. I wanted a 1 (+1) deal with a reasonably priced option for next year, but even at this price he's worth it (plus we dumped Smyly on Texas).
  15. I'll move this here: [tweet] [/tweet]Next year's draft class is loaded with talent (and lots of elite college pitchers). Some are comparing it to the impressive 2011 draft class (Javy, Lindor, Betts, Rendon, Springer, G. Cole, Snell, etc.) but I think it's unlikely that it reaches that level in the spring. It's going to be really hard to match that draft in pure talent.
  16. [tweet] [/tweet]I think both Jensen and Strumpf will be added to the Top 30 Cubs Prospect list. I can't see anyone else from this draft being added right now.

  18. [tweet] [/tweet]I respect that lol.
  19. So Jeremiah Estrada is fully healthy right? It seems like the Cubs have been extra careful with him. That's a pretty good trio of pitchers and I wonder if any of our recent draft picks will join them eventually.
  20. I think he's going to have a breakout season one of these years where he posts a good OBP along with a good SLG% and lots of HRs (40+). Problem is he'll always suck on defense and he looks brutal in the OF at times bringing his value down. I wish we had sold on him sooner (like right after the 2015 season maybe?) and I bet Dodgers' fans feel the same way about Puig.
  21. I was planning on going to this game, but I have to attend a wedding (sigh)...
  22. I think the series is over too. The only question is if Durant is coming back next year and right now I doubt it very much. I think he's teaming up with Kyrie somewhere.
