  1. why? I'd like anyone who hit .308/.386/.445, 122 OPS+ with great defense over the course of 13 years for us. I didn't dislike Grace, but he never hit for the power he should have. And we ended up trading away HOF-level production because of him (and Cindy). I liked him, but always wanted better. Yeah I always figured that Grace would hit that 2 to 3 year streach in the middle to early second half of his career where he would hit 20 - 25 home runs...but I just kept waiting and waiting. He had some power in the minors as well - I think he hit 21 in AA iirc. Anyone remember Dawson getting in crap for saying the Cubs traded the wrong 1B when Palmeiro left?
  2. In fairness to Canseco his testicular impairment is probably due as much to the time he spent with Madonna as it is to steroids. Incidentally that also lead to him having to get a shot every two weeks.
  3. ..and a little drinkie-poo...and not necessarily in that order.
  4. I don't strongly disagree with you, but Johnson would not get many AB's in that platoon. Usually, the lefty in a platoon gets paid more than the righty since they get more AB's. Fuld doesn't really deserve 450 AB's next year. Maybe he will after another nice showing as our 4th OF'er. Johnson also was not a great solution as a leadoff hitter IIRC. I wouldn't mind letting Colvin, Fuld, Adduci, and Hoffpauir duke it out in spring training. Yay Adduci!!
  5. Kind of what I was thinking. He does have a tendancy to give up the long ball...although Soriano wasn't supposed to hit any HR's in Wahington either so you never know...but still a bit of a risk I think.
  6. So is what the Phils gave up more than they were offering at the trade deadline or did the Blue Jays accept less? (If anyone knows) Would you trade all the prospects the Phils traded for Lee + the ones they traded for Halladay for Halladay plus the ones they got back from Seattle (and 6M) or is that oversimplifying because of what's known now about Lee's stance on his next contract?
  7. Shutouts: Halladay - 14 The record for a season is 16 - I know it was 1916 but still. How many quality starts did Halladay have? As for Vasquez you can give up as few hits as you want but if they are all HR...
  8. I agree but what if he burned down his school? My point being do we really know the extent of Bradley's transgressions? Has there been any uproar from players over the situation or the suspension? There was one quote (Dempster I think???) saying he would be welcomed back next year - but that sounds a little like a diplomatic statement to me. I don't know if there was anything else?? I just think there may be more behind the scenes than we know.
  9. I actually really like Olbermann's baseball stuff and read his blog all the time. However...he's just dead wrong on so many things in this post. I don't see how you can turn Alomar down. His resume: 2700+ hits lifetime .300/.371/.443 almost 500 steals 12 All Star Appearances 10 Gold Gloves 4 Silver Sluggers I agree. He always annoyed me as a player but we probably shouldn't hold that against him. I was a little disapointed by the end of his career; I'd always figured he would soar past 3,000 hits you just never know when a players going to fade.
  10. Did Grady try to hook up with you or something? Cause that would be news to the rest of us. Did you read the thread? Do you know what a joke is? Do you how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? I think they real question is how much wood did Chuck get looking at those pictures? And all bets are off if there's a woodchuck in any of them! I'd definately file this in the "well I thought I'd see everything file". I don't really care if they are posted on site a frequented by gay men or one frequented by straight women it seems like some questionable judgement on Grady's part. I think maybe a travel mug would have added to the mystique a bit...or maybe the bathroom tiles were just cold.
  11. Yeah, that wont even almost get our foot in the door. That's 2 young cheap guys, that have had some success in the majors, that they can plug into their line up now. Colvin probably soon too - ultimately it may be as a 4th outfielder but I think that's a safe bet to be his floor - so he's a safe bet is really what I'm getting at . I think the Jays are looking for cheap talent, (that'll stay cheap for awhile) that can help them out. Vitters is a high risk high reward guy - if he's a deal breaker...toss him in if they can talk extension with Halladay. I think the Jays need safer bets. They are in deep if the trade Halladay for 5 guys that flame out in the minors.
  12. Randy Wells, Jake Fox, Tyler Colvin, Carpenter and a lower level prospect if you have to. In any talks with an AL team you need to include Fox - he has to have some value after last season. The Jays offense has been lacking so their might be some interest. The Jays are morans. If they were going to trade Halladay they should have done it at the deadline.
  13. There's no test for HGH. There are also designer steroids that the existing tests can't find. That was the whole point of BALCO. Also baseball players are widely regarded as the dumbest group of professional athletes. The hockey players chime in with "Yo...duh...yo?"

  15. No, of course not. But we're talking about whether a slugger is the best candidate for a hitting coach. I'd love Adam Dunn to be on my team, but I wouldn't want him as my hitting instructor. Not that being a great hitter means you're going to be a great hitting coach either. I'm not saying that he will be a good hitting coach. However, I am curious to how he will do because he did have a good hitting approach for his abilities. Can he teach a light-hitting middle infielder how to get on base? I don't know. Hopefully not. I assure you I will be the first person to make 'roid jokes next season. Is that really a good hitting approach though? I can see it on the first two strikes, but if you are taking strike three because it's not a mistake - I don't think that's a good approach. First two strikes absolutely. As to the slugger vs hitter thing - I've always thought them as different. i.e hitter - Boggs slugger - Dunn. A slugger may not be a good "hitter" - i.e low average (walks again I view as a seperate skill set) but can still be an excellent offensive player. The same way simply a high average doesn't make you a great offensive player by itself. Obviously you can be both. I think it just different semantics.
  16. yea, I'm pretty sure IMB is a homosexual pedofile as well. ..what? Wow! Has there been a history? What are you basing your conclusion on??
  17. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-18-cubs-brewers-chicago-sep18,0,6241197.story If you read the entire article he seems to insinuate that after the game Lou went to hide away and get a little tipsy before being ready to address the media. :-)) We knew the team was dysfunctional, but is this a case of the media going too far? What if it's true? I'm guessing it is true, but did it need to be reported? Why shouldn't it be reported when the manager of a professional sports teams drinks before a press conference? It may not be the most professional thing to do, but I really don't have much of a problem with it. Lou having a drink after the game has no impact on the team's performance on the field. If a manager was drinking before a game, that would be another story, but having a drink or two before talking to the media isn't going to hurt anything. Tony Larussa says "HOLLA!!" :clapping:

What if it's true? dude, you have got to get rid of that stupid avatar. you look like a 12 year old girl on myspace ...cruising the the 12 year olds on myspace are we? Thankfully you didn't mistake him for a 12 year old boy....
  19. I love when game cast updates a players game line - before having them come up to bat!
  20. Independent of prospect status or projectability of numbers based on age etc. which Baby Bear had the best season in the minors? (So I'm not asking who is the best prospect) I'd like to vote for Kyler Burke but I'm not immersed enough in the minors to be confident I'm not missing someone. You could throw out a pitcher and a player if you are so inclined.
  21. So who does Castro project to be most like? Edgar Renteria? Someone else? or is it too soon?
  22. No I was judging his season - I never said he was no good - actually I wasn't even doing that I was saying you could judge his season and that in fact his RBI total may actually be good. Players have bad seasons all the time - whether that is do a single seasonal variation is beside the point. If I were trying to determine if this season was an aberration - then yes but that is a completely different discussion. Again the issue was evaluating Bradley's season; not Bradley So yes it could mean a great deal in evaluating his 2009 season. Maybe his RBI's are down because he's just not coming up w/ runners on (not actually the case - he has ever so slightly more AB's w/ risp) or maybe it's because RISP BA is down (which it is by .30 pts). If you want to say he's likely to rebound to carrer norms next season (he does have a difference, not huge 18 pts I think) that's fine, and I would probably agree with you, but that was not the discussion.
