  1. He is a very good defensive player, I have not heard anyone here in Toronto refer to him as a potential All-Star though. The Jays need to improve their offense if they plan to carry him as an everyday player. I've thought for while TO would be a good spot for Cedeno to end up. I doubt Cubs would get anything back, but I think Ronnie could surprise if given a shot again.
  2. ~1 month of the league minimum I believe. ~50,000 Anyone? Todd Wellemeyer made the minimum his first year up, and that amounted to a check worth $29,500 twice a month. He made $75,000 for being on the bench (not even the active roster) for the playoffs. Rough life. How much are they making in the minors? I first thought about this last year when the Cubs called up a couple of older pitchers - Walrond and O'malley I think. Especially at their stage it's got to be huge from a financial stand point just to be called up, even if just for a short time.
  3. How much of a big deal financially is this for these guys? Are they going to make more in a month than they did the rest of the year?? What are these guys likely making?
  4. I assume he's the Cubs - let me know if you think otherwise - but I don't know the rest of the leagues well enough. Is he in the running?? (Have the Cubs ever had one?)
  5. If the OPS is equal, the one with the higher OBP is better. That too. Wouldn't that depend on how much better the OBP is? You would rather have some getting on via a walk than a HR? Unless we are talking dramatic difference in OBP I'll take the extra slugging.
  6. Glaus has heel and ankle and, I think, back problems. He's not going to be spending anytime in RF or SS for that matter.
  7. July 31 Quite honestly I'd like to see Cedeno and Soto given a shot before any trades are entertained.
  8. Me. Talk about overrated. I would rather keep Murton who would out produce Dunn. HR is an overrated stat. You can score without a HR. You can't score that often when you have a Run Producer setting the all time record for season strikeouts. I don't mind Dunn, I am not nearly as enamoured with him as some on this board. He brings some pretty big positives too the table, but also brings some pretty significant negatives. He is atrocious in the field. A scout quoted on ESPN said don't even think of putting him at first. He would be a disaster in RF. So as long as you factor that in and are okay with that, he might be your man. I, personally, would never hit him third. He is not a good hitter. He gets on base well (not quite as well so far this year) and hits HR's well but outside of those two instances you're in trouble. Again some significant positives, but don't assume away the significant negatives. Ask Reds fans how frustrating it is watching all those called third strikes. I actually like him 2nd, heck Soriano is leadoff. I certainly wouldn't scream if they aquired him (depending on what they had to give up) but he's not that perfect fit that would get me all excited. I'd prefer Griffey, but I will admit there is at least a hint of wanting to say Griffey played for the Cubs to that.
  9. I'd like the Cubs to get Dunn but they don't have a positon for him becuase they refuse to move Soriano to RF. It is also my opinion that the Cubs do not want Dunn b/c he strikes out too much and doesn't play good defense. If they were to get him they would probably mis-manage him by hitting him 6 or 7. In short, I like him, the Cubs don't and wouldn't use him properly anyway. It's not that he doesn't play good defense it is that he plays terrible defense. We can't just pretend that's not the case. He's definately a plus offensively but lets not pretend this is Pujols or even Derek Lee. I just think the cost of getting him (and if they would take Eyre and Marshal I'll stand corrected) coupled with his defense (scouts have said on ESPN that you CANNOT put him at first, RF would be a disaster) he's just not worth it. My great hope right now is that AROD opts out at the end of the year and wants to come back and play for Lou.
  10. Uh, I'm pretty sure that the "saber geeks" would laugh at the concept of Adam Dunn being a rally killer. That's true he's kept more than a few opponents rally's going quite nicely.
  11. Amen! Dunn would make Murton look like Roberto Clemente. (I'd love to get him and Bonds in the same outfield and just sit back and watch pitchers head's explode) He's not average in the field, he's horrific. Obviously there are some big plusses offensively but I bet he'd be here two weeks before everyone would be all over him. He'd be a frustrating player to watch on a day to day basis. He takes a tremendous amount of called 3rd strikes I believe (someone correct me if I am remembering incorectly) He's the anti-Pierre really, isn't he? I know the walks and HR's make up for a lot but..and I know I'll get crucified for this... but for my money a major leagure, fundametally, should be able to hit at least .260. If he can't I think its just a matter of time before a decline sets in and picks up speed. I just don't think he'd be worth the players I am assuming it would take to get him. Someone mentioned Zambrano (currently tied for 2nd in the NL in wins)..NOT A CHANCE.
  12. There may be ways to sort that on MLB.com. From what I've seen, as long as a player has enough at-bats in close and late, etc. , their stats will be very similar to their career stats. I was looking for the league as a whole not an individual player - is there anywhere to find this?
  13. Does anyone have an overall MLB line for batters in "clutch" or "late and close" situations and then an overall line for all other situations (so this would be the average line for a player not including the above situations)??
  14. 316/369/465 playing SS for the DRays. Showing a little pop too; 6hrs. Godd for him!
  15. Dunn needs to go the AL. He is horrendous in the field. There was article on ESPN where scouts were stating that he is even worse at first.
  16. The June 23rd game is "THE" Sandberg game, right?? Against Sutter and the Cardinals?? Please tell me that it is. I'd buy it just for that. I never got to see Kerry's game or the Sutcliff game so those will be great to see. I'd guess it might not fit in with the "spirit" of the concept but I wish the Bill Murray game was included too.
  17. And if he is what's the longest streak by someone of mixed heritage?
  18. Well to be fair that's what it is. I think the point was that it seems out of place for a man of Wilken's stature and reputation to use a phrase like that to get his point across. It's one step away from hyperbole. I don't think anyone was making a federal case out of it, but it is a valid point. Just like if a different synonym for Irish Prodestant was used earlier in the thread I'm pretty sure a whole different set of responses would have resulted.
  19. I doubt it - but a lot of us have fond memories of him and probably some follow his career quite closely. Given that he was a "can't miss" prospect for this team just a few years ago, I can't see why someone starting a thread about him every so often is a bad thing. Yup. I love following ex-Cubs especially those that came up through the system. I developed a soft spot for the Red Sox when Buckner got traded there which still lingers.
  20. 4 to 3. Yeah, Yeah I know it's April 10th but hey who knows maybe this'll be the year he puts it all together. I for one will be bummed it's not in a Cubs uniform.
  21. ...and Ryno had 19 in '84 and had a good shot at 20 but held up on a ball down in the right field corner in one of the final games of the year, He'd line balls right down the line on rope that year - it was fun to watch.
  22. Dunston had three in a game against Montreal, if my memory serves me correctly. I remember thinking a bigger deal should have been made about it - I don't know if it has happened since but I haven't heard about it.
  23. I heard he had a knife! I heard it was a bazooka and a bottle of cherry schnaps!!
  24. Just like to point out that the two people sitting on either side of Bartman are moving AWAY from thr ball. I guess two out of three ain"t bad!?!
  25. How about the time Harry spied a couple snuggling under a blanket in the bleachers on a particularly cold day. Harry tells Steve the couple has a system set up to keep warm: he hugs her on the strikes and she kisses him on the balls. Someone on here had an audio link to this I am pretty sure. It's just classic. The best is everyone in the booth just losing it as he says it.
