  1. Although his MLB numbers to date are underwhelming, this is a rather impressive list of age based similarity scores: 1. Carlos Delgado (980) 2. Justin Morneau (971) 3. Dick Gernert (962) 4. Jose Cruz (961) 5. Willie Stargell (954) 6. Brian Hunter (953) 7. Frank Thomas (952) 8. Pat Burrell (952) 9. Albert Belle (948) 10. Melvin Nieves (946)
  2. I don't think I've ever been this saddened by the passing of a man I never met. I miss him already.
  3. How shortsighted of me. Upon further reflection, I think we can count as positives that Geovany Soto is still alive and Jim Hendry has announced no plans to steal Christmas.
  4. Someone refresh my memory, please. Has anything positive happened thus far this offseason?
  5. Impressive series from the Giants pitching staff. Did anyone else catch Joe Buck's claim that there were no MLB teams west of the mississippi prior to 1954? I think his dad (not to mention Tim McCarver) might beg to differ.
  6. Re: Dunn: Good news. Re: Jamie Moyer playing winterball with the Escogido Lions at age 48: Does he just hate his family?
  7. Un-[expletive]-believable. Sharpie. Damn.
  8. Nice to eke out a point!
  9. I'm becoming increasingly certain that Hossa is The Messiah.
  10. Thanks. Indefinite articles + parenthetical asides=personal confusion.
  11. Bobby Cox is [expletive] awesome.
  12. Phillies' fans were waving lots of distracting white towels. Bruce is just lucky that soft liner didn't hit him in the groin. yeah i thought charging bruce with that error was harsh, but they made two errors that led to the phillies' first two runs and brandon phillips just dropped the ball on the exchange after the bruce error, allowing werth to score. he also mismanaged the 8th inning, allowing masset to face a number of LH batters (and walk them all intentionally) with bill bray (very tough LHP on LH batters) just farting around in the bullpen. I was just making a (apparently obscure) Matt Holliday joke. P.S.: Grammar question: "an (apparently obscure) Matt..." or "a (apparently obscure) Matt..."? P.P.S. I apologize for asking grammar questions in the playoffs thread.
  13. First Chi-Tonw, now this? Chicago tattoo artists are gonna get a bad reputation.

  15. As I read that article this morning, I remember thinking, "Hmm. Interesting piece of analysis to find in a mainstream newspaper." Then I read a few of the comments. I sometimes forget what visceral disgust the notion of "luck" on batted balls in play inspires in the majority of baseball fans.
  16. Lincecum is dealing.
  17. It was mentioned earlier, but 2004 has to be one of the worst seasons of recent memory. Disappointment is predicated upon expectation; that team was much better (on paper) than the 2003 squad. Years like this one are not pleasant, but they're far from excruciating. Not caring is easy when a team that was expected to be mediocre fails to crack the .500 mark at any point in the season.
  18. According to the TV there weren't enough fans in the stadium to do the wave by the 9th. It wasn't an impressive wave, but their hearts were in it.
  19. After the Cubs put up 4 in the 7th, I wasn't sure if the Cards' fans would be able to summon the collective will to do the wave, but they gutted it out. I guess that's what makes them the best fans in baseball.
  20. I love the fact that Shannon and Rooney have spent the last two innings talking about next year's schedule. P.S. You deserve a medal for this season, Fred.
  21. Here's to this being the opening day lineup of the 2012 st. louis cardinals.
  22. The Cubs should put their faith in .
  23. If you had Day Two in the "How many days will it take Dusty Baker to use Aroldis Chapman in consecutive games?" pool, you are a winner.
  24. In the weeks since Brandon Phillips "poked the bear", the Cardinals' postseason odds have dropped by 50.6 %.
  25. I was at the game, so I have no idea what Bob said. But does the fact that the outcome was a success change the fact the the process was flawed? What I found most ridiculous about Brenly's criticism was the context. Even if Soriano ran as hard as he could out of the box, he had no where to go with men at 1st and second and 1 out on a pop fly to short right. The other runners had to hold up.
