It's probably not fair to leave out that better players are ahead of him on the depth chart. He's been trade bait since before the season started. They just haven't found a team willing to cough up what they want in order to deal him. That actually worked out in their favor when David Ortiz started out so badly, as Boston platooned Lowell with Ortiz. Realistically, Lowell can only play 3b, 1b and DH. They have Youkilis and Beltre that can play 3b, and Victor Martinez and Youkilis that can play 1b. Very true. My point remains, however, that no prosepect of consequence will be offered in exchange for Mike Lowell.
