  1. Baffling. Also: Geovany Soto walks. This is akin to saying "horses run" or wind blows".
  2. Lee and/or Ramirez have to move down. This is ridiculous.
  3. Cubs' batting order by OPS: 1 - .957 2 - .702 3 - .676 4 - .533 5 - .951 6 - .915 7 - .927 8 - .967 9 - Pitcher Hilarious. With the exception of Fukudome in the leadoff spot, this is pretty much the "Bizarro Lineup".
  4. Ramirez Re: Gonzalez and playing with an injury: "That's OK. He doesn't understand that. He never played in the big leagues."
  5. There must be a transaction in the works. Lou was very vague/evasive, even by Lou standards. I'm guessing one of our SPs is traded shortly.
  6. Plus a pretty slick DP turn with the bases loaded. Starlin Castro is a badass.
  7. Call me crazy, but I think Judd Sirott's PBP is improving. The pacing of his calls is much more even.
  8. Brandon Lyon's 3 yr $15 million contract is one of the few in all of baseball that is worse than Grabow's.
  9. Lilly forgot to spot the bucs the customary 3 runs. I'm sure he'll remember later.
  10. Never in my wildest dreams that it would be so bad that we are begging for the Cubs to "steal a game from the Bucs." Ouch........ Yeah, I was conflicted as to whether I should put sarcastic quotes around "steal". At 0-5, nothing is clear.
  11. Lou seems obsessed with "balance", be it L/R stuff or having good hitters at the top and bottom of his lineup. I think he overthinks in this respect. Lineup construction is not some shadowy, black art. Just bunch up good OBP/SLG at the top/middle of the order.
  12. Yeah, same here. The ending of the season stunk, but 2008 as a whole was by far the most fun I've had as a Cubs fan. If anything it made me more of a fan as opposed to making me all apathetic about bad seasons to come. And on that note, I'm off to the game. Cheers! Here's hoping we can steal one from the Bucs.
  13. 2008 was fun. I know it didn't end that way, but it was fun. I was recently discussing the Cubs' woes with a friend of mine, to which he stated, "at least your not a Bruins fan", referring to the epic collapse of Boston in the playoffs last week. I'm not so sure about this. As much as recent postseason exits still sting, I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching a baseball team as much as I did the 2008 Cubs. Conversely, watching this team, with more than the requisite resources--and much of the talent--needed to be a .500 or better team, fail so abysmally is just aggravating. A terrible playoff exit is a painful ending, but at least there is some quality baseball along the way.
  14. Had I even a modicum of self-respect, I would be ignoring this game. Go Cubs.
  15. I would cast my votes, but right now the vote total is sitting at 23 and I don't want to jinx it.
  16. I have no problem with all righties vs. a lefty. My issue is with the worst hitters in our lineup hitting in the 3-5 spots. Again. And Again. And Again. Well, at least Castro can pad his OBP getting pitched around in order to bring up our pitcher with RISP.
  17. Wells bounced back nicely over the past 4 innings.
  18. Nice to see Starlin shake off last night's poor performance. Here come our 3-7 & 8 hitters.
  19. Lilly left 7 men on base. 2 out RISP situations for your pitcher are to be expected when you put your two best OPS in the 6th and 7th spot.
  20. 8-9-1, actually. Still beats 3-4-5 though.
  21. Castro perhaps needs a little more time in AA to work on playing baseball.
