  1. So Colvin committed an error that allowed a run, but Carpenter allowed the runner he inherited to score. Who will Silva fight with?
  2. Ugly third for Silva. Final line 2.1 IP, 10 H, 8 ER, 0 BB 0 K. 9 singles, 1 double.
  3. I realize its only the second week of spring training, but Pena has only hit one ball in the air thus far (15 ABs). I don't really care about his AVG (and he has drawn 3 walks thus far), but it would be encouraging to see better contact.
  4. I find myself pulling for Silva to fail, mostly on Cashner's behalf. I don't really have anything against Carlos, I just don't want him in the rotation. 3 hits 0 R 0 BB 0 K thru 2 IP. Bourjos crushed a ball that drifted just foul, and the Angels have run themselves out of 2 other opportunities.
  5. Gah. Both of his outs were strikeouts, so there's that, I guess...
  6. K K BB K. Pretty standard Marmol.
  7. Yay! I'll finally get to watch a spring training game where I can cheer for a team. Which ss team are we seeing? LAD/CHC or CHC/CIN? Edit: Nevermind. Dodgers. Fukudome 9 Johnson 7 Byrd 8 Ramirez 5 LaHair 3 Soto 2 Baker 4 Barney 6 Dempster 1
  8. Not a great 1st for Cashner: 1 run, 2 hits (1 double) 2 walks, no K. 2 groundouts, 1 flyout.
  9. Never underestimate the ability of the Sullivans, Rosenthals and Kaplans of the world to scapegoat Aramis.
  10. Flip the "____ innings without an error" sign back to zero. E3 on a missed catch by Moore. Then a walk. Then a 3-run HR. Dolis not looking so hot this afternoon.
  11. 3 scoreless for Z. 2 hits, 2 walks and a HBP. No errors (although a routine DP ball was turned into a FC by a poor throw from Ojeda). Colvin had a nice grab at the wall.
  12. "In our mad pursuit of the scoop, we members of the press sometimes...make mistakes."
  13. 2 fielding errors and a catcher's interference call in a single inning. Christ Cubs, I know its spring training, but get it together.
  14. Silva cinching up that rotation spot. Leadoff walk to Counsell and a 2-run homer surrendered to Luis Cruz. Edit: and there goes another 2-run shot. 4 runs on 1 walk, 2 hits and an error. Still only one out.
  15. ...And the first Cubs homer of the spring has arrived. A two run shot to left off the bat of Starlin Castro.
  16. Godspeed, Mark Prior.
  17. Sweet jesus. Scott annihilated Staubitz.
  18. Scalabrine with the KO punch. Nice win.
  19. first pitch was a ball according to pat Game Day has him with 7 pitches, none of which were a ball. In past seasons the spring training gameday feed didn't count each individual pitch, but rather tallied only strikes contributing to a K and balls in play. As Z's first inning line was 2 K and a groundout, I assume this is still the case.
  20. Congrats to Hank for finding new and inventive ways to make the Yankees unlikable.
  21. Wow, he's going to be seeing a fastball to the head at some point this season. Dusty probably gets something thrown at him from the dugout too. Whether it may help your team indirectly or not, saying it's great news is nothing short of classless. And to me, a manager should be held to higher standards than players to begin with. I'm not even sure Ozzie would have made those remarks.
  22. As far as I can tell, its not; this entry from FJM (Re: Buzz's unquestioning, childlike awe of TLR) will have to suffice in it's place.
  23. Actually the Wainwirght thing sounds like it could potentially hurt the Cubs. See this blurb from Rotoworld (emphasis mine): If the option ends up not vesting, do the Cardinals let him walk in an effort to keep Albert? I doubt it. Given Albert's competitive nature, I don't think gutting the rotation would be a good way to lure him. Carpenter has a $15 million option this offseason. If anything, they'll decline that.
