  1. Wow. Has this been the best post-season imaginable for cards fans?
  2. Is it that time of year already? Rawdog forever, indeed!
  3. I like replays. MLB doesn't: Replays showing called balls or strikes from the current game or series, brushback pitches, or any instance where an umpire has clearly made an incorrect call are also forbidden by MLB. Plays may be shown once and slow-motion or freeze frames are not allowed.
  4. I understand the appeal of a jumbotron from a marketing perspective; they allow for a lot more advertising sales. From a fan perspective, I don't really care. Do people really like kiss cams and animated trivia games that much?
  5. Replacing the scoreboard with a jumbotron is in no way comparable to putting seats atop the green monster. If any parallel can be drawn between that move and Wrigley, it would be the bleacher expansion, which already happened in 2006. Considering the level of bureaucratic wrangling and negotiation that was required in order to make that modest improvement to the park, I highly doubt any credible plan is in place to tear down or drastically alter an iconic element of the ballpark's facade. The Ricketts could petition the city to relax or withdraw Wrigley's landmark status, but I don't think they would try and I doubt the city would let them.
  6. I think that was the most "no goal" calls I have ever seen in one game. Good win for the Hawks, taking care of business against a pretty hapless CBJ squad.
  7. I don't know what your referring to.
  8. The Rangers are the Buffalo Bills of baseball.

You've got a selection problem going on. The times he threw less than 95 pitchers were generally the games he wasn't pitching very well. I'm including all pitches 1-94 from every game, not just games in which he threw less than 95 total. Looking at just the games in which he threw 95+ and breaking them down into 1-94 and 95+ might be interesting. I don't have time for that right now, unfortunately.

    >95 pitches (25 occasions, 21.2 IP, 103 BF): ERA: 4.15 WHIP: 1.71 BABIP: .357 K/BB: 2.31 K/9: 12.5 .273/.369/.466/.835 <95 pitches: ERA: 4.88 WHIP: 1.42 BABIP: .327 K/BB: 2.33 K/9: 8.0 .271/.343/.445/.788
  11. Bah. Whatever.
  12. What is most disappointing is that irrespective of the outcome of this series, tonight's game eclipses tony larussa's game 5 retardedness in the eyes of history. No one will remember that now. They'll just remember David [expletive] Freese. Oh well. Go Rangers.
  13. banhammer if we're banning people, FNdomination, j.r., controversy and chuckywang have to go before this guy. any statements about that being awesome or being indecisive about who they'd like to win should be met with an immediate holiday from nsbb. Really? If you love baseball, you love that game. I guess, if you love baseball in some abstract, platonic sense. Can I study under you?
  14. banhammer Indeed.
  15. At least I can take comfort in knowing Snayke isn't enjoying this at all, what with Rasmus and LaRussa and all that...
  16. Melky posted the best ISO of his career last year despite hitting LD at a rate below his career average and the league average. He struck out at a higher rate than any previous year, while walking at his lowest rate in any full season. I think there are still a lot of question marks with Melky.
  17. Ok, so I went ahead and sorted the FA starters by 2011 WAR. This obviously leaves out some FAs who didn't pitch last year: Tier 1 CC Sabathia 6.9 C.J. Wilson 5.0 Tier 2 Mark Buehrle 3.7 Hiroki Kuroda 3.7 Freddy Garcia 3.4 Edwin Jackson 3.1 Bruce Chen 2.8 Paul Maholm 2.6 Javier Vazquez 2.5 Tier 3 Aaron Harang 1.9 Roy Oswalt 1.7 Jeff Francis 1.4 Kevin Millwood 1.1 Chris Young 1.0 Tier 4 Ryan Dempster 0.8 Rich Harden 0.7 Jon Garland 0.5 Aaron Cook 0.2 Rodrigo Lopez 0.1 Chien-Ming Wang 0.0 Tier 5 Zach Duke -0.1 Livan Hernande -0.1 Jason Marquis -0.2 Scott Kazmir -0.4 Brad Penny -0.4 John Maine -0.8 Kyle Davies -1.0 Tim Wakefield -1.2 Joel Pineiro -1.6 I realize single season WAR is far from a perfect metric, but it's a reasonable point of reference for discussion.
  18. Chen was worth 2.8 WAR last season (108 ERA+). What might be a useful objective cutoff between the tiers?
  19. Off topic: many snack cakes (twinkies, ding-dongs, suzy-Qs, etc.) contain beef fat and/or gelatin, so most vegetarians actually do avoid them. On topic: I'm on board with Prince coming to Chicago, but I don't see it happening.
  20. That was even more beautiful than I had hoped it would be.
  21. I think the "crazy-legs Ron Washington" routine occurring at the 0:26 mark of this clip--properly GIFed--could easily supplant OMCs weird, musician-puppets-having-a-seizure GIF.
  22. Paul I hope the cubs also make an offer to Ray Oswalt.
  23. On a scale from 0 to Theo, that gif is 0.8x(Theo). Edit: Didn't even see SSRs post. Ricketts is more appropriate.
  24. The cards playoff opponents have committed 25 errors in 16+ games. Their strategy appears to be put the ball in play and wait for their opponents to [expletive] up. Oh, and nice shot, Moreland.
  25. Third wave, man. The collective expression of physical lust for Theo is a beautiful, positive affirmation of the community's deeply-held respect for him.
