  1. Thanks. I thought as much. Levine is a bit off there.
  2. I realize the abominable new CBA limits spending on IFAs ($2.9 million for 2012, I believe). Do posted players from NPB fall under the purview of the CBA's new IFA regulations? I don't think that is the case. They are not signing minor league contracts, after all.
  3. Why wouldn't this CBA take effect for the 2012 draft? The $2.9 million ceiling for IFAs will be in place in 2012, no?
  4. Zambrano was hit in the face by a liner in his last start.
  5. Tim, I have appreciated the site for years, but you have been truly killing it as of late. Great stuff.
  6. I think Robin has a lot of other interests at this point (largely motor sports) but I would be thrilled to have him on board. Would it make you feel any better to know that I grew up in WI and the Brewers were my favorite AL team throughout the Yount years? Probably not.
  7. Can't resist. CC Sabathia: 4.81 playoff ERA Jeff Weaver: 3.89 playoff ERA Clearly, Weaver is the superior pitcher.
  8. So what kind of compensation do we owe Milwaukee? Garza? Castro? Probably Garza.
  9. This was mentioned by davell in the International FA thread, but it is rumored that the Cubs are more interested in 19 year old Cuban OF Jorge Soler.
  10. I think Theo has decided to communicate with the Chicago sports media strictly in the language of baseball analogies. This is all but proof that they are talking down to the media and laughing about it later. I couldn't be happier about that. I like to think that he and Jed have a side bet as to who can keep it up the longest.
  11. I think Theo has decided to communicate with the Chicago sports media strictly in the language of baseball analogies.
  12. I really dislike the idea of a 1 game playoff between 2 teams with non-identical records.
  13. Edler realizing he was beat and shamelessly attempting to shove the goal off the moorings before Toews could net the Hawks 3rd goal was classic Canucks hockey.
  14. Brilliant. Tuned in just in time.
  15. I'm of the opinion that Theo and Jed wouldn't hire a guy that they didn't believe would promote their brand of baseball. I don't see any red flags with Sveum. I'm cool with him if he's their choice.
  16. I noticed this earlier Regarding his time in Boston: Apparently, he took his share of criticism from Sox fans. Link
  17. It's becoming an NSBB meme. I don't love it, but its better than other recent memes I find it to be pretty hot.
  18. Until proven otherwise I'm assuming they all go back and giggle themselves to sleep after saying that [expletive]. Yeah. Just as one speaks in brief, direct phrases when conversing with a child, Theo and Jed must speak meatball in order to communicate with the Chicago sports media. Can you imagine if they attempted to explain player evaluation in terms of objective analytical metrics to Kaplan? He'd become confused and flustered, take off his suit coat and try to fight them.
  19. Apparently, the Marlins offer to Pujols was less than $200 million.
  20. Jaromir Jagr would sooner retire than play for the Capitals, Rangers or Flyers.
  21. Where did you read that? Too many times he has made snarky comments about our fans, stadium and team. Read between the lines and you know he is not coming here. Jim Edmonds hated playing at Wrigley too. Until the Cubs paid him to do it. Edit: Beaten by SSR!
  22. LeBron left a bigger max contract in Cleveland to go to miami. And he announced it on an ESPN special.
  23. These are all very modern comparisons. Could you imagine Favre going to the Vikings?? That's not the Bears and he took a major beating for it. His reputation took a major beating because he sent pictures of his dick to a Jets employee. When the Vikes were in the NFC championship game, no one outside of Wisconsin cared that he had "betrayed" the Packers.
  24. He may also feel that having given St. Louis about 8 WAR a season at below market value for over a decade (not to mention 3 pennants, 2 WS championships) he deserves to be rewarded. I don't know that he'll come to the Cubs, but I think he will go where he is most appreciated, i.e. most handsomely paid.
