I realize the abominable new CBA limits spending on IFAs ($2.9 million for 2012, I believe). Do posted players from NPB fall under the purview of the CBA's new IFA regulations? I don't think that is the case. They are not signing minor league contracts, after all.

Why wouldn't this CBA take effect for the 2012 draft? The $2.9 million ceiling for IFAs will be in place in 2012, no?

I think Robin has a lot of other interests at this point (largely motor sports) but I would be thrilled to have him on board. Would it make you feel any better to know that I grew up in WI and the Brewers were my favorite AL team throughout the Yount years? Probably not.

I think Theo has decided to communicate with the Chicago sports media strictly in the language of baseball analogies. This is all but proof that they are talking down to the media and laughing about it later. I couldn't be happier about that. I like to think that he and Jed have a side bet as to who can keep it up the longest.

I'm of the opinion that Theo and Jed wouldn't hire a guy that they didn't believe would promote their brand of baseball. I don't see any red flags with Sveum. I'm cool with him if he's their choice. -

Until proven otherwise I'm assuming they all go back and giggle themselves to sleep after saying that [expletive]. Yeah. Just as one speaks in brief, direct phrases when conversing with a child, Theo and Jed must speak meatball in order to communicate with the Chicago sports media. Can you imagine if they attempted to explain player evaluation in terms of objective analytical metrics to Kaplan? He'd become confused and flustered, take off his suit coat and try to fight them.

Where did you read that? Too many times he has made snarky comments about our fans, stadium and team. Read between the lines and you know he is not coming here. Jim Edmonds hated playing at Wrigley too. Until the Cubs paid him to do it. Edit: Beaten by SSR!

These are all very modern comparisons. Could you imagine Favre going to the Vikings?? That's not the Bears and he took a major beating for it. His reputation took a major beating because he sent pictures of his dick to a Jets employee. When the Vikes were in the NFC championship game, no one outside of Wisconsin cared that he had "betrayed" the Packers.

He may also feel that having given St. Louis about 8 WAR a season at below market value for over a decade (not to mention 3 pennants, 2 WS championships) he deserves to be rewarded. I don't know that he'll come to the Cubs, but I think he will go where he is most appreciated, i.e. most handsomely paid.
