  1. Legend says that on the eve of a Cubs sweep, it appears in the game threads...
  2. Wow. A real front office with a coherent philosophy regarding the construction of a ballclub. Amazing.
  3. I assume you simply forgot to credit Jon Heyman?
  4. I'm pleased to admit that I underestimated Dan Carcillo.
  5. I highly doubt Selig is going to want to up the value of executives. Yeah, I doubt his involvement would be deleterious to the Cubs interests, but there's not a lot to draw inference from at present.
  6. ...or at Ricketts to offer better compensation. We won't really know until Selig actually gets involved.
  7. Wow. [expletive] brilliant play by Andrus to end the 5th.

  9. I'm in need of a clarification Re: Sczcur. Due to the restructuring of his contract, he will have to be added to the Cubs 40-man in November in order to shield him from rule-5 draft eligibility. If he were traded to the Sox, would they need to take similar measures?
  10. Callin' all cars, callin' all cars, ghetto Psychos, armed and dangerous, leaving mad scars on those Who are found bound, gagged and shot when they blast the spot Victims took off like astronauts Get with this, even your best can't Come on down, you're the next contestant Get your pockets dug from all your chemical bankin's Caught him at the red light on Putnam Avenue and Franklin They used to heat up the cipher with a shot that was hyper Than your average JFK sniper He just came home to spark it Rolling like Kaufman and lay that ass out like carpet Stop the stuttering boy, save the planes for the five oh Then praise the God chik-a-chik pow They be lick shots and premeditate to grab And then they eject back to the lab And then remain in Shaolin an endangered island Shorties lose blood by the gallon
  11. absolutely. & if it weren't so, no one would post. it's just that after so long, once the speculation has even grown weary with mounting ghosts of reports mirroring each other in the dark, [expletive] gets old, is all. i'll still read it all, continuing to refresh after every beautiful roberto bolano chapter of the savage detectives. That is an amazing novel.
  12. My level of anticipation is officially comparable.
  13. I've been offered Reggie Wayne for Mike Williams (TB). My interest stems from Williams unimpressive start and a desire to defray week 8 bye issues. Wayne has a terrible QB situation, but he's also 6th in the NFL with 40 targets. How stupid a move would this be?
  14. Ricketts said he had "100 percent confidence in Jim" on June 15 before firing him (secretly no less!) on July 22. Whether we like it or not, I don't think Ricketts always means what he says publicly. He feeds pablum to reporters in order to avoid public feuds while conducting his business behind closed doors. Those situations aren't comparable at all. Yeah, what would be the motivation for Ricketts to lie in this case? To be clear, my point is simply that I don't think you can put a lot of stake in what he says to reporters. His full quote regarding replacing Kenney with a "baseball man": It's obvious in retrospect that he didn't "trust Jim". I think its equally plausible that the rest of the stuff he said could be a smoke screen; Ricketts seems to like to avoid public confrontations. I think he will stock his front office with the people he thinks are most capable of running it, irrespective of what he may have said (mostly in defense of Hendry, who he fired) a few months ago.

  16. Couldn't resist.
  17. Well, this is true. Then what are all of these rumors about hiring 3 guys to replace him. There's a fat joke waiting to be made here...
  18. They are going to announce their new Jewish GM in the middle of the most important Jewish holiday? Signing Theo would be an act of atonement.
  19. Who negotiates that deal?
  20. O's [expletive] win!!
  21. A little tribute to his manager from roberts as he rounds the bases: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_09_27_lanmlb_arimlb_1&highlight_content_id=19748777&c_id=ari
  22. Someone bet you $100 dollars that the Sox would finish with 10 more wins than the Cubs? I'm not sure I've ever lost a bet with this guy. How long have you known Hawk?
  23. Rays win 5-3, O's trail 8-6 with 2 down and a man at 3rd in the 8th.
  24. [expletive] you, Astros. 5-4 after a bases-clearing double by a grown man who calls himself "skip". Edit: and now Corey Patterson has been walked to re-load the bases. [expletive].
