  1. Demp looks great. Who the hell is this guy singing the stretch?
  2. Link 4 years/$27.5 million, plus 5th and 6th year options. Good deal for St. Louis.
  3. Rasmus' monthly splits: PA AB BA OBP SLG OPS April/March 120 103 .301 .392 .476 .867 May 108 91 .253 .370 .407 .777 June 98 89 .213 .268 .416 .684 July 34 34 .147 .147 .235 .382 While he's probably on the way to a 2.5-3 WAR season, now would seem like a pretty tough time to get a worthwhile return on him.
  4. The Cubs would need pitching back, and the only pitchers I know of that are near ML ready in the Sox system are Kyle Weiland (Notre Dame guy) and Felix Doubront. Will Middlebrooks could be an intriguing option at 3B. As N&G said, the Cubs would require a big return for Garza, considering his price tag, the value he provides and the chips (Archer and HJ Lee, in particular) that were traded to land him. There isn't a lot in the Sox system that really excites me, but I'm admittedly not an expert.
  5. Al Kaline was 20 when he started in 1955 and Dwight Gooden pitched in relief in 1984 at age 19. There are undoubtedly more. Still impressive company.
  6. If the organization intends upon having Cashner contribute as a starter in the long term (which the last few paragraphs seem to suggest), I don't really understand the bullpen thing. The 2011 season is long gone. I imagine the casual fan has largely forgotten Cashner even exists; it's not as if there is a deafening public outcry for his speedy return in whatever capacity. Stretch him out slowly so he's ready to start at some point in 2012. God knows we could use a cheap, quality starter.
  7. I actually think that is good news. This gives him more time to demonstrate his abilities post-injury; teams will have a better idea of what his status is (and perhaps the Cards will have to pay in full after all).
  8. Byrd will be wearing a protective face mask the rest of the year. Ahh. Thanks.
  9. I'll never forget the big hit he had in game 2 of the 2010 Cup finals... on Jeff Carter. Didn't realize we were in need of goon depth.
  10. So Demp is the only one left, right?
  11. Re: Position players pitching, apparently Hill viewed himself as a candidate:
  12. My guess is caught stealing. "Pirates of the base resistance kill" is far more appealing to me, largely in that it sounds like a swashbuckling sci-fi movie.
  13. ...or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Google Chrome Translation Tool. Patrick Dubuque's foray into the world of the Chinese Professional Baseball League of Taiwan yields, among other things, this hilariously mis-translated player statistics sheet: I propose that this board adopt "assasinations", "I hit the face", "Garrison Opportunities", etc. as official statistical parlance.
  14. Is WSR clutching a pen in his right hand as he writes this?
  15. [expletive] yes. Let this glorious disaster roll on into infinity!
  16. Come on, Cubs. Plate this run. I want to see position players pitching...
  17. Might as well pack it in, Giants. Even Grabow held you scoreless.
  18. Thought we might get to see more "Tony Campana Throwing Follies" there.
  19. Koyie Hill and John Grabow: World's Shittiest Battery?
  20. Inning should be over. That was a pretty bad call.
