    Bartlett's contract: $4 million this season, $5.5 million next year and a $5.5 million option for 2013 ($1.5 million buyout). If the Cards are taking on $7+ million in order to have essentially another Ryan Theriot on their roster, they probably aren't giving up Shelby Miller as well (as much as I would love to see it). If the Pads want to eat some of Bartlett's contract, then perhaps.

    Not in approach, but in looking absolutely lost at any breaking ball thrown to them. Geo looks overmatched at the plate, much like Soriano does on any breaking stuff. Total pitches swung at: Soriano: 57.9% Soto: 39.7% Pitches swung at outside the strike zone: Soriano: 48.5% Soto: 21.9% I still don't see the similarity.

    You're new here, right? You might want to brace for impact. Oh, I'm sure. But again, he really does not look right. Very Soriano-esque. Soto has walked in 10.8% of his PAs. Soriano: 4.2% Soto's K%: 23.1%. Soriano: 25.7% Soto's LD%: 23%. Soriano: 17%. Aside from a small spike in Ks this year, Soto and Alfonso are totally different animals at the plate.

    While I don't disagree, what could one expect to receive for Marmol? I'm trying to think of historical precedent for a trade of this sort and all I can come up with are Billy Wagner and Matt Capps. The Phils sent Brandon Duckworth, Taylor Buchholz and Ezequiel Astacio for Wagner. Matt Capps netted the Nats Wilson Ramos. What is Marmol worth? Matt Capps certainly isn't a comparable situation. Yeah, I realize. I'm just kinda spitballing, trying to think of anything remotely comparable.

    If they are intent upon rebuilding, trading Castro would be about the stupidest thing they could do. Analogies to the Ramirez-Beckett deal don't function well; the Sox had won 98 games and a WS the season prior to trading Hanley. They were a dominant team looking for one more piece. Additionally, Ramirez had only 2 ML plate appearances when he was traded at age 21. He was still a prospect. Castro has compiled 830 ML plate appearances of .771 OPS baseball at the same age. He is a very affordable budding all-star SS. Both the idea of trading him and the comparison to the '05 Sox are ridiculous.
