  1. I don't think Baker is the second coming of Sandberg, but Baker has been injured most of the season and is just coming back. Let's give him a few more ABs before saying he's worthless. how many more at-bats do you want to waste on him? we have to win right now. we can't afford to be giving a crappy player 4 at-bats every night just to see if he might end up being slightly less crappy
  2. There's always an opportunity cost. I very much doubt they'll be waiting for a statistically valid sample of results before they start giving him major-league innings. you arent impressed by the 3.00 WHIP he had over his last 7 games?
  3. 1.68 WHIP, 8 BB 3 K over his last month 3.00 WHIP, 8 BB, 1 K over his last 7 games I don't really get where the "he's been pretty good over the past month or so" stuff is coming from. He's been terrible
  4. i's not a bad move since there's no risk...... but bj ryan sucks, you guys.
  5. he's certainly making it easier to see him go. hossa is better than you and is a far lower risk healthwise. get over it.
  6. umm, okay? there's a difference between complaining about players that we have and wanting to go out and get a worse player just because he's not on our team like i said, if hendry got any of these crappy guys you're pining for, you'd turn on them before they even reach 10 PAs, guaranteed.
  7. this one is the best. i love how his head takes up like the entire cockpit
  8. no that's true. michael jackson was both black and then white in the same lifetime. mlk never did that. props mj for bringing 2 races together (in your own body)
  9. what, you're not impressed that cabrera had like a .780 OPS like 17 years ago?
  10. I knew youd be just around the corner with such a comment. Everyone wants to add players, we dont have the money at this time for a big name, and nobody wants to give up a lot of prospects. Therefore, the options are A. other teams crap B. our own crap. If those are the only options, then B is by far the best option. No reason to give up prospects for guys who aren't very likely to be better than the guys we have. When a GM makes a trade, it should be for a clear upgrade - or someone who can be a clear upgrade - at a position. I think thyed be clear upgrades over ours. They're far from game changers, but both would be very nice in the 7 or 8 spot. . i seriously feel like you haven't even bothered to check the stats. seriously, orlando cabrera has a .643 ops this season. .643
  11. why do you want to bring in more terrible players? if we got any of those guys you'd be screaming for hendry to get rid of them after they have one bad game anyways. Kennedy and Cabrera are not horrible players. they're horrible hitters, yea. seriously, adam kennedy? unreal. you know a guy sucks when he's having an unexpectedly good season so far and he still has an ops under .800. before this season he had 4 straight seasons of an OPS of .724 or lower. he has a career ops of .721 and has never had a season with an ops over .795. yeah, he sucks. and cabrera is even worse. he's at .643 this season and was at .705 last season. he's had an OPS of .742 or greater exactly one time in the last 7 seasons, and that was in 2004. the only thing he's good at is defense, and we could just use blanco if we wanted that. they suck. you want to waste prospects on crap just because they play for a different team. like i said, you'd call for hendry's head the second one of them had a bad day. then you'd make a new thread asking for more crappy players.
  12. it should have been greinke and haren. haren has been by far the best pitcher in baseball this season but he seemingly gets very little credit. his stats- 130 IP 89 hits 16 bb 129 k .81 WHIP 2.01 era that's ridiculous
  13. Get your head out of the spreadsheets Joe. Just out of curiosity what were those "other" stats that were so impressive? Was one of them the "he plays for my team" stat? Because I think you have a hard time justifying the Pena selection other than with one of the oldest counting stats around, HR's. If we are going by OPS then Branyan, Dye, and Cabrera are all ahead of him and and doing better in almost all areas excepts HR's. Better for him just to admit it was a homer pick and not act like he made some great statistical anaylsis. it was a homer pick, but it was still funny to see that cardinal homer amsinger finally have somebody tell him that batting average isnt that important
  14. i'm not all that familiar with how it's determined what type of free agent status you're given, so can somebody tell me what harden is looking like for this offseason? between his injury history and his rough season, is type A out of the question?
  15. haha greg amsinger on MLBN just questioned joe maddon on picking pena because of his batting average and maddon basically punked him out saying you can't just a player by his batting average and told him pena's OPS and other stats.
  16. there were at least 2 different occasions during tonight's game where he was clearly flexing/grabbing his shoulder with a grimace on his face after a swing. he was definitely feeling it.
  17. the shumacker one is hideous
  18. like who? the only clear cut one that i can think of is vazquez. you could make arguments for gallardo (he's had 2 really bad starts in a row now so his numbers are pretty even to duke's, despite having way more strike outs), jurjjens (1.27 whip to duke's 1.21 and a not so pretty k/bb), wainwright (1.30 WHIP to duke's 1.21) and pineiro (as flukey as it may be, he's somehow been very productive so far. he has a 1.11 WHIP) like i said, the only clear cut guy i'd put over duke that i can think of would be vazquez. the rest are pretty even.
  19. duke is having a really good season you guys. i'd have taken vazquez over him, but picking duke isn't that ridiculous.
  20. hopes: that they won't suck expectations: that they'll suck
  21. why do you want to bring in more terrible players? if we got any of those guys you'd be screaming for hendry to get rid of them after they have one bad game anyways.
  22. The June numbers look a lot better, but he still walked 6 and struck out only 3. I want to see that ratio improve. I wouldn't be against signing him and giving him a chance, though. Yeah, the WHIP is still too high, but I wouldn't worry too much. He's brought it down significantly 3 months in a row... so I would have confidence that it'll be lower this/next month. it's not hard to improve when you're that bad.
  23. he was letting go and taking huge rips tonight. the problem is it looks like it was hurting him i mean it was obvious they rushed him back. every time the cubs lost a game it seemed like his return date would be moved up a day. this feels a lot like the derrek lee injury in 06. he rushed back, sucked for a while, and then ended up back on the DL. i've be shocked if ramirez doesn't hit the dl again eventually
  24. So just to confirm, this was your opinion when we originally signed him and won back to back division titles right? Probably, yeah. Even when he was going good it was an awful contract and one most of us would have chosen to unload if possible. Btw, we would have easily won the second division title without him.
