  1. Why isn't he getting more attention? He's having an unbelievable season and has been by far the best pitcher in baseball this year. 138 IP 93 H 18 BB 137 K 12 HR 1.96 ERA .80 WHIP A few more K's and he'd be in Pedro-in-his-prime territory. Carrying a .80 WHIP this late into the season is ridiculous. Thank god for Mark Mulder.
  2. anybody notice that grienke hasn't been that good since the end of may? he had a 1.32 WHIP is june and a 1.63 WHIP so far in july. k/bb still looks good, he's just been giving up a ton of hits. not saying it means much... he was due for some regression. i just looked at his numbers for the first time in a while and was surprised to see how poorly he's been pitching lately, despite maintaining the low era
  3. Maybe it wasn't the "worst" move, but the most inexplicable. I don't see even a shred of logic in that. When Dusty did stupid things, at least I understood the way his head was working and why he was doing them. They were dumb and wrong, but I understood what he thought he was doing. This was a small moment so I can't say it's the worst move or anything like that, but sending Bradley right there is just beyond comprehension.
  4. wasnt it that tanzer joker that screwed harrington over?
  5. putting on the hit and run with bradley at first and soriano at the plate might be the dumbest thing i've ever seen a manager do in a cubs uniform, and that's saying a lot.
  6. Harrington. It was a no brainer to sign the contract with the $3 million bonus. its a cliche, but he is literally working at Wal Mart now. I thought it was Costco http://graneyandthepig.wordpress.com/2009/04/23/first-round-bust-now-changing-tires-at-costco/
  7. I don't buy Coors was the reason alone for his numbers to be that good. Plus Coors isn't THAT much of a better hitters park then Wrigley in the hot summer. It's been a bad offseason as of right now, but not a horrible one. wow
  8. from the interviews i've read he kind of seems like a d-bag. oh well
  9. What's the alternative? Miles? Blanco? Scales? Fontenot against a LHP? There's not much lost by seeing if Baker can get some hits against LHP. yes, i'd take blanco or scales over baker right now. That's not an indefensible position, but can you really blame people who want to give Baker a shot? i don't know. he's going to have to start showing something really soon because he has looked atrocious.
  10. maybe it has something to do with the fact that he had a .901 OPS at coors last year and .646 OPS away from it. btw, are you still yelling at people who criticize Hendry's offseason moves and telling them to "give him the benefit of the doubt"?
  11. I don't think Baker is the second coming of Sandberg, but Baker has been injured most of the season and is just coming back. Let's give him a few more ABs before saying he's worthless. how many more at-bats do you want to waste on him? we have to win right now. we can't afford to be giving a crappy player 4 at-bats every night just to see if he might end up being slightly less crappy What's the alternative? 13. There's always an opportunity cost. I very much doubt they'll be waiting for a statistically valid sample of results before they start giving him major-league innings. you arent impressed by the 3.00 WHIP he had over his last 7 games?
  14. 1.68 WHIP, 8 BB 3 K over his last month 3.00 WHIP, 8 BB, 1 K over his last 7 games I don't really get where the "he's been pretty good over the past month or so" stuff is coming from. He's been terrible
  15. i's not a bad move since there's no risk...... but bj ryan sucks, you guys.
  16. he's certainly making it easier to see him go. hossa is better than you and is a far lower risk healthwise. get over it.
  17. umm, okay? there's a difference between complaining about players that we have and wanting to go out and get a worse player just because he's not on our team like i said, if hendry got any of these crappy guys you're pining for, you'd turn on them before they even reach 10 PAs, guaranteed.
  18. this one is the best. i love how his head takes up like the entire cockpit
  19. no that's true. michael jackson was both black and then white in the same lifetime. mlk never did that. props mj for bringing 2 races together (in your own body)
  20. what, you're not impressed that cabrera had like a .780 OPS like 17 years ago?
  21. I knew youd be just around the corner with such a comment. Everyone wants to add players, we dont have the money at this time for a big name, and nobody wants to give up a lot of prospects. Therefore, the options are A. other teams crap B. our own crap. If those are the only options, then B is by far the best option. No reason to give up prospects for guys who aren't very likely to be better than the guys we have. When a GM makes a trade, it should be for a clear upgrade - or someone who can be a clear upgrade - at a position. I think thyed be clear upgrades over ours. They're far from game changers, but both would be very nice in the 7 or 8 spot. . i seriously feel like you haven't even bothered to check the stats. seriously, orlando cabrera has a .643 ops this season. .643
  22. why do you want to bring in more terrible players? if we got any of those guys you'd be screaming for hendry to get rid of them after they have one bad game anyways. Kennedy and Cabrera are not horrible players. they're horrible hitters, yea. seriously, adam kennedy? unreal. you know a guy sucks when he's having an unexpectedly good season so far and he still has an ops under .800. before this season he had 4 straight seasons of an OPS of .724 or lower. he has a career ops of .721 and has never had a season with an ops over .795. yeah, he sucks. and cabrera is even worse. he's at .643 this season and was at .705 last season. he's had an OPS of .742 or greater exactly one time in the last 7 seasons, and that was in 2004. the only thing he's good at is defense, and we could just use blanco if we wanted that. they suck. you want to waste prospects on crap just because they play for a different team. like i said, you'd call for hendry's head the second one of them had a bad day. then you'd make a new thread asking for more crappy players.
