  1. they'd have halladay for next year as well, even without an extension. if all they had to give up was that, then hell yea it would be worth it.
  2. He was just on MLB.com talking about it. The Mets are insane. And if that's all it takes to get Halladay (Like I speculated earlier), then damn near every team that can take on his salary is in contention to get him. no, i know. i saw it. i'm just not sure if i trust that source yet. that seems like an absolute steal
  3. backtobanks is pretty good
  4. Those weren't offers, those were insults. Sanchez's $10 million for two years, when his certain to vest option for next year alone is $8 million. I'd like to hear how the convo with Sanhez and his agent went. "Guess what? The Pirates are offering you an extension" "An extension with the Pirates? Not interested" "But it's for TEN MILLION DOLLARS"
  5. See, that's where you're mistaken. You're making it out to sound like we all love Soriano and that's why we're criticizing your statements. It's not that at all. It's because your statements are mostly inaccurate. Most of the people criticizing your statements about Soriano are the same people who hate his contract, think he's a highly overrated, and would jump at the opportunity to ship him off if it meant getting rid of the albatross contract. Saying "he sucks" is just an invitation to get bashed. Soriano has sucked this year, but when he's putting up the typical numbers he has put up over the last several years, he certainly does not suck. An .880-.900 is not sucking, period. And I don't think anybody is saying he's a great "leadoff hitter" (if we're pretending it's a position, which it's not). They're simply saying it doesn't matter that much. I'd rather have an OBP guy there, but it really does not make a big difference.
  6. Oh come on. You say it as if I didn't know that. I'm just saying, there's a reason why the Yanks didn't hang onto him. Yeah, his name is Alex Rodriguez How many people are gonna say that? Seriously? I'm well aware. When the Cubs first signed Soriano, honestly, I was really excited. I liked his numbers, and I felt that we needed a big-name bat. We hadn't really had anyone that was a household name since Sosa, and I thought it would be a good thing for us as a franchise. However, after watching the guy play every single day, I've changed my mind entirely (in case you couldn't tell  ). I'd also like to add that I'm not one of the ones that jumped on the bandwagon during his recent slump. I've been hating on him since the beginning of 08. I could list off all the reasons, but you've heard most of them before from everyone else who bitches about him here on the forum. I certainly don't mind his hot streaks, though, where he decides to string together several multi-homer games per week. That is, of course, as long as he's hitting in the middle of the order so there are actually people on base 8-) That's another issue that has been thoroughly beaten to death, though. I just don't understand why you're acting like everybody here loves Soriano. If you polled this board with the question "would you dump Soriano if all you got in return was getting rid of his contract", the vast majority of the posters here would say yes. We're well aware of all his flaws and we all know how awful his contract is. We understand the situation. And if you didn't want to hear the real answer (of why the yankees got rid of Soriano) then you shouldn't have implied something else.
  7. Because hes on a bad, small market team. Look as Ray Halladay. Easilt one of the top 3 pitchers in the game, but the only reason he gets any fn fair is because of trade talks. Being on a bad small market team didn't stop Zack Greinke from being the most talked about pitcher in the first half and landing on the cover of SI. And Roy Halladay has always gotten plenty of attention.
  8. That's probably b/c they didn't know Fuld was available. We have enough CFs in the minors who can't hit, thank you very much. I didn't know that you were the Pirates' GM, thanks for that Because you must be a GM to know that they wouldn't trade Sanchez for scraps
  9. Oh come on. You say it as if I didn't know that. I'm just saying, there's a reason why the Yanks didn't hang onto him. Yeah, his name is Alex Rodriguez
  10. Why isn't he getting more attention? He's having an unbelievable season and has been by far the best pitcher in baseball this year. 138 IP 93 H 18 BB 137 K 12 HR 1.96 ERA .80 WHIP A few more K's and he'd be in Pedro-in-his-prime territory. Carrying a .80 WHIP this late into the season is ridiculous. Thank god for Mark Mulder.
  11. anybody notice that grienke hasn't been that good since the end of may? he had a 1.32 WHIP is june and a 1.63 WHIP so far in july. k/bb still looks good, he's just been giving up a ton of hits. not saying it means much... he was due for some regression. i just looked at his numbers for the first time in a while and was surprised to see how poorly he's been pitching lately, despite maintaining the low era
  12. Maybe it wasn't the "worst" move, but the most inexplicable. I don't see even a shred of logic in that. When Dusty did stupid things, at least I understood the way his head was working and why he was doing them. They were dumb and wrong, but I understood what he thought he was doing. This was a small moment so I can't say it's the worst move or anything like that, but sending Bradley right there is just beyond comprehension.
  13. wasnt it that tanzer joker that screwed harrington over?
  14. putting on the hit and run with bradley at first and soriano at the plate might be the dumbest thing i've ever seen a manager do in a cubs uniform, and that's saying a lot.
  15. Harrington. It was a no brainer to sign the contract with the $3 million bonus. its a cliche, but he is literally working at Wal Mart now. I thought it was Costco http://graneyandthepig.wordpress.com/2009/04/23/first-round-bust-now-changing-tires-at-costco/
  16. I don't buy Coors was the reason alone for his numbers to be that good. Plus Coors isn't THAT much of a better hitters park then Wrigley in the hot summer. It's been a bad offseason as of right now, but not a horrible one. wow
  17. from the interviews i've read he kind of seems like a d-bag. oh well
  18. What's the alternative? Miles? Blanco? Scales? Fontenot against a LHP? There's not much lost by seeing if Baker can get some hits against LHP. yes, i'd take blanco or scales over baker right now. That's not an indefensible position, but can you really blame people who want to give Baker a shot? i don't know. he's going to have to start showing something really soon because he has looked atrocious.
  19. maybe it has something to do with the fact that he had a .901 OPS at coors last year and .646 OPS away from it. btw, are you still yelling at people who criticize Hendry's offseason moves and telling them to "give him the benefit of the doubt"?
  20. I don't think Baker is the second coming of Sandberg, but Baker has been injured most of the season and is just coming back. Let's give him a few more ABs before saying he's worthless. how many more at-bats do you want to waste on him? we have to win right now. we can't afford to be giving a crappy player 4 at-bats every night just to see if he might end up being slightly less crappy What's the alternative? Miles? Blanco? Scales? Fontenot against a LHP? There's not much lost by seeing if Baker can get some hits against LHP. yes, i'd take blanco or scales over baker right now.
